They are CRIMINALS and civility is wasted on them. Use a whistle, air horn or screaming smoke alarm to blow their ears off but since you are a nice person who wouldn't harm a fly as I can tell from your posts, play them a tune on your phone keypad while they are talking at you. You have to remember they are CRIMINALS trying to steal from you. You do NOT have to be nice to them.

I just stared getting a call on my caller ID as 00-000-0000 her name is Faye Johnson and she wants to know where she can serve papers at my place of employment or home. she advised to call 888 557 2302 that phone # is for Lochner gates & assoc. I explained that settled this matter with a different company I told them that I would send the paper work that I settled and they told me that the company did not turn the money over and it is still showing open. I called the company who I settled they told me I have the receipt that I settled this debt. They told me they just want me to pay the debt again. They told me the next time they call tell them the call is being recorded. I told them I had an attorney that is what the company told me that I settled with they said to have my attorney to call them..... is this company a scam..... They told me I can't send them any kind of paper that this was settled I ask them for there web site and they told me they don't have a web site

Don't know what their problem is with me, nothing to collect. But, I would think the best way to deal with them would be to make life hard for those who they train to be nasty. It's hard for anyone to work well with their job on the line, so maybe it would be a good idea to post a collection job opening for a collection agent and give their phone number.

The customer service reps are rude and not helpful.  I purchase something through Florida Beach Destinations and I cannot afford the fee. I called and I explained to the customer service reps and I told them I would pay monthly and I still get the automated calls.  The calls need to stop and they should send more statements out showing payment. They are also double billing me and my husband under tow different accounts.  I do not trust them.

Alfalfa posted in March 2009 so it's unlikely s/he'll see your post. The best source of info "as to what it is for" is your son. If he says "a dating site", why do you doubt him? Costs can vary depending on what "dating" entailed. Since your son recognizes the debt and had presumably given the charging party access to his account 2 years ago, it's unlikely he's being taken advantage of unless the creditor is taking excessive $amounts. You can calculate what's legally due if you know the details of the debt and your son has all the answers.

I have been getting some calls from them as well but they are showing as universall debt, look into what collection agencies can and can't do. I used to work for a couple collections agencies FIA which is really Encore a subsidiary of Convergys which was for
BofA and Client Services Inc which was for Citibank, If you tell them not to call by law they have to stop and there are some states where they can't call you more than 2 times in 7 days...do some research. while telling them not to call may not stop the collection activities it will stop the calls...also they can't give any personal info to anyone other than the part by law, at some point they have skiptraced your number or it was done in an internet search or some other ill gotten means, trust me I was one of them

I am a developer for a company and we recently started using these guys for financing & collections.

It's amusing how people will sign up for things then when they fail to fulfill their obligations they immediately claim it's a scam.

UGA is a legitimate company that is used by many other companies to collect on past due balances. We provide online education, and without these guys, we would would have to open our own collections department, costs that we'd have to offset by raising the price of the same education that people are failing to finish paying for.

They are apparently a collection agency.  Their tactics are ABSOLUTELY questionable!  They called a friend (under the guise of that friend being a credit reference)in an attempt to collect?!?

They keep calling for my ex-daughter-in-law, who has not lived here in over 20 years. Even though I have explained this to them, and told them that I have not seen or talked to her in many years do not know where she lives, or her phone number,  they continue to call. I do know if they are accessing old credit reports or looking under find a person who does not update their records either. Just found out today that they are checking my sons credt report.Finally got to the point where I do not answer the phone, until I know who is calling. My machine gets a lot of hangup which i know is them.

I recieved a letter from them after foolishly signing up with a make money at home online scam.  This is the information I have.

Universal Account Servicing
P.O. Box 147
St. Joseph, MO  64502-0147
888-233-2302

So far my interaction has been positive and it sounds as if I have been fortunate in that.  Time will tell.  They are servicing the "loan" for my online "business" that I fell for.

I told Universal that I had requested my account be closed and the loan canceled.  She said she needed written confirmation from the lender but that she would turn off the automatic debit while I cleared things up.

This telephone number is registered to Global Verge in St. Louis, although the recording said Universal something or other, he was calling about an important business matter. I hung up at that point. <grin>

Here's the link to the BBB Reliability Report, which is F:

http://www.bbb.org/stlouis/business-reviews/m ... is-mo-310323544

It has the name of the CEO, COO and VP of marketing. It is registered as a multi-level selling company, whatever that is. You  may have to cut and paste, since the link doesn't *look* live.

Dear {insert name of collector or company},

I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe.

This is the first I've heard from you, or any other company on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts:

(b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.

I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information:

(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable);
(4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state).

Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:

because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense;
you cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law.

you do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA;
Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA.

Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt.

I received a call from the above number asking  about my son, if I knew how they could get a hold of him.  I do not know who they were but were nice to me.  I could not help them so they asked if I would contact my son for them.
I called him and relayed the message to him That is all I know about the matter.  I do not wish to be in the middle of this and do not wish to be contacted further.
