Again I got another threatening phone call regarding college. When pressed them for information he became very defensive saying I could deal with him or face 36 counts of felony check fraud and deception for nonpayment of loan. I tried to explain loan was paid in full and owed nothing. Threatened to sieze bank accounts repossess vehicle prison time. He asked for email address when I told him I didn't have one he hung up phone. I called back this time got a lady named Angela  tried to explain same story to her. After I hung up with her (after she issued same threats) I called  CAFCU where I had gotten from college network they show no record if placing my account with collections or an attorney. Also as I said loan was paid in full January 2010. These people should be put out of business!!!!!

Even if you had a debt, in this country, debt is civil, not criminal.  To say if you don't return the call, you would have charges against your nursing license is ridiculous.  More info here:

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Jeff Lawson first called on January 24 2014   Stating if I didn't return call charges would be adjudicated against my nursing license in Johnson county indiana. I returned call it went directly to voice mail. He called again the following Monday threatening same thing in Henry county when I return call it goes straight to voice mail. His class have a very menacing overtone. He doesn't state if he is a bill collector, attorney, or street sweeper. I don't appreciate threatening phone calls from anyone.

They left a message on my mothers phone saying I may have to testify about charges being filled against me in my county.  Very fishy.  My brother is a police officer.  I had him run my name for warrants and there were none.  This happened a few years ago.  Same type of message.

Debt Collector
Angela Carol from this company told me that she was a lawyer and since i didn't pay on this loan not since 2007 that they are going to charge me with 36 counts of check fraud if it didn't pay 7775.00 by 6pm last night. mind you she tried to add up other fees to almost $20,000.00, but if i paid this amt of $7775.00 that it would all go away. asked me if i had a drug or alcohol problem. Well they sent me all these papers from 2007 and it had my partners ssc# phone number address on it, but the funny thing is that we didnt start dating until 2011, so totally scamming. Also they didn't know that my partners mom is a paralegal and works in st Louis and i fowarded the emails to her law firm....the company couldn't be contacted...i will be filling a compaint with the FBI and Attorney General as they have suggested. Do I owe someone money from 7 yrs ago yes, but this isnt the way to try and collect it.
