I received a notice in the mail for the mortgage on my apartment! Hello! SCAM!
| anonymous 2011-09-15 17:58:09 Unknown |
mortgagereliefus.com is a website for the CC Brown Law LLC http://www.bbb.org/utah/business-reviews/loan ... ale-ut-22244912 (click the View Additional Web Addresses link) that includes mention of a Stipulation and Order from the Utah Div of Real Estate http://realestate.utah.gov/actions/46896.pdf CCB complaints and shills here http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-877-529-6756 Everyone please stay away from CCB -- what legit law firm uses shills with fake stories to drum up business?

I received the same notice in the mail. If you look closely at the small print (on the mailerI received the small print is printed immediately above the "LOG ON - OR COMPLETE & RETURN" line).
Only in the small print will you learn this mailer is from a law firm and the information about you was obtained from public records. It further indicates no government agency endorses them.
So, I am not saying the law firm is necessarily going to rip you off...but I am saying they are misrepresenting themselves as the mailer intentionally resembles a typical government notice--which some people may automatically assume is the government offering financial assistance. But in actuality it is a law firm, that will undoubtedly want to get paid, that is attempting to sell you legal advice/assistance.
It is a little too clever for me personally, and would trust a law firm much more if they just come right out and tell me who they are instead of masking their solicitation for your business as the government reaching out to you.

Just remember if they want money up front, then it's likely a scam. The FTC says upfront fees for mortgage relief services (mortgage loan modification, etc.) are *ILLEGAL* here http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2011/02/mars.shtm which states "As of January 31, 2011, companies that offer to help homeowners get their loans modified or sell them other types of mortgage assistance relief services are no longer allowed to charge up-front fees." Read all about mortgage scams here http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/menus/consumer/credit/mortgage.shtm and here http://www.loanscamalert.org/
Report to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.
