It's illegal for debt collectors to talk about your debt with anyone but you. If they do they'll be fined, and I've heard that your debt would be forgiven, I'd have to look the last part though. They can't talk about your debt with anyone but you because it could cause problems for you, like you could lose your job, or your landlord might evict you if he learned that you were in debt, or your significant other could leave you. So if this company really is attempting to collect a debt, they either are unaware of these laws or they don't care

I just got a msg from Angela Martin, She indicated I should be well aware there was a complaint against my name and SSN for fraudulant use and I needed to call them back.  First of all, if there is a complaint it would be coming from me and I would be notified in writing.  I tried calling back just to see how many different ways they would answer and it is different every time.  If you ask for the person who called you, they put you on hold.  I called back a 3rd time just to have fun with them and let them know that the false information they are providing could get them in jail not me.  

You cannot go to jail if you default on a pay day loan.  So, if you do happen to pick up when they call...take it as an opportunity to have fun with them.

Harrasment from Anglea  Martin

I got a call from this number today. They just said they were an investigator but wouldn't tell me of where. They told me they were going to take me to court and put me in jail. Before he hung up on me he said i was "just a cupcake"!! I looked up this number online and found this website. I called them back and told them i was taking them to court for harassment. He told me to go f*** off and hung up again. His name is joe michels.

Caller did not identify his company, amount of so-called bill, or what company he was pursuing debts for, but did tell me that he was legating case to be held in Oakland County. He could not pronounce my name, but somehow had gotten my unlisted phone number. I was to be accused of bank fraud. I was told that this was my legal notification.

He told me to call him at ext. 361. Honest debt collectors do not threaten people, but work with them.

I will also report these people to Federal Trade Commission for harassing calls.

I am unaware of any debt I have not paid, even with planning payment plans with company representatives.

I haven't seen anyone come to serve me any papers or warrants. Contact your state's legal aid for information. It will better help you understand your rights, and what to do if you feel necessary legal action must be taken.

Received call from this number. Left message with threat of jailtime, and warrant issuance. When I explained I wasn't going to tolerate his threats of being arrested and if it continued I would contact the attorney general. The man became agitated and promised he was issuing a warrant for my arrest, all the while telling me I'm not a tough guy for whatever reason, and telling me to shutup. He then proceeded by saying, hey listen to this, and hung up. I made three calls back, only to be left on hold and never answered or spoken too.

These people called me and said they were charging me with check fraud. I called back and asked for the guy that called me. They said he was not around this other guy was rude wanted money now said i did not have it but i could pay 200 a month he said ok but only for 3 months so i agreed. Then i wanted to pay 50 a week he got all upset and started to yell so i told him to f**k off. lol then he hung up. About 20 min later hes calling again but i do not answer.This is a collect agent trying to scare you.

Contact your attorney general. They cannot make threats to you over the phone. And from what I understand, they can't put you in jail for money you owe. If you do owe, you will have to pay eventually, but don't let them harrass you without checking on your rights. There is a scam going around on this too, where they use your information to scare you into getting money out of you when it doesn't go toward your debts.

My circumstance is different than those reported as they weren't calling for me but for someone with whom they believed I was associated.  They didn't mention anything about debt collection, etc.

Received a call from "out of area - no identification"  - Caller identified himself as "Marshall" Grover and was looking for someone named????????.  Said I was "associated" with this person and left the the 888 209-4837 call-back ext 416.  Called and a man answered but a different name - I asked for the ext # and he asked for the case #.  Then, he asked for my phone number on which I had received the call; then asked if I knew this person and I did not. So, he said thanks and hung up without any explanation as to the nature of this call.  I tried to ask but he just hung up.  

Very strange....I do worry about "identity theft" and hope this isn't part of some scheme.

I got a missed call crom an unknown number with no number attached but I received a message saying i was under investigation for check  fraud due to a loan i received in 2008...the man left a name which i couldnt understand. I called back the following day and couldnt reach the man at ext. 477 because he was just leaving court and was helped by another man who said he was also an investigator. He said i owed $1500 and when i said i couldnt afford to pay that by fhe end of January like they requested an asked for details on what would happen if i went to court he started throwing numbers at me to settle the debt which they were doing by ?instant messaging? it went down to $427. I was so scared about the check fraud charge i agreed to pay the amt om 1/31/12. Later that night i went to a friends house and told her about what happen and she said the same thing happen to her and to cancel my debit card and verify the info before paying. I went and cancelled my card on the 29th and now seeing this. I very thankful my friend tipped me off otherwise i would be out over $400!! Yikes. It is unsettling that they now have my address and i cannot remember for the life of me if i gave my SSN..I dont think i did though. :/

LOL,,,,,there are so many numbers with this same scam on this site....Ive never ever had any type of loans at all and have gotten calls from these people....except they do not know my real name or anything at all...so the jokes on you and "them"ie you...being as you work for them lol

Hey dude I never had one. I was given as reference.  As to professional- I  find it hard to believe that every state attorney office and the FBI  would lie about these people.

you know the only people to take out payday loans are people that have bad credit and think that these pay did not use a scare tacticsday loans should not be paid back I got a call from these people and they were very professional if you people think that you can take out a loan with no interest added you are living in a fantasy they did not use scare tactics.... but I did wind up paying my bill did was wrong 2008 if you guys want to take out loans and I'll pay him back that is stealing.... no matte

I just received a call from the same number and person. They try to imtimidate and threaten you. They represnt themselves as being police or with the county or state of where ever you live. I called my state attorney general's office and they gave me some information on these people. If you ever had a payday loan these  people have fraudelently obtained your information. The states are no longer handling this. It is at the level of the FBI. Do not give them money or credit card numbers. Call your state attorney generals office for more information.The calls originate from Pakistan, India and Canada. Call the Sheriff's office.  It's a crime to represent yourself as the police when you're not.

I just received a phone call from 1-888-209-4837 inquiring about a second cousin that used to live at this address 20+ years ago. They said they were with the fraud division of our local police dept.  When i asked if they were actually police they wouldn't answer.  So, I called the police dept. and gave them the number. They said that they probably were a debt collection agency and to ignore them.  The issue I had was that the 888 people told me that I was "impeding an investigation" and would be in trouble.  So, I called the police back and gave them the 888 number because representing yourself as part of the police dept. (which they weren't) is a crime.  When I called back the 888 number to inform them of that, they hung up on me.  tsk tsk tsk  Mama didn't teach them very good phone manners.

I got a call from my Mom today (1-20-12) saying that she had recieved a call from the Department of Check Investigation Services in reguard to bank fraud from 2008 (having to do with a loan company).  I called them and by the end of the phone call, I was in tears.  They had my name, my address, and most of my social.  I got a case number but everytime I asked who they were, they would say the name really fast.  They told me I owed $1,132.76 to this loan company but they would accept $550 by Monday and then this would not be on my background check.  I spoke with an Investigator Martin and an Investigator James Hamilton.  They both said they were in South Carolina.  Then, they asked for my bank card information.  Not my account.  My bank card.  I told Hamilton that I didn't have the card on me and I would have to call on Monday when I did.  Should I report this to the police?  The guy was nice but they had all of my information..... I googled the company name he gave me, their names and everything.  The number led me here.

Just got a call from these a**holes, they are so unprofessional, screaming and calling names! I called my lawyer since I filed bankruptcy chapter 7 and owe no one anything and informed them of this. They hung up on me. They're a joke so don't let them scare you. My lawyer said that companies who call and threaten and claim to be "lawfirms", "sheriff's dept's" etc aren't! Real professionals like that first of all don't cuss at you and second of all, will tell you where they're from! No worries AT ALL!! I laughed at the guy and click...

I received a call stating that I will be charged for fruad with intent to defraud a payday loan company dated back in 2007. The man I spoke to stated that he was a lead investigator but did not disclose where he was calling from and everytime I tried obtained the information he evaded the questions everytime. He go me to pay $938.00 on a debt he claimed I owe back in 2007. At the time I did not realize that this was a collection company because the so called lead investigator consistantly stated Maricopa county Sheriffs office. OMG I was so scared because I have never been in trouble before. But I am out $938.00 that I dont even have. I traced the number back and found out that the collection company was

I just got a message with this number to call back. I couldnt understand who to contact back. They left a message for Check Fraud. I havent had checks for 10 years!! I pay cash and my bank card without any insufficient since I have had my account 15 years ago!

first they called and left a message on my boyfriends phone and now they are calling the office of the apartments i live at and saying it has to do with check fraud when ive never even wrote a check in my life i called and had my call transfered 4 times the first women i talked to said i owed $600. and gave me a date this happened then when she was talking she changed the date and story some i confronted her on it and she got really rude and transfered my call to some one else who told me i owed $400 we have now contacted the police and they have heard nothing of these people and are going to investigate so dont pay these guys they are the ones doing the fraud

I got the same call today from mr. jones, second call from the fraud supervisor, and a third call from John Michael. they told me they were calling me because of check fraud and I havent had a bank account in 5 years. they wanted me to pay 938.00 and if i didnt they were going to fill fraud charges and they told me to  see them in court.  They first told me that i owe them 2600.00 but they would settle for 938.00. They were all sreaming at me as if i was a criminal when i had no clue on why they were calling me. When i asked them were they were from first they told me  they work for my county sheriffs office and then changed it to fraud united. I told them to make up their minds. I called the companys they claimed that i owed and they couldnt even tell me who the company was and they told me to report them to the federal trade commission because they were going to do the same.  The company told me that there phones have been ringing off the hook from customers saying they are receiving calls from a company that is threatening them.

i got the same call 1/9/12 from same woman. she claims to be investigating check fraud, and i do not even have checks!
