Debt Collector
So, I get a message from this number and they had my name and gave me a file number. I called back from another number (yay, internet) and spoke with a pleasant young man who gave me a bit of information on what the call was regarding (old debt). He told me paperwork was being prepared to be filed in my local county court and gave me an amount he said would be sought in regards to a suit and asked if I was in a position to pay. I told him I was not. He said that there would be a filing within the next few days. I asked for some sort of verification of what he was saying, and he told me some sort of notice of filing would be sent to me along with a notice to appear.
Here's the interesting part: At no time did he verify who I was (he rattled off the last four of my social and asked me if that sounded familiar, which I told him it was. At no time did he ask to verify my name, my phone number, my address, nothing. He started rattling off highly personal information that only the person involved should be hearing. And all I gave him was the file number left on my voice mail. I get the feeling scare tactics were involved here, but I didn't bite. I may call back tomorrow and see if the story repeats itself.

Here is my situation (long but need to be put out there...sorry)
My husband got a call on Sept 17 from a lady name Holly Clark looking for me. I get on the phone with this lady saying that she is a legal courier and my file was put on her desk to deliver some certified legal documents to my home on Sept 19. I couldn't understand what she was saying at first so I provided her my cell (mistake) to call me another time. Right after we got off the phone, she calls my cell left a message saying again that she has some documents to deliver to my home. She gave me a number and reference number to call if I wanted to take care of it. So I call this number the next day 18. The company is called DELAWARE HOLDINGS GROUP. The number I called was 877 957 8954. I have been scammed before so I know to do my research first before doing anything else. I couldn't find much on this company but they do have a website that look like it took 5 minutes. No address provided on website and they do have a different number there as well 6022 is last digits. Basically they are collecting an old debt supposedly a loan I took out with Advance America back in 2007. I spoke to a Michael Statton at first. It should've clicked to me when he told me he had multiple address for me that how is your courier going to serve me with papers and you don't have my right address? But it didn't click at first. Made a mistake on verifying info with him so please DO NOT VERIFY ANYTHING. They tell me that they have been contacting me regarding this matter (never got a call from them but i see unknown numbers on my caller id-screened unknown calls but never left a message). He tells me that I owe this debt and they are suing me because it hasn't been taking care of since 2007. Now, Rosenthal Stein and Associates tried to collect this debt from me back in June. I sent them a validation letter and never got a respond.I asked this guy after we talked about this and that this that if he would pay anyone, doesn't matter what it is or how much it is (400 for me) would he pay this person if you know for a fact that someone else is collecting it from you at the same time or if you are not sure about the debt? He got quiet. I started to let it go because I cant even find this company anywhere. Yellow page, Google, Mapquest anywhere! If you are legit, why are you not listed? I found them in BBB F- so that was it for my research. By the end of the day, Holly calls me again with the same message that she still has the account and nothing has changed. So I call Michael back and tell him hey we already talked and you said I can research it more. He said yah that was at 9 am it is now 4 pm it shouldn't take you but 1 hour. REALLY? then that just put me to the edge. I am going through postpartum (new baby) so when I get nervous, it is 10x worse. So it really wasn't easy for me to just let it go. After hours and hours of stress and research, this morning 19th (day of server) I call my State Attorney General Office. They tell me off the bat that they are scams. 1. Courier will not call you to tell you they have legal documents for you or you are being sued and give you a company name to call to handle it. 2. It is past Statute of Limitation 3. They broke the law by calling my spouse. 4. They broke the law for saying they are coming to my house. sooo on and on and on. Talking to them made everything so much better so please know your rights and call your state attorney to get more info. They just emailed me a complaint form that I am filling out. This company is not legit. Do not fall for it. State Attorney Office told me that if someone does come by do not open the door, or get their id (courier is suppose to have id's). Most scammers will not provide anything. Call the police and let them know you are calling the police to verify their courier id (100% they will leave or not even show up).  OH and btw this debt is not my credit at all by anyone so no one can sue if it is not reported on credit.

please do not fall for this people. if you have time to fb, tweeter, instagram and what not read up on your rights.

Calls me several times a day. When I pick up, there's a machine asking if I am someone, but it's not my name.  Tells me if that's not me, to hang up.  Then explains that there is a claim against this person who's not me.
