Creative Solutions called me. It is a total scam; the operating system that they said what giving them an alert is not a system I use. I told the gal to pound sand.

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected-corrupted scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

Called several times and finally I answered this call. It was a person who said he was from India who was representing Creative Solutions On Line and wanted to help me with a virus problem that was on my PC. Rather than work with him to "fix" my PC (which didn't have any probelms and is protected by McAfee total Protection, I asked him enough questions to verify if his call was fradulent. I asked his name and he said it was John. I asked if he had a last name and he said it was Smith. I asked if he had an ID number to reference the call and he said no. I told him I wanted to call Creative Solutions On Line in Clearwater Florida to verify that this was a legitimate call but he said there was no need to do that since he had just told me it was. He spoke very broken english and seemed to be more interested in getting me to turn my PC on to "troubleshoot the problems immediately before damage occurs".
I am not certain if this was a bogus call but I told the person I needed to follow up so I asked for his telephone number to call him back and he said it was (405) 776-4412 but the caller ID on my telephone showed (866) 325-8963. He said he "really wanted to help me first but I told him that our conversation had been recorded and would be sent to the local law enforcement authorities for a potential fraud alert . I hope this was not just some underpaid telemarketer with poor english language skills that I finally had to disconnect. So many scams out there.......

I don't know much about computers but got the same call. I too asked simple question only making him mad. I told him I have a protection plan and would take it to my IT guy and he got really mad the only way I got rid of him was to tell him my Husband uses the computer for work and works for the Gov. and that he would have to take it in for security reasons just heard a click. looked the sites he wanted me to go to and yes a scam.

Same deal as above......lady with a limited command of the English language, telling me (an IT professional) that my computer was causing problems on their server and I needed to go to a website to get it fixed.......after saying I wasn't in front of my PC and asking for a phone number to call her back, the line went dead.....go figure.
Total scam.

Indian accent, male caller - claims he was from some computer department and my PC was reporting an error with the licensing, causing internet connection problems. He never go to tell me how to fix this problem, but for 5 mins, I asked him all kinds of questions about his claim. Stupid to call an IT worker claiming some PC error.
With each question, his voice got louder and more aggitated. Best part was when I asked him about the MAC address for the machine reporting the problem. 'You have a mac' he asked, I answer 'No, you told me I had a PC.'. He could not explain to me how he knew my machine was having this error or which machine.
Slightly entertaining, especially when I asked to talk to Level 2 support since they probably know what a MAC address is ;)
He eventually hung up on me.
Total scam I am sure.

Indian guy on the other end, saying he is from the "Computer Maintenance Department". Tried to get me to use a web based connection software so he could "fix" my computer.

suspicious call saying i had a computer virus

This seems to be a new scam. I answer the phone and a woman with a Jamaican accent starts telling me that she is calling to inform me that my computer is infected with malware that is causing it to attack other computers and that my personal information has been stolen.
Unfortunately for her, I happen to be a computer technician and security specialist and as soon as I mentioned that to her, the line went dead. Thinking back on it, I should have dragged the call on a little longer to see what the scan was and where it would lead. Oh well.
So be careful and if you receive such a call, it's totally bogus and be sure not to give any personal or other information to them.
