Got the same intimidating message.  I called the FBI and the said they were familiar with the scenario and the company and to file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at http://www.consumerfinance.gov/ under debt collections.  There is a current investigation about this company going on now.  They need you to submit your complaint.

I have some people calling me, and telling me that I owe a loan. I don't have any idea of what they are talking about. Last year some one called and told me that I have a pending loan and if I don't paid they will take me to court. I ended up paying over a $1000.00. I call back for them to send like some kind of prove that I paid the loan. Guess what, I'm still waiting for the paper work.

Becareful out there

I am an attorney and I can tell you that a federal court lawsuit with service of process is called a complaint & summons, whereas a state court lawsuit with service of process is called a Petition & Citation.   And the likelihood of anyone being sued in federal court for a debt is VERY SLIM.  Therefore, that's a red flag & indication this is a scam.  Also, a bill collector should not lie to you and tell you there is a lawsuit against you in order to threaten you into paying a debt.  That is a wrongful debt collection practice and should be reported to the Federal Trade Commission, who has a website for initiating complaints of this nature.  Those of you who have been scammed - please take the time to file a complaint with the FTC in order to protect others from this illegal activity.

They're scammers!  Report them to the FTC and also to your state's Attorney General!  Plus, NO ONE calls to tell you that you'll receive a summons!  Process servers just go ahead and serve the paperwork.  They won't send any paperwork to you, because they can't prove that you actually owe this debt.

this is stupid my husband received similar calls to say he is to get a summons to court but they won't tell you what it is about i then called a different number about this which was a credit mediator for a debt that was include in a bankruptcy they said there was no evidence to show that we had filed then they said that they had not been informed and that we are to pay for an amendment on our bankruptcy to verify this. they also said they had sent a summons which they had not done, and that 3 letters had been sent to us which was not true

Returned a call to CDC spoke to Shawn 888-591-5929 who stated that I was being contacted for a bounced check back in 2007. Informed him I have filed bankruptcy and this loan from Cash Net USA was included per him I discharged the debt but not the bounced check. Which does not make any sense at all. SCAM ALERT also received call form 888-644-5564 which is the same company

Where do you guys live? Funny, because I, too, received an automated message on my work phone from a John Schultz, State Process Server who said he had just received my file on his desk and would be serving me between the hours of 4-5 at my home, job, etc. & that if I wanted to verify I could call the number back, but if he didn't hear from me he'd see me today.

What is even better is that the automated message NEVER states a name of whom the message is intended for, it could be me...a co worker...my boss...a client of the office I work at....I'm pretty sure that's illegal. The message just plays over and over until you hang up...

I received a call on my answering machine ... the caller identified himself as John Schultz, a process server.  Like everyoone else he was threatening and inappropriate ... the scenario that almost everyone else has described.  My 13 year old daughter heard the message as well and was terrified by the caller ... I was so damn angry that I called the number provided (888 231 4707) to give them a piece of my mind - I got an answering machine which identified the company as CDC & Associates without the ability to leave a scathing message of my own.  I should have come here first and saved myself the aggravation.  I reassured my daughter that there is no one coming get her mom for any reason ... I also showed her your comments and experiences - she is greatly relieved.

Yep all of you are right it's a scam or extortion for lack of a better word, just like some of the previous comments that were made. A legitimate debt collector has to follow the correct debit collection practices under the consumer debt collection act.  they must notify you in writing and they must identify who the debt is from, They can not come to  your place of employment and they can not continue to call you if you tell them to stop.  Obviously they don't know the debt collection act or the law regarding phone harrasment. The best thing to do is contact your local police departmet, FTC, even the FBI who is suposed to protect our infrastructure from seedy people like this.  Never give out any informatoin over the phone  SS#, address, bank info.  Remember if you give out bank info like one of the prvious complaintants, that mens they can wipe out your bank account at any time, and you have no info about them except their phone number, so you won't be getting your money back!   It is 2012 and we are much smarter than that, be wise and God bless you all.

Yeah i just got a phone call right now saying that they will serve me at my house or my place of employment between 4-5pm today. He said to call 888-231-4707 to verify my case, but the funny thing is that he doesn't leave a message for me he just says that he will be serving me today with legal paperwork. Really dude get over yourself I don't owe anyone money I don't get loans.

I just got a phone message saying I will be served at my place of employment or home or local gym or a diner or whereever, between the hours of 4 to 5 today.  First, process servers never ever "call ahead" and secondly I don't have any debts that I am being sued over.

So if you are going to do a scam at least try to be legit.

Not knowing that these guys were scammers, I set up payment arrangements to pay back a loan that I couldnt remember, but I was in a hurry and didnt want to be served papers so I did it! They have taken 2 payments of 248 dollars each and the 3rd and final is set to come out tomorrow! I guess I better get a stop payment put on it immediately so they dont get any more of my money! What does everyone suggest I should do?

DAMN, THIS IS ENTERTAINING! :)

my "contact" was Lisa from "legal Carrying Services" and "I'VE BEEN PLACED ON NOTICE". Kevin, if you're not a plant, then I have swamp land to sell you, honey.

Wanting my address so I can be served a summons? Funny how there isn't anything on record showing that I've got anything pending. Go figure.

sigh.

nice try, folks.

Don't you wish the scammers would spend some of the money on education. Say, English as a second language? But reading that does end the week on a laugh!

Wow, this site sure is making it hard to extort money on the phone now, isn't it? We're pleased to hear it. Love the language too! Does you mom know you're an extortionist, or did you threaten to send her a summons too? LOL

Thanks for playing.

received a call today coming in as private, so I let it go to voicemail. I received a message from a Mike Wallace stating that I would be served either at my home or employment within in 24-48 hours.  Also stated that if I'm served a work then I need to show idenfication and my supervisor will need to sign off as a witness.  Then the last part of the message left the phone number 8882314707 to call if I had any questions and to let me know that I've been legally notified.  For one I know that when you being served papers they never call you ahead of time to let you know they are coming and I've never had to show any form of identication.  And when looking my name up I see nothing being filed.

I received a similiar message (repeated twice for good measure). He stated he was the state locator and had  court documents in hand and would be at my residence between 3:00-5:00. I was given the option to call the plaintiff @ 888-231-4707-- otherwise he would see me later.
