Aldous & Associates is a collections agency for Diamond Wireless and I am sick of both of them!!
Don't be fooled this is a real company.
My daughter bought a phone and put the number on my Verizon account.
I terminated the phone number and now I received a $400 bill.

Your responses to the masses here are amusing.  IF "Jim" is the first in line to receive inbound calls, THEN you MUST be Jim since you seem to know Aldous & Associates' collection mode operandi- that's Latin speak for your Circus Operation.  Also, your proverbial scare tactic reply: "If you don't pay us, we will report your debt to a credit agency which will adversely affect your chances of qualifying for a loan the next time you try to obtain credit"  is moronic.   I see these collection form letters targeting senior citizens, and my advice to the senior citizens is to throw the letter in the trash; burden of proof is on the party demanding the payment.  In case of insufficient proof (i.e., signature on a contract), then the claim is DENIED in any legal forum,

I received a letter in the mail from Aldous & Associates last week stating my gym membership was pass due $60. I immediately called my gym & they confirmed I'm current, never been pass due on my payments since I've been with them & too disregard the letter it was an error. Right after that I called Aldous & associates told the guy what my gym told me & he advised to have them call in to remove my name from collections.
So today I get a missed call today from Aldous & Associates. I called them after I got off from work & on my way to the gym. I get a guy by the name of Rick on the phone. He says his disclosures & asked me if I was calling to settle the debt. I began to tell him that this was a dispute & I did talk to a rep last week from their office as well as a rep from my gym & I was actually headed to the gym right now. Our convo went like this
Rick: actually mam you're not on your way to the gym.
Me: excuse me?
Rick: yes excuse you
Me: you don't need to talk to me that way
Rick: yes mam I do, you owe this debt & need to pay
Me: no you don't need to talk to me that way. Let me speak to your supervisor
Rick: I am the supervisor
Me: no you're not, let talk to your supervisor
Rick: mam I am my own supervisor
Me: then let me talk to someone above you
Rick: no there's not, no one above me wants to talk to you.

From there I told him that they do not have permission to call my cell phone anymore & hung up.
I have never ever been treated this was nor have I treated a customer this way. I actually work in collections & I know damn well this was no super rio & definitely not the way to handle someone's account.
I called back & got a really nice guy by the name of Steve. He let me explain the situation & was understanding. If rick ever calls me again it will be hell.

This is more of a comment on Diamond Wireless than you but you should understand why people are frustrated.
I have a pretty good IQ, a doctorate degree, own a few businesses employing 20+ people, and make good money. I'm a pretty responsible person but I have to say that there are things in fine print that I read and other things I don't pay attention to as much like most people. That's just life. There are some things you look at very carefully, like a prenup, a will, life insurance, etc.

And there are other things, like a cell phone activation, where you just hear out everything the sales rep has to say and try to just make a good decision based on pricing and your needs. But if there's something to the product that you're selling that's very "out of the ordinary", like a cell phone plan that has two separate fees for the same thing, you really should make sure the consumer is positively aware of that fact.

That way they don't feel duped. When my employees sell certain products and there are no refunds or exchanges for that particular product, they make sure the customer understands. Both by verbal confirmation and on paper.

In this case, the aggravating factor is not only that the consumer faces two early termination charges, the retailer (Diamond Wireless) actually charges ($400) a lot more than Verizon, the actual carrier (<$200). I'm not saying have a bleeding heart for everyone that posts here. But you should know that your company basically works with some companies with shady (nondisclosure) policies and understand why people here are frustrated.

I'm so glad that we have technology and the internet.  I immediately typed this number in the search engine.  Amazing that I got so much info only to confirm that this company is not reputable.  Thanks to everyone for these messages, I will not return their phone calls and thank God for caller ID, I will not pick up these calls.  They are calling from two numbers but the same company:  801-272-5281 and also 888-221-5155  Aldous & Assoicates.  Do not respond or answer calls from these numbers. Very unprofessional with a lot of noise in the background, could barely understand the nature of the call.

just received letter also... diamond wireless is getting list from verizon of people who early terminate( of course verizon says they are not affiliated with diamond wireless). Just wasted 4 hours of my time trying to fix( so far)... Called verizon who said everything was fine with my account too but they apparently are giving info to diamond wireless in this case was not correct because it was on a different phone. Can't wait till contracts expire and never buy from diamond wireless or I guess any so called Verizon store because third party store.

I got the letter but no calls - yet...

I read through this thread and like many here, thought this is a scam.  I do remember buying a phone and canceling my service in less than the requisite 185 days.  I found my receipt and found it was indeed Diamond Wireless whom sold me the phone.  Further, the receipt was quite clear about owing the $400 should I not keep my service for 185 days - and yes I signed it. I feel so stupid. Live and learn.

My question to the community is: How can two companies charge (Verizon & Diamond Wireless) the early termination fee for the same phone. I understand they sell the phone at a loss to make it up on service, but how can both companies be out the cost of the phone? Surely it is one or the other, how can it be both?  I can't believe that would be legal.

I do not think it would be wise to ignore this letter or the calls.  Check your receipt. If you cant find your receipt, go to the store where you bought it and learn their terms. You will likely be unpleasantly surprised - like I was.

I got a voicemail from a girl named Kay/Kate Miller back in mid January. Exact message was, "this is Kay/Kate Miller calling for (me) regarding a personal business matter. Please call me back as soon as possible at 888-221-5155.". It was late afternoon so when i called back, I got an automated after-hours message, but still left a voicemail inquiring what it was about. Seriously, NO return call AT ALL until late last week (February 24th/25th), while I was out of town. She told me she was representing the gym I used to go to, that I had a past due balance & that if I didn't give her a minimum $50 before i got off the phone, my account was going to be reported negatively to the credit bureaus because they had the power to do so. She was SUPER pushy about wanting me to give her my credit card info!! She kept pushing the subject & after a few minutes I was like, "hold on a minute! First of all, don't keep talking over me! Second, don't sit there & threaten me! I'm having an adult conversation with you, you want my money & you're going to threaten me? Sorry, it doesn't work that way & I don't even know you so why would I give you my credit card?!". She kept on insisting that she wasn't threatening, even though the conversation always went back to reporting me if I didn't give her my credit card info to secure the minimum $50 & save my account from being reported? She also claimed that they sent me an official notice & I told her 1) I haven't gotten anything from an attorneys office regarding a debt 2) If I ever received ANY kind of official notice from an attorney's office, I'm not the type of girl to just throw it away. I asked when she sent it, she said "months ago". Other than the upsetting "don't threaten me!" statement I made, I kept her on the phone pretty long & was nice the whole time, seriously. I made it perfectly clear though that there was NOTHING she could say that would get me to pull out my credit card. She kept trying, I didn't budge. Eventually the convo came to an end, she hung up on me frustrated.

I've done telemarketing & sales, I know the industry, I understand the pitches. I'm going to now call that gym to see if they know anything about this place.

I got a call from this number very late last night.  He said his name was Steve and I needed to call him back that night.  Called back and they were closed.  Called again this morning and sat on hold for 30 min before someone finally answered.  He said, "Hi. My name is John, how can I help you." I told him about the call I got last night and he says I owe Gold's Gym some money.  I tell him that's funny because in November, I moved from Texas to Michigan and cancelled my membership since me living more than 25 miles away from the gym location voids the contract.  Sorry it is not my fault they waited 4 months to process my cancellation and want $22 out of me for their mistake.  He told me it would damage my credit and I laughed and told him I do not have any credit (never had a loan, credit card, bill in my name, home, I am very young and haven't established these yet) and you are not hurting me any.  Also I informed him I contacted the BBB and Attorney General of Texas and they are resolving this matter.  He told me to send him copies of this paperwork and I refused and laughed again.  He then said, " have a good day" and hung up on me.

I am being harassed by the same company for a dept belonging to another person. They already knew this before the first call. But to quote them "we do not care who owes the money only that we get it, if you do not want to pay find john and make him pay us." They have threatened me repeatedly I just had four calls in less then ten minutes all attempts to make them stop have failed..i have no choice but to proceed with legal action.

Having been a manager for Diamond Wireless I can assure you that this is a scam. The only contract with Diamond that you have is the Customer Agreement that you will sign as you are cashing out your purchase. This states that If you cancel your service between day 15 and 185 you will be subject to an ADDITIONAL $400 ETF. We were instructed to tell the customer that this is to cover the cost of the discount you received on the device at the time of purchase. What is in reality is the amount that Verizon pays Diamond for each new contract. So not only are you paying off an ETF of up to $350 with Verizon you will also be charged the $400 by Diamond it's self for the tune of up to $750 ETF per line!!!! However Diamond does not use an outside legal firm to collect this "debt". They have their own in-house legal department that handles this situation but in more cases than not they will simply charge the credit card you paid with originally. This is why as a Manager and sales agent I was not allowed to sell ANY Apple products without a CC. They keep that number on file and will charge the card if you default in the 185 day agreement.

You know why it's a really good idea to register an account at 800notes? So that you don't have frauds getting away with posting under your name. Any fool can see the first "Chuck and Angie" are not the ones (the fraudulent ones) who posted later. Unfortunately fools are exactly the kind of people scammers are looking for.

Thia, you make so many good points. And even if they WERE BBB accredited, know that the BBB will even accredit a terrorist group: http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/business-bureau ... ory?id=12123843

Sadly, a good BBB rating is one of the tools scammers use to try to make themselves look legit. Most people don't know that ratings are for sale, so it helps sucker them in.

And you keep coming back here to share this... why? The only people who ever do that are the shills themselves. Also, watch your syntax; it changed after your first post.

Posters, if you received a call from this "company," do your due diligence - request debt validation. NEVER just pay someone because they claim you'll owe more or that they're "willing to settle" just today or "they'll damage your credit" if you don't pay right now. Collection agencies are not allowed to threaten you, but they will to scare you into paying money you may not even owe.

For those shills throwing out the "ZOMG THEY'RE BBB!"  well, there is a page for this "company" on the BBB, but yanno what the top line says? "This Business is not BBB Accredited."  Just sayin'.

Diamond Wireless is not making the mistake.  Our situation was a little crazy but got worked out.  What I can tell you is this... If you have ever gone into an "Authorized Dealer" and purchased a phone, modem or any other type of device and receive a discounted price by signing a 2 yr agreement with Verizon (whether it was an upgrade or new contract) you are ALSO signing a 180 day contract with Diamond Wireless, Go Wireless or 2B Mobile.  The sales associates are supposed to advise you to this but don't always.  So, if you are receiving calls or letters from Aldous and Associates CALL THEM BACK!  Also, call the store that you made your purchase and they should be able to discuss it with you as well.  This is SEPARATE from Verizon Wireless!!  If  you take the time to do the research you will find out it is real and can effect your credit!!

Do you think thst people are really worried about that s*** showing on thier credit? I work at a car dealership and we have had that B.S. come up when people apply for car loans and we are well aware that Aldous and A** are using fraudulent business practices and it hasn't stopped one loan from going through. Most of the people with this "flaw" on thier report have otherwise good credit and the dealerships around us are aware also ( we are in an auto mall) several dealerships in a very small radius. So don't worry , most places who give loans are well aware of this Aldous & A** and its not going to ruin your credit.  if a company cannot prove you owe a debt then it is null and void.

your welcome!  We worked everything out with the local 2 B Mobile in our area, since there was a misunderstanding on all of our parts, and an email was sent to Aldous and Associates to remove us from their collection list.  Since, we have not received any calls from you guys!  It may take some time and looking into but I encourage ANYONE that has received a letter or phone call from this legal firm to take the time to figure it out because it is REAL and can potentially hurt your credit!!
