Received this today. Instantly knew it was a scam based on the simple fact that if I'm going to fax an opt-out how is it any easier to send it to them rather than the original company that faxed me? Also, they do not include the opt out number that they state is required by law. Sent a note to 877-661-2907 to opt-out just so I have more ammo if they keep faxing me, and reported to FCC: http://www.fcc.gov/complaints
Of course, like all of them, they'll stop for a month and then start sending me more.

I just rec'd a fax titled "FAX US YOUR UNWANTED FAXES" that appears official. I got excited because I'm tired of receiving unsolicited faxes and this solicitation claims that they'll get rid of them for free! It starts off with "In 2006, the Federal Communication Commission ("FCC") gave fax recipients the right to "opt-out" from receiving faxes in the future..." I googled "envirofax" and saw something provided by the BBB saying that this is probably just another scammer trying to obtain valid fax numbers to sell to someone else. What a bunch of crooks! Don't fall for it!

Fax from EnviroFax Commission received at my Citibank branch in Oakland, CA USA No number listed to remove THEM from future faxes.

A scam on Scam, nothing stops these guys
Shelley B. 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
I guess they are using a different number now. I received the same fax today, but the number is 877-661-2907.
Butch 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
Infinite fax loop is a good idea for revenge - except now they know that your fax # is valid.
Ann 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
I got it too and had been saving up my unwanted faxes, decided to google it before I sent them, GLAD I DID. Thanks for the info.

EnviroFax still at it on 7/14/2010. Pass on the info to your Attorney General also.
Government Office 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
I received this fax on 7/8/2010 that reads:
"FAX US YOUR UNWANTED FAXES
In 2006, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) gave fax recipients the right to "opt-out" from receiving faxes in the future. You may see this opt-out notice on the faxes you receive. Many recipients do not take the time to remove faxes or opt-out improperly which results in continued unwanted faxes.
The EnviroFax Commission is a nonprofit corporation. Its assistance if FREE. EnviroFax does not sell goods or services and will not contact you..."
Well I agree with the comments above they may not contact you but they will probably sell your information to others so that they can contact you. Also, if the company was real you would be able to find something in a search engine like Google other than complaints about this number. What a waste!
WendyHJ 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
They are still at it 9 months later - kist received the fax today via an eFax line (it used to be a landline and was converted to an Accessline). So no paper wasted but I also did a Google search to be sure since our company is interested in the environment and if this was the real deal it would have been cool.

July 1st, 2010. They are still at it. Reporting them as we speak.
Deseree Cundiff 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
Envirofax still sending faxes... Received one today. Will complain to fcc about it.
faxn8tor 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
April 13, 2010...received 'the' fax...from...ENVIRONFAX COMMISSION, 888-220-2706...
googled it..and found...latest entry was January, on my search results...
Lauren 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
And again today... just got our fax from them.
Mason 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
"Envirofax" is still at it as of 04/07/2010.
sick of scams 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
We need to find out the people behind these scams / junk faxes and tar and feather them on national tv.
MadasHellMary 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
Envirofax Commission is still at it in 2010.
The fax I received (unsolicited, of course) tells me to fax my unwanted faxes to EnviroFax at 888-220-2706. Envirofax will fax your unwanted faxer and tell them (via fax, of course) not to fax me any more faxes. Their "assistance" is "Free" and they are a non-profit no doubt profiting from their toner pirate escapades. Who are these idiots?
NCMC Lindsay 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
Same fax - this is a total scam, trying to get active fax #s. How ridiculous.
Sara Darling 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
I just filed a report with the FCC, and sent an email to the Verizon Business addresses listed in an earlier post (THANK YOU for those!). It sucks that the FCC reports take so long to fill out, because I probably get 10 junk faxes a day. I would love to report them all, but that's just too much time out of my work day. Maybe I'll start staying through lunch one day a week and just sending them all at once. I decided to report this one because they're posing as a government entity, which is especially insidious, in my opinion.
CW 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
You're complaint with the FCC evidentally didn't work. I received the Enviorfax scam letter the other day. March 2010. They're still at it.
CS 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
Mary,
That is obviously NOT the EnviroFax that everyone here is posting about!
You found a land stewardship organization which happens to have a "fax on demand" service that they happen to call the EnviroFax service.
We're all discussing the EnviroFax Commission scammers who are harvesting fax numbers!
Lisa 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
My work received one as well. Went through and just finished filling my complaint.
sickoit 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
People we need to write our representatives and make it so that the phone companies are responsible for making sure autodialers, faxers, and junk a** holes comply with the Do Not Call joke. We are not allowed incomming call information (like on cell bills). I contacted my phone carrier about autodialer harrasment with no luck and that's how I found out they have the information on who's calling but won't give it out to the victims. THATS JUST PLAIN WRONG!
nofool 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
so proud: our first fax from Envirofax Commission. First thought it was something new from the Obama administration, but I'm no fool, at least not after a few seconds.
Shelo 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
EnviroFax...give me a break! SCAM,SCAM,SCAM! Does anybody have info. where to TRULY report these ink/paper offenders? My printer is CONSTANTLY spitting out these unsolicited ads.
Gail 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
Ironic that a company claiming to stop you from receiving unwanted faxes would contact me using an unwanted fax, isn't it? And no opt out number, although I swear all calling any opt out number does is confirm that your fax works so they can sell your number to everyone! I'm filing a complaint. I encourage everyone else to do the same.N
Pat 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
Thank you so much for this input. I hate the advertising that fills up our trash, but hate scams even more. Loved the idea of the dark paper loop return. Yes, all good people run them out of business ... and paper ... and ink .... prehaps even the country.
Tom 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
I think the idea of faxing them a long fax might not cause them as much aggravation as people think. They most likely receive their faxes electronically to a server and don't print them. Just a thought to save the effort of faxing a long revenge fax.
Susan 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
I received this fax as well and decided that if it came from 888-220-2706 I am going to send their fax back to them with a nice little message on it.
debbie 2011-06-06 21:05:14 Unknown
recv'd a fax today, stating this company "EnviroFax Commission" could opt-out of unwanted faxes for us for free. Skeptical, so I googled it and found it does not exist as a company
