A co-worker of mine and myself experience this the same day yesterday.  I got a call from a Raymond Scott @ 855-277-1567 stating I took out a  payday loan in the amount of $350 and the interest accrued at $3000.  They said that I needed to make payment immediately to avoid the legal proceedings and garnishing wages from my check.  I asked who I supposedly owed money to and they gave me the name of the company I never heard of.  I told them I took out a loan about 3 years ago and it was paid off and I have proof.  They told me I was a liar and that I need to pay.  I laughed and told them you won't be getting anything out of me, so take me to court.  I asked what company he was from and where.  They told me Fort Myers Florida and they were the Bureau of criminal investigation.  I just laughed.  I told him it so funny how all of you deep, thick accent foreigner have American names.  He just went off.  I will be reporting them.

I received 5 calls back to back from a 781 area code from a Dean Smith begging me to take out a loan. After I said I would report him and hung up an hour later my husband started receiving calls back to back with threats. The man did not give jim a name and said he was with the federal legislation department and that I will be black listed. He even called my job and left the number 607-795-7547 to call back and this is the same number that called my husband. It is several different numbers and the exact same voice everytime.

I kinda think it was a scam when i argue w/the guy dat I want his company's name and his so I can call my lawyers to get back to them. He kept insisting that he have proofs that I got money of them and that they file a legal case on me. Anywayz, this guy hung up on me when i told him that i m goin to call the FBI myself and ask abt my case. These b*****ds call my phone nonstop day and nite. Da guy threanted me that they goin to show up at my work place tomorrow to arrest me. Well if anyone reading this and for those who got affected please let's work together to find these b*****ds. I hope the FBI or someone will help. Does anyone can help me to stop these calls lol. Thanx and good luck to everyone who got affected. This is a follow up to my post from last night.  I got another call this morning from these people.  I answered and was told the same thing that a complaint has been filled against me and that it was very serious.  This time however the man didn't tell me to call someone back.  He said he would transfer me to who I needed to talk to about this. Even though I knew it was a scam I agreed. The funny part is that I was never transferred to anyone.  The man hit 3 keys on his phone pad and then said "Hello Ms." as if he was a different person but it was completely obvious it was the same person.  He then said there were 3 allegations on the complaint and he started to tell me what they were but the phone connection was very bad (probably because the call was coming from a foreign country), he was speaking very fast and his accent was very thick so I couldn't completely understand him.  I heard something about a payday loan and something to the effect that I violated federal loan laws.  I then told the man that I have never had a payday loan before ever and asked if he would please send me the legal documents he had regarding this.  He told me he would have me subpoenaed on Monday and then hung up on me.  So I called him right back and he answered the phone by saying "What".  I told him I wasn't finished speaking to him when he hung up on me.  I then told him I did some research and found out that nothing he has said to me is true and that I am aware that this entire thing is a big scam.  He said nothing and hung up on me again.  So I called back again and this time the call rang once or twice then went to voice mail.  I waited a few minutes and tried again and same thing it was sent to voice mail.  This time I left a message and said that I will be reporting this to the proper authorities and that he or anyone else working with him was never to call me again.  I then went to the BBB website and the FBI website and filed the proper reports with both agencies.  Oh and I also went to my bank to make sure no suspicious activity had taken place in the last few days and to report this to them also.  My bank put a report on my account so that these people will not be able to take any money from my account and if they try, a red flag will be raised and the bank will immediately contact the authorities.

I just got a call like this.  The caller id showed the # as 607-795-7547.  The man asked for me by name and said he was calling from the Federal Legislation Department and that a complaint has been filed against me under my name and social security number and that it is very serious.  He asked if I knew anything about this very serious complaint.  I answered no.  He then said that I needed to call the senior attorney immediately as soon as I hang up the phone with him and this person will be able to give me all the information I need about the complaint against me.  He gave me a phone number and extension to call and again said that this is very serious.  The whole thing sounded very strange to me.  I asked him if this was so serious, why didn't the senior attorney just call me.  He said because the senior attorneys never make calls because they are too busy and it is his job to contact me and tell me to call the senior attorney.  Even though I knew this call had to be a mistake, it scared me because I couldn't for the life of me think of why some kind of serious complaint was filed against me and what was this man talking about.  So I immediately called the number and a woman answered and I asked for the extension I was given.  I was put on hold and waited on hold for quite a while but no one ever picked up so I hung up.  I immediately tried calling back several times and kept getting a women's voicemail saying she was away from her desk and to leave a message.  In the meantime, I googled "Federal Legislation Department" and found this site and others dealing with payday loan fraud information.  As soon as I saw the search results and started reading all the posts on this site, I realized why I got this call.  Yesterday I was online and looked up payday loans.  I just wanted to get some information on these loans and see if it would be an option for me if things got too tight (just got divorced and am struggling a little for money).  I picked one of the companies and filled out a little information but instead of it telling me if I would be approved, it sent me to a totally different site that just listed a bunch of different payday loan companies which all wanted me to fill out the same information that I just did.  So I said forget it and closed out my web browser. And that was the end of it.  I never signed anything or borrowed any money from anyone.  Then, starting about an hour after I looked up the loan information, my phone started ringing off the hook (at least 50 calls since yesterday afternoon) from people asking me if I want a payday loan.  And I have received over 100 e-mails from various payday loan companies.  But all the calls so far just asked me if I wanted a payday loan and when I told them no I don't want one, they simply hang up.  That was until the one I just got from the "Federal Legislation Department".  This guy didn't mention anything about a payday loan or anything and told me he didn't have any information at all on what this "complaint" was even about and just kept telling me I needed to call this other person so I didn't know at the time it had anything to do with my payday loan inquiry yesterday. And I didn't realize it until I hung up but the phone number the man told me to call is the exact same number that he was calling me from that came up on my caller id.  Anyway, thank you to everyone who has posted on this site because after reading your testimonies I am relieved knowing this is a scam and that there is no "serious complaint" filled against me.  Although I'm not sure if I should still try to call this "senior attorney" person just to see what he says and to tell him I know it is a scam.  I think I'll wait to see if they call me back tomorrow.  I'll update my post if anything else happens with this.  Hopefully my post will help someone else who might receive one of these calls know it's a scam and maybe they won't be frightened like I was when I first got the call.

One of the people on here suggested continuously calling them back and harrassing them.   I dont work at the same place I did when I took out my loan so they dont know where I work...whenever they call I answer but put the phone away and just let them talk until they hang up.   I will call back numerous times and just not say anything.   At the very least I am tying up one of their phone lines so they cant harrass anyone else.

Last week i received a call from another number and the person told me that i had defaulted on a payday loan, from a company which I had never gotten a loan thru and they pretty much told me the same thing.  The person mtold me I owed about $400.  I checked the number online and there were several reports about the same thing.  at the end of last week, the same person called from this number. The Better Business Bureau has a Fraud Alert out about this stuff.  Be very careful and do not give them any personal info.  Also you can tell them you won't do anything until you get written info about what you are being sued for.

Get call after call after call from this number.  Finally leaves a message after the 5th or 6th call.  Can barely understand the man - says his name is Adam from the Federal Legislature Dept and to call back at (888) 201-6971.  Says if I don't call back, he will contact my employer and then good luck finding a new job!  I have contacted my state's Attorney General's Office and am now reporting them to the local Police department for making threats.  I attempted to call the # back and got a recording that says "Fraud" so I hung up.  If this is a legitimate bill collector how would you know when the people can't speak English??  I'm guessing they can't understand it either.  Funny thing on the message he left, you could hear another man in the background screaming at what appears to be another person on a different phone saying "You don't have to be abuse to me!" - What??  Perhaps if they could speak our language, we would know what they are calling for??

They are at it again.  I noticed that all of the dates above are from 2009 well this is May of 2011 and they are calling.  My guy was supposed to be named Roland McGahee.  Caller I.D. showed Skypes from 850-366-8941.  I did call back and got a mailing address of 1408 Belview Crt, Fort Myers, FL 33917.  I have not Googled that yet but I will.  Will try a certified letter, don't know if that will have any effect but it is worth a shot.  A thanks to all of the people who have responded to this scam.

OMG
Once I read all these posts, I called these guys back and told them I thought it was a scam and I had already reported him.
He laughed and I said I realized our laws mean nothing to them because they are in another country and I told them I reported them to the FBI.  They said they could connect me straight to the FBI and I said "go ahead"  OMG  he pressed three buttons...poop, peep, pip....and I said, "hello?"  The same guy with SAME INDIAN accent (a bit deeper though) came on and said, "this is 'officer' Roger"
didn't even give me a last name!  I laughed in their face and said, "are u f-ing serious, you're the same guy!" LMAO....he said, "if you don't believe we are real, come to the court."   and then he HUNG UP!
you guys need to pass this around and have fun with these A-holes!

Chris!

That is funny.....you say call you and give your our information and stuff....well, I called you all
you all want me to pay $700 up front and then you will send me documentation (after the fact)
of where I defaulted on something I never owed.

Federal Collection laws state we as consumers have the right to request copies of any debts
you are trying to collect.  Your refusal lets us ALL know you are not legitimate.  Any legitimate
and honest collection agency or person working for them would not refuse to furnish proof of a
REAL and legal debt.

Your company refused to furnish proof of debt and proof of any claim.  You are NOT registered with the FTC and oh yeah, the BBB knows of you and have given you a rating of "F" and stated you are NOT members and they are investigating you.

Scammers!  That is all you are.  You will get caught!  You will go to jail for breaking collection laws and unless I miss my guess you will be found guilty of a lot more than that.

LEAVE ALL OF US ALONE....GO MAKE MONEY LEGALLY YOU SCUMBAG.

Oddly enough, I received a call from this company as well, the Federal Legislative Department at the return number, 888-785-4479.  I spoke with a Raymond Scott, who, like many of you, refused to send any documentation as to the payday loan he stated that I was in default of.  I stated to him several times that I would pay, if I was truly in default, but I needed documentation of this debt; and repeatedly, he refused unless I provide my payment information.  He also stated that I was being charged with 3 crimes unless I pay this debt.  But again, would not provide any information.  He provided me with my personal info, but would not give me any additional info in regards to which Pay Day Loan company the loan was received under.  I told him that I would not give him any documentation without documentation, which he again refused to send even after he again asked the question if I was aware of this debt.  After getting off the phone with him, I called the FTC and reported the call.  The lady I spoke with stated that she was almost positive that this was a scam company and to document if they called anymore.
