We you answer act like you are a phone service and ask them question.  You can also record a fax and play its tones when you answer.

What kind of silly person would call and when you answer hang up?  The people from this number?  Maybe they make their quota on the shear number of numbers dialed and not on sales?  heee

I have heard that it's now a rule of thumb in the telemarketing industry that they should give up after you say no three times.  It sounds like your experience is according to the rule.

This number keeps calling our house.  Whenever I pick up, there is never anyone there.  They are obviously on an automatic dialer.  Sometimes there may be a little delay in the system, but If there aren't any agents available to take the call, the dialer will drop it.  I called the number back and found out that Discover has been trying to get a hold of my wife- they are trying to sell her products/services for her account.  I told them to remove the number from their list.  It only took a second- press #1 to speak with a representative.

if it is discover, I guess that I willkeep the card in case.  They want to sell sell sell.
I'm already paying 12 bucks a month extra because they won't take me off of their insurance list.
I got on it when I owed 10,000 bucks. I don't owe that now. I don't owe anything but each time I charge and extra 12 bucks is charged and they refuse to take it off. I don't need anything else. I work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I won't use this card because of high interest rates either.  50 bucks a month in interest and 40 bucks a month in late fees.  Highway robbery.  I get the bill on the due date so you can't possibly get it back in time can you?

on 10,000 bucks it was 100 bucks extra each month.

I get an phone call from this number at lease one time a day every day. I do not answer and the Caller ID says Unavailable. It's nice to know that others have said this is Discover calling. I also heard that if you answer the call and press th e# key 6,7,8 times quicky, it confuses their machine and might remove your phone number from their automated list.

I keep getting calls from this number -- everyday for the past few weeks -- I never answer, it's my work phone number and I never answer unless it's a number I know (same with my cell) -- I didn't know it was Discover until I read all the other replies above.
The annoying this is - I answered once a month or two ago (I don't know if it was the same numbe,r but it was Discover) and the woman tried to sell me the protection policy thing - I said I'm not interested, she kept talking, I said ya no thanks, she kept going, I eventually hung up on her after telling her three times, and interupting her that I was NOT interested.....so I'm a bit annoyed that after telling them I did not want the service that they keep trying to call me.....take a hint people...

When I see this number I just hit the button on my phone to "transfer calls" to my voicemail so the phone will stop ringing....

Have started getting calls from this number lately. The reason most people that answer these calls get no response is that the calls are made by a machine. The machine is supposed to determine when the next 'operator' will be available to handle a call. The machine gets it wrong most of the time and there isn't an operator available to talk to you, so you hear dead air. But don't worry, the machine will just put your number back on its call list and keep calling until an operator is available to talk to you : (
I prefer to pick up the phone when these calls come in so that the caller has to pay for the call. Sometimes I place the receiver down and walk away for a few minutes, so if an operator picks up, they get to listen to dead air for a while : )

Whereas this number is only one of the many that I receive during the day, night time, and both Saturday and Sunday; and, whereas the "Do Not Call" list is as useless as (fill in your own word(s), I think we should establish a "Do Not Answe" list and have everyone in America submit every number they get unsolicited calls from to a central website.  Sooner or later these people will have no number to call from.  Except the blocked numbers and then we can tell our phone carriers to block them!

I signed up for a Discover card last fall. I received the first call from this number within days of receiving my card in the mail. They were offering me some sort of credit/identity theft prevention service. I said "No Thank you, I am not interested," and the woman on the line persisted, continuing to tell me about the service. As the above comment states, it went on for a few minutes, before I said "No" a final time and she thanked me and we both hung up.
Every weekday of every week, in the morning, and sometimes if they miss the morning shift, in the afternoon, I have received two phone calls, one from this number and one from a 1-800 number, seconds apart. I am assuming both are with Discover. I never pick up. They never leave a message. I'm on my last monthly payment to Discover (yay!). I will be cutting up my card and canceling my account soon after, stating this to be the reason why.

This number has called me every day for at least a week. If you answer the phone they ask to speak to "name". They then tell you that Discover is offering some kind of credit protection service. They'll send you the info in the mail including a look at your past 7 yrs of credit info, "YOU'RE UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO KEEP THE SERVICE. So in order for us to get this out to you we won't ask you any personal information but I do need to read you a few paragraphs and we just need to verify your mailing address. I'm now going to record you for verification purposes. Is this ok?"

I said "No I don't want it." They then will repeat their entire speech and again ask if it is ok to record me.

I said "No, I am not interested in receiving this service". They then will repeat their entire speech again and this time I herd the guy say it's just 9.99 a month and you can cancel at anytime. Is it ok to record you?

I said "No, I do not want anything sent to me." The guy gave up and said "thank you for your time".

I'm expecting a call tomorrow. And will be checking my statement to see if I am enrolled in the service. It's too easy for them to doctor the words I used into "I am interested".

I have a Discover Card, too. Called the number just to check it out and it says that Discover Card is offering a service. If interested, press 1. That's the only option. I usually just tell them NO, thanks and hang up. Works for me.

This is the third day in a row this number, toll free, has called at 9:04 a.m. leaving no message. Unless I know who is calling, I will not answer the phone especially early in the morning. I generally use Discover Card but may have to switch to another card if they keep calling. If I want a service "I" will make the contact.
