gita keeps calling me and dont speak

They keep calling but won't say anything when I answer. I don't owe anything and they keep calling from this number every couple days.

The company is Convergent Technologies Inc, whose letterhead says they're at 800 SW 39th, St (POBox 9004) Renton, WA 98057.  Also listing a phone # of 877 341-0006 X-2618.  They claim to be collecting for Verizon but for a land-line number # which I discontinued using and had disconnected some 10-15 years ago and at an address where I haven't lived for 10 years.   So the the alleged bill is bogus, and therefor a scam.  
The guy who called did say he was calling from Convergent on behalf of Verizon but refused to say what business Convergent was in when I asked, and kept insisting I needed to first confirm who I was and what the last 4 digits of my SS# are.  So when I began to tease him by asking him to first tell me what HIS name was and what HIS final-four SS digits were, he became annoyed and eventually hung up after he kept telling me I didn't understand and that I should listen to him and confirm my name and SS digits.  I amused myself while drinking my after-dinner coffee by repeatedly telling him that I understood fully what he was asking, and even repeatedly confirmed that I understood that he was asking me to confirm my name and confirm the SS digits so I fully understood what he wanted.   But I pointed out that it was HE who needed to listen and understand the fact that because HE had called ME unsolicited, I was under no obligation to answer questions from an unknown and unsolicited caller and further that it was HE who needed to first tell me HIS name and HIS SS final-four digits..... and we kept dancing around that fire until he got pissed and hung up.  Got a letter a few days later offering to settle the balance for about 90% of what they claimed I owe.  But since I haven't had that phone line (though it is still listed some places on the net) for over 10 years, I'm guessing the bill is not legit.  
What I suspect is happening is that this is a technically sophisticated scam where they check for inactive phone ## by robot and then attempt to scam the last or a prior owner of the # with a bogus claim for a past-due bill.    
Remember in dealing with them, that these guys are going to get paid only if they collect, and the more people they collect from in a day, the more they make.    And, conversely, if you keep them on the line for a long time, that's fewer other people they have time to talk to so they are going to get increasingly impatient if you keep them on the line for any reason because you are talking up time they could otherwise spend calling others..... assuming you have nothing better to do. In this case, I was enjoying my after-dinner coffee, so it was amusing and not annoying.  
Of course, this is not a recommendation on how to deadbeat out on any bill you legitimately owe, but in this case, it was for a phone # that's a good 12 years old and long disconnected and this seemed to be clear scam.

the first time i called i got hung up on. I called back again, and they told me it was convergence, and that they were looking for a Stephanie... clearly they have harassed people with the wrong  name and number before.  at least I didn't get hung up on this time....

I'm receiving calls from this number. I'm simply not responding to it. What to do????

I got a call from them. I have no outstanding debt AT ALL. I call the number back the next day and the person answering said Convergence, How may I help you?

EVER DAY I GET  CALLS FROM THIS NUMBER

This is a collection company.

This is Economoic Recovery- basically if you have any debt that is delinquent even 2 mths-even a few dollars...this company will snatch the loan up from the origin and harass you to pay a debt that has been charged off by the original company. Mine was a student loan who sold me to a secondary market. I failed to track it down in time to enter into a payment agreement and ERS bought it from them. They make commission by obtaining money which does not improve your debt and credit- it's free money for them because the debt has nothing to do with their company.

I first received this lettter from ERS saying that the records of VERIZON show that a balance of $50.00 is due in full. Crazy scam! I have a home and a wireless account with Verizon and both are paid the full amounts when they are due!The person I could contact with any questions was Charlynn Forte at 888-203-1294 EXT.636.

The recording identifies them as calling for the verizon account of Regina Miller and I have pressed 4 in the past and that is supposed to remove me from the list but it just hangs up the call.

I hit 1 this time to speak with a respresenative and he stated that this isnt for verizon and if I knew Regina Miller. I said no and said that I have asked to not call anymore. He hung up when I asked what company he works for.
