I am a day late with National Grid. I thought the due date was the 28th but apparently it is the 26th. Today is the 27th. They are already harassing me.

All you do is call them back To bypass all the automated crap just keep saying operator AND NOTHING ELSE, no yes or no confirmations just the word operator every time the automated message starts to talk. This will quickly get you will get transferred to a CSR (Customer Service Rep) and then you will want to stay on hold as long as it takes to deliver this message.
When they answer, they will ask about the accounts YOU TELL THEM none of that is relevant because you're calling about the number they just called you from. And you proceed to tell the rep very nicely, but firmly, I know you're just doing your job so this isn't being directed at you so please don't take offense to what you're about to say and that the message is directly for their superiors and to put what you're about say into the computer or account or however your system is set up to take messages:
(YOU NEED TO NOT LET THEM INTERRUPT YOU AND IF THEY TRY JUST KEEP TALKING) an this is what you say:

We Deal directly with National Grid ourselves, so you need to stop calling people with messages about overdue accounts, bills they owe, asking for payments, and whatever else you're being told to do. This number has been reported to the authorities and your superiors need to stop having the people that work for them calling people from this number. That is the end of this discussion.

HAND UP and end the call

Next you call the local police and explain to them the phone call you just received along with what number it is and what you just explained to them, and that they might want to make people aware that this is going on, and if they do call again to notify the police so they can start a case against this.

That will usually end the problem.

Of course you also really have to deal directly with National Grid when saying that because you cannot file a false report.

I don't own them anythng.  They are calling for me to take a survey which I already told them no and take my number off their list. They keep calling, so I blocked them on my cell, but can't on my home phone.  I have been getting continuous telemarketing calls and I'm on the do not call list.  There has to be something we cal do about this.  They just keep ignoring the list.

I got the same call yesterday. My payment is only a few days late. I found that to be odd and what makes it worse is that I just saw on the news that there is a scam going on with them as well. The only difference is that the scam call area code is 617 not 888. Just beware and don't give any personal info over the phone.

They called after being 2 days late. Really!?? I hate Nation Greed! We should sue them for taking on that scam of a "delivery charge". It more than doubles my bill every month-that "fee" is more than my consumption! If that's not a scam, I don't know what is!

Just got a call from this number asking me to "please continue to hold." I hung up. I don't have an account with National Grid, and I literally just bought this cell phone yesterday, so I'm not sure what they're trying to accomplish with this. Scam all around, I guess.

What you all don't understand is sometimes people use fake numbers that happen to be other peoples real numbers...so that's how people without service get calls. Secondly not everyone there is rude..but it's tiring day in and day out that all you see is people that don't pay, or rely on the government(heap) to pay..something us as workers pay for in our taxes....Also we are NOT outsourced...we're in  the US for a couple states...majorly upstate NY.

Also like someone said, it's impossible to manually go through and remove a name from the system, but the calls stop after 24-48 hours when the system updates itself, and they can only call three times a day...if you paid your bill ignore the call, it's simple. If you didn't pay your bill, and didn't make arrangements then expect a call...its pretty simple.

Besides out of the thousands of financial statements I've done people are just really not putting money where it should go...I cannot tell you how many times I've gotten yelled at because we can't add cable or internet as an expense.

A) It's not a necessity to live.
B) You need to pay us, your electric, to even enjoy those things.
Some people really need to work on priorities and not call up screaming when THEY are the ones not paying their bills and utterly "surprised" when they get shut off.

I realize some reps are rude, and I understand...but a lot of us there are not, but we still get blindsided with people screaming and try to help them.

If you don't want calls, remove your number from there list manually by calling collections, looking up your account, and erasing both the primary and secondary number. The calls can't come with no numbers there, and if you never had national grid, simply ask the rep to pull up the account with your number on it, give them your first and last name, and they'll remove the number.

Some of these problems people call in for screaming are almost always easily solved (Leaving SOMEHOW magically owing 4,000+ dollars.) You just need to be calm and LET the rep help you....Christ.

National Grid Electric.  They are ridiculous. I could easily pay them on time every month, but I deliberately push the envelope as far as I can, paying them within days of being shut off...and even then I only pay the past due amount.  Everyone should do this to them, just for kicks.

Sigh....National Grid is awful when it comes to payments. Closed out my account weeks ago, paid my final bill, and they still haven't processed it properly...they keep applying it to an old account of mine?

Anyways, yes, this is National Grid calling you under/over/late payments on your account.

I just got another call, this time there was a person on the other end.  Reason for phone call?  Will I be able to pay my bill by 1/29?  are you kiddin' me?  today is 1/9...........I have 20 days.  They have called me everyday for 2 wks and not connected.  Are they planning what to do with my $90.00?  I asked her "why are you asking me this, it's not even due for 20 days?  answer from Nat'l Grid  "well, with the Holidays & everything we just wanted to check".  Are you kiddin't me?

OK, I just got the 3rd call since I paid the bill, which I did yesterday.

They left a message and asked me to call back. I called back and their computer system knew my name and address from the caller ID. The automated system told me my balance is $0.

So if their computer system knows, why doesn't their bleeping robocaller know?

You don't know how much I wish we had an AG in Massachusetts and not a gaseous lump of clay!

It's National Grid, telling you that their collections department thinks you didn't pay them. They call if you owe them money, or if you only paid them recently and their payments department knows that (and maybe even sent you confirmation) but their collections department hasn't found out yet.

In other words, it's a bug in their financial systems software, which was probably developed by $2 an hour idiots in India, and they wonder why Americans are having a hard time paying their bills.

I got a call yesterday. Looked up the number. Paid online. Got a confirmation via email. Today they called again. I hope they don't shut off my electricity. They don't care. They've bought and paid for my state AG.

Got a call from them today. The caller ID said "800 Service", which normally means sleazy telemarketer. They didn't leave a message. The same was true yesterday, but I looked it up on this web site and found out it was National Grid.

When I found out yesterday, I immediately paid the bill online. I even have an email from them confirming that I paid the bill. It came yesterday afternoon. They're willing to pester you on the phone when they haven't even checked their system to see if you just paid.

Why don't they just let you know in their caller ID?

What do I do if they cut off my electricity? Lose everything in my refrigerator? I can't complain to my state AG, because consumer affairs is one of the several types of laws she refuses to enforce.
