Just so you know, this IS a scam.  I have Aetna as my healthcare insurer and they are NOT cold calling people.  A valid call from Aetna will show up as Aetna on the caller ID. Having received these calls in the past, I called Aetna and they've assured me that the various numbers I've provided are NOT in their database as valid company numbers.  Don't be so obtuse as to believe everything a scammer says...

Scam. They claimed to be from Aetna, but didn't know my name or who they were actually calling. Kept asking me for personal information to verify my identity and I just told them to tell me who they were calling and then I'd verify if they had the right person. They couldn't provide my name, any part of my group ID #, my wife, son or any other information that Aetna would have had.

Word of advice; Never give any of this information to someone calling you. Ask for how to reach them from the main company switchboard (extension number, etc.) and call them back from the number on your benefits card. Either that or make THEM prove their identity. They called you, so they have significantly reduced the risk that you aren't who you say that you are.

To those who said that this wasn't a scam, call Aetna and verify it for yourself. Then take the next steps to report it to your local police. There are agencies that can offer advice to help you reduce the impact of possible identify theft.

AMEN!!!!!!  Aetna B*^%s%#** increases my frustration and irritates me to no end. I do not want or need an employee of an insurance agency "coaching" me.  I have a primary care physician and several specialists who actually have medical degrees and board certifications who manage my healthcare just fine.  Aetna needs to STOP HARRASSING the people it insures. The only thing they ensure for me is higher blood pressure, anxiety and irritation...all of which are factors that actually make my disease processes worse.

so it's a conflict of interest for your health insurance company to be concerned about your health?  What do they have to lose if you are healthier?  Lets see...they get lower medical costs, your employer (who decides what benefits go into your plan) gets a healthier employee, you get a better quality of life...yeah, pure scam.  Stay unhealthy and stupid, that'll show em!!

As far as I am concerned, my doctor is my "healthy lifestyle coach".  I don't accept health advice from my insurance company, that's a conflict of interest and I think it ought to be illegal.

Received call - a voice mail was left - said from Aetna - about important health benefits -
Call them back at the same number and enter the extension 4749289.

I didn't, of course because this is not an Aetna phone number listed on the Aetna website.

I got a call from this # and entered the 7 digit extension they left.  It said it was Aetna and was transferring me to a live representative.  It transfered me and I got dead air so I hung up.   15-20 minutes later I got a call from 408 220 6802 and the Voice Mail was from Aetna regarding my "Healthy Lifestyle Coach" asking me to call back to 866 213 0153 if I had any questions.   She knew my full name and company that sponsors my health insurance so I assume that all 3 numbers are assosiated to Aetna.  Personally I don't want a healthy lifestyle coach so I will continue to ignore the calls :)   LOL

This seems to be a legitimate call from Aetna. The robo-caller, "Ann", answers the phone then transfers you to a live person. I took the opportunity to scold Aetna for blocking their I.D. from caller ID. I explained to her that this is the reason I ignored her for the last 6 months that Aetna has been bugging me. I told her it would make the people at Aetna's jobs much easier if they would identify themselves from the get-go. I actually convinced her to tell me my street and email addresses after I gave her my Aetna number, so that I could verify that she is not just some scam artist. I actually gave her a pretty hard time that Aetna deserves for hiding their ID.  So it turns out that that she wanted to give me info about a new program. I already know all about the program from Aetna online. The problem is that there is no way online to decline this new "optional" program. You can sign up with various choices online, but the only way to decline is to talk to a real person (who can't pronounce simple English words correctly) and ask her point blank if I can decline and make sure she enters that into Aetna's database to stop the robo-calls.

Received a call from this number asking to verify my wife's member number and date of birth. She asked for me to tell her the information first, and I refused, stating that if she needed to verify it, she would have to read the information off to me. Overall the caller seemed unsure of herself the whole time.

I just got this message on my phone for my wife.
I called Aetna's number on our health card.
The representative did check their outgoing phone log but didn't see anything.

The representative actually offered to put me on hold and call the number (888 207 4324).
She said it was a valid Aetna answer.
(but I hope she wasn't just going by the auto-answer???)

Probably something everybody should do - just call the Aetna number on your medical card instead of this number.

You can see Aetna's warning here: http://www.aetna.com/individuals-families/fraud-alert-phishing-scam.html

Fraud alert: Cold Calls From Impostors. Avoid scams that use the Aetna name.

Aetna has become aware of impostors who are calling people ? often multiple times a day ? and fraudulently claiming to be from Aetna. The calls may be from an automated service that repeatedly dials a number or from a live person.  These calls are not being placed by, or at the direction of, Aetna.

I don't think that this is a legitimate call.  I had a voice message and called them.  They wanted a bunch of personal information which I did not provide them. The agent was from India.

Not a scam, if you are part of Aetna, this is a follow up to a health screen offered by my employer. In order to receive lower premiums they require you speak to a coach on a monthly basis.

Left a message about "exciting new benefits" after I had changed providers. Wanted my date of birth and address and did not seem to be informed I was no longer with Aetna. Suspicious call and I did not provide information.

The message claims to be from my Health Care provider Aetna. These robo-calls are almost daily.
It is obviously unauthorized telemarketing or phishing.
I do not believe a legitimate health Care provider would stoop this low, so it is probably a fraudulent call

The call is not a scam.   It is from a health care provider Aetna.   If you are unsure of it, then call your healthcare provider or change your profile settings to not receive phone calls from them.

This is apparently a scam.

I got a voice mail at home from "Aetna" about an "exciting new benefit" that asked me to call them back at this number.  When I called back, I got a representative with a foreign accent who explained that Aetna follows HIPA regulations and thus must verify that I am the insured before they discuss my benefits.  They asked for my birthdate and home address.  After I gave that, the line went dead.

This is apparently a scam of some sort.  I looked up the number and found it is in Asia somewhere.

Now they have my phone number, address, and DOB.
