I received a similar letter with this phone number. I called the number. They only asked for the reference number. They said they would cancel the card! I am not sure what that means, but they did not try to get any information from me.

I also received a letter with the number 1 877 969 7566. The person who wrote the letter claimed that an account had been  opened under my name (not ture I checked). This is just so I would call and give them my social security number, leading me to believe they already had it.  The Retail company on the letter has nothing to do with this. So the fake letter can have Macys, TJmax, or whatever at the top. Alway research the company phone number first, INSTEAD of calling the number on the letter. Anyone can get you name and address. It's your soclai that is really needed to scam you.

Received a letter from Paypal, GE Capital Retail Bank, stating I had opened an account. Checked my credit report, it verified an account had been open three days ago with a $241 balance. I called (877) 969-7566. They canceled the account, eliminated the balanced and contacted the 3 credit agencies. The only information they asked for was the information they already had in the address header on the letter they sent me. In addition to that I initiated a fraud alert through Equifax.

Called 877.969.7566 regarding the letter I received from GE Capital Retail Bank regarding two accounts, one from Wal Mart and the other from Dillards.  The envelope and letter appeared generic and I ignored it at first, but I found both accounts on my credit report and decided to call.  

The representative had a heavy Spanish accent and said she would need my phone number to help me get a identity theft claim started.  As she was searching her "database" to see if the thief created the account online or in person I Googled the phone number and found this forum!  I hung up immediately while she was speaking mid sentence!

I just received a letter from PayPal Extras Master Card saying that I had an acct opened in my name.  It took me 4 people and 15 minutes to find someone to cancel it.  I refused to give any info except verifying my address.  I never applied for anything.

I alson received the same letter.  Called,  this person Eddie who answered said he was from the Fire Department reponsible for Lost and stolen.  Never said he was from the Credit services.  Had our information.

Received a letter claiming to be Walmart, GE Capital Retail Bank, Creditor claiming that an account has been opened in my name and to call 877 969 7566 to respond if this is false. Looks like a phishing attempt. Watch out.

I had the same letter except it was for Lowe's.  I checked online and bam!  Scam!!

Received a letter from GE Money Bank claiming that someone opened CHEVRON Visa under my name. This is phishing indian company trying to get different info for verification purposes. Called 3 times, same guy always answers the phone. Beware!

Also got a letter from JC Penny GE Money Bank saying that an account has been opened up in my name. Haven't had a chance to call the listed number, but I will Monday. thanks for the heads up

Have the same letter as Sarah. I think it is a hoax.

Sarah, did you call the number and did they ask you for a full social security number for verification? If they did, then they tried to phish you.
