Debt Collector
I received a call from this number today, much a many of you have. I was given the name of a friends husband, who I havent really had much contact with in years.  I called my friend and she didnt know what it was for either, so I called back.  I spoke to a lovely woman named Jill. All I had to do was to advise that while I did know so and so, I hadnt spoken to them in years, and would not have any updated contact. She said right away that she would remove me, but  I might received one more call or so, depending on when thier system updated.  All it took was me being polite.  Ididnt have to lie, as I dont have updated contact information for the husband. Instead of getting all upset people, just answer the call and tell them that you are not longer in contact with that person and that you would not be able to provide them with any information.

Got a call from 705-876-5330, let it go to VM.  They identified themselves as GM Financial and stated that they were calling in reference to a cousin of mine.  They used his full name, which alarmed me, then gave me this callback number of 877-994-9119, which is a number for Americredit.  Before I did any researching on these numbers, I called my cousin who informed me that he had used GM Financial to buy a car in 2004, but that it's been paid off for years.  He's also been getting strange calls from someone at "GM Financial" as well.  We have no idea why a debt collector would be calling 10 years later on a car that's been paid off for a long time.
However they got my number or whatever they want, I'm not calling them back.

They have been harassing me for the location of a repo on a friends truck they have called my family as well as my work almost causing myself pluse family members there jobs I have told them to stop calling and yet they haven't! I have no connection to this debt as I'm not even leasted as a person on this debt I have never even dealt with this company! I have informed the callers that if these calls to me my family don't end I will take this to court! I do understand they want there truck back but as I'm not responceable for this persons actions and I don't know where this truck is! This form of threating me and harassing me and my family will not be tolerated and needs to end! As for there customer service everyone should be removed and replaced they have violated my rights as a us citizen by invading my familys privicy and involving me in this! And since I'm not even listed on anything dealing with this mater as I'm neither a co signer or refrance!

Received a vociemail from this number on my cell phone.  Some woman babbled on about me being a reference contact for one of my relatives.  She left a number for me to reference when I called her back.  Telemarketer or bill collector, not sure which, but in any event I will not be calling her back.

I offered them money on the spot, unless I gave them MORE references they would not accept the payment. They do not work with you, if you pay an up front fee they will put some payments at the back end of the loan.

I think they are a great company I have had no issues with them until today when they called all my references.  They didn't even give me time to call them before they started calling every one. Other wise they are more than willing to work with you if you have issues and can't pay right away which is what has happened to me.

Personally I think you shouldn't judge until you've walked a mile in someone else's shoes.  We had a car through AmeriCredit.  We lived in Houston during Hurricane Ike.  My husband's job had to close down for 2 months because of flooding and lack of work; so he was without a paycheck for 2 months.  Lucky for us, we had just moved down there and were staying with family.  All of our stuff was in storage which also flooded.  We called them to try to work something out; because we were in a state of emergency I thought they would work with us, and they didn't.  With not having a paycheck for 2 months, there were other things that took first priority like food and medical (I have 2 special needs boys).  So we let the car go.
I am so happy that you are in such a great place that you can go 2 months without a paycheck and still be able to pay all of your bills.  That is incredible; but not all of us are that lucky.

There are debt collection laws.  Each state has their own (although they are all pretty similiar).  Once you inform them you are not allowed to receive calls at work, they have to stop calling you there.  If they don't; file a complaint with your state's attorney general's office.  They recently called my husband at 9:30 in the morning, he said he would call AmeriCredit directly because he doesn't give any info over the phone when he is called (too many scams) and he would get their contact info and call them back.  They called us back at 11, 2 and 4 that same day.  I filed a complaint with the attorney general.  They can be fined for harrassment, so the more people that file complaints the better.
Keep a notebook of when they call, who you talk to, etc.  Also, if someone calls you, you do NOT have to give them your social, adddress, birthdate, etc.  I tell anyone who calls that I don't verify any information over the phone and that they should send a letter to the address they have on file, and I don't verify it.  If it is legit, they will send it and you can go from there.

A female using the name Zoey called, from (705) 876-5326, asking for some couple, saying that she wanted a call back regarding a reference number blah blah blah and to return her call at (877)994-9119. There should be something that can be done when people constantly call your cell phone harrassing folks. It's sickening!

Well I congratulate you for being one of the lucky americans who r doing good. You must be one of the ones the speaker of the house talks about but there r a lot of americans that are not so lucky. My Problem is I have nothing to do with them nor do I know the person they are calling about so I do not know how they got my cell number to begin with. Hope you luck keeps up so you can pay your bills on time.

I beieve a "legal" debt must be paid. This my experience with Americredit. By the way I am a professional with a job. Several years my wife passed away. I believe it or not,had 4 sins in college at the same time. Things were fine financially until medical bills etc. caught up with me. I will also tell you that i certainly did not take care of things and through my own fault got behind with things. My vehicle was about to cost me a lot of money so I went car shopping. Irinically my credit was not that bad but the dealer convinced me to go with Americrdit. Of course you probably know the rest of the story. I ended up paying to much for the car,had problems with the car and Americredit is charging me a fortune plus any other possible fee they can when making payments. Yes they do call references, work etc. day and night. As I have stated in the beginning, I believe a debt should be paid. Unfortunately, I now owe several thousand dollars to Americredit for a car that is worth probably half of what I owe Americredit. What do I do?????

I received a call from this number today.  They asked for my mother who is an 83 year old heart patient..She wasn't in so they left me a number and file number for them to call.  I asked if this was about debt collection and the lady said.. no  nothing like that.  She stated my sister and her husband used my mother as a reference.  I told the lady my mother isn't interested in anything like that and the lady told me she had to hear that from my mother. I advised we have received many calls like this referencing my sister and her husband regarding debt collection and I advised if they call back I would contact the Federal Trade Commission...She said she wasn't doing anything wrong and hung up on me.  (I wasn't yelling, I was in my calm voice).  I tried calling back and all I got were automatic messages asking me to put my loan number in.  No human answered..By the way I work in debt collection for a living and if I get a response back like I gave her I wouldn't even bother calling back.
