Received a phone call with Caller ID being my name and number.  I accidentally dialed the number and it gave me a message saying do I want to authorize an international call.  I hung up and hit redial.  The number that came up was 888-225-532-2151.  I suspect that the first 10 numbers are the phone number and the remaining 3 numbers are data of some sort.  I have received similar calls that I allowed my answering machine to answer and which resulted in four two-tone beeps.  Usually, the caller ID is a random set of numbers, but this was the first time they used my name and number as a spoof.

I got a message when I answered claiming I illegally downloaded music and that I had a court date coming up and was going to be fined. Funny thing is, I only use itunes so whatever to that. I got the same call from a 205 number and I figured it was a prank. Glad to know that other people have received calls from this number too.

I believe this number:888-225-5322 is for the FCC
to report crank calls, harrassing phone calls, sales calls, automated calling machines, etc.
I was given this number at another website about 517-931-2530

I had the exact same phone call.. a person speaking in Hindi saying they're from the "Canada Government FCC" - which is funny because only the US government has a FCC.

When I told him that and asked him where he was from -  he said he was based in Washington, DC. So I asked him what that has to do with Canada - and he said that Washington controls Canada.

I then realized that this was a complete FRAUD and hung up on him.. he called back 3 times.

What an annoyance!

I got a call from this number , at1815 hrs and again at 1845 hrs and said that he is calling from FCC a Goverment Body and would I like to get my number registered so that I would not receive any unsolicited marketting calls. I replied  YES. Then he said that I will get a call and a 5 digit activation code will be left in your voice mail, and within 5 minutes I will call you back and you please provide the activation number, so that no unsolicited calls will be made to you in future. They said this is a  Govt's service and to provide this service  I will not be charged a penny for this service. I received a voice mail twice (Caller ID: 310-928- 7055) which gave me a 5 digit activation number. After this  msg I immediately received call from the same person and I gave him the activation number and he put me om hold for a minute and then told me that my phone number has been activated and I will not receive any more tele calls in future.. But I still continue to receive tele-markating calls.

I hope it is not a scam !!! But I am certainly worried

calling from Iseein, NJ. Supervisor identified himself in broken English as Federal Government National Do not call list, FCC Phone number. The number they said was 1-888-25-5322. They said they had all the information on me about me. I asked from they to repeat my social security number. He gave me four digits which were not even near correct.

seems like a scam is going on.  The caller said he was going to activate my Do Not Call registry and in the process he noticed I had a Craigs List account and said he was going to deactivate that too, because otherwise they will start taking money from my account.  Then he asked me to listen to a voice mail recording of the 5 digit code that he needed from Craig List. What's strange is that I don't have an "account" at Craig's list, but surely the call came - it was an automated call (not a "voice mail" as the earlier caller had mentioned), and the recording said "never give out this 5 digit code to anyone; any one asking for it is part of a scam".  Finally, the first caller called me and asked for the code.  I told him I can't give it to him until I speak to the authorities themselves (I live in Canada), and he continued to plead with me to give the code!

Surely a scam is going on!

Pretending to be from the Canadian federal government. Wants me to go through some elaborate steps to get on the No Call List. Definitely from India. Only in India do they say "double 2" instead of "22" when quoting a number. I should know. I am from there originally.

I asked them give me a number I could call them back on and they gave me 888 225 5322, which I can't even access from Canada.

When I asked him if he was from India, (which is fine by me, as most such things are subcontracted) he suddenly starting saying "hello, hello, hello, .... " as if he couldn't hear me.

What a waste of time.

What the heck is a Craigs List anyway.  I have never used an account on that site, though I have visited that site many times.

Just  received the same call today! Did not provide the code. Called FCC, but they said "do not call" runs under FTC and not FCC. There is no information on either websites for initiating this program to call consumers to confirm do not call registry! It is a scam to rob your craiglist ID.

they left msg. to call back 717-338-2769, so not the 888 FCC number that comes through on caller ID

re: above craigslist info, we had just tried to do a phone validation for an account, and also a paid job posting on CL, so that might have brought us into the scam.

I've not called them, nor will I

I also received a call from the same number. A male voice with accent claimed to be calling from do-not call registry. When I asked why would the service call each and every individual to inform that they need a five digit number(received through voice message from them), he simply  replied that becaue of many complaints against the telemarketers, they were going to take action against them and that's why they needed our confirmation of receiving the five digit number.

I became suspecious and did not take the calls from the same number again. They have left a voice message with a five digit number and also called three times but I did not answer their call.

What's happening?

got the same BS as nothappy above. my caller said he was from the FCC and I could cause telemarketers a $1500 fine if I reported them, but they had to use craiglist servers to distribute 5 digit ID #s.
Clearly they were trying to connect my home phone number with a craiglist account.
When he called back asking for the craiglist number - i asked for a number to reach him, and he repeated the FCC number 888-225-5322.

A male voice (somewhat accented) claims to be calling from the National Do-Not-Call registry, saying I needed to authorize them the renew my registration. I said I believed the Do-Not-Call registrations didn't expire. I asked for employee id and name.
I was told I would receive another call with a 5-digit authorization code, and then another call from the Do-not-call registry, where I was supposed to give them the 5-digit number I had received.
I did actually receive a call, but it sounded to me like it was something about my  (!) craigslist account id. It was an automated call so there were no one to ask for explanation. I decided to NOT answer the phone any more; I received two more calls which I let ring through to the message service, but the callers didn't leave messages.
What on earth is all this about?

I received charges on my AT&T phone bill from both FAMILYCONTACT911.COM and US CREDIT FIND, INC both of which I had never heard of before.  This is the second month in a row that I have had to call AT&T about ILD charges that I did not sign up for.  I had asked AT&T to block any internet charges from my phone bill but they told me that they couldn't due to federally mandated law.  So I called the FCC (1-888-225-5322) and a representative told me to file a complaint on-line at www.fcc.gov and go to wired telephone, bill and services and fill out the form and submit it.  I thought that I would share this information in case anyone else is having this problem!
