Got a call this morning from a Mrs. Leadsome (if that's even her real name). They used a local number to call me, but asked me to call the 888-238-8232, ext. 2598. Other than that no info was given about who they are or the nature of the call. I don't owe anything to an ARS, so they can go screw themselves!

Hate to tell you, but you are wrong. The debt stays on your credit report for 7 years, but they can't sue you for the money if it is past your state's statue of limitation. Here in Florida, that statue of limitation is 4 years since the last customer activity on the debt. Each state has a different time limit.

Many of these types of collectors are unethical and violate the Fair Debts Collection Practices Act. Find out your rights and protect yourself! Many credit attorneys will give you a free consultation when you are being harrassed by companies like this one.

I have been receiving many phone calls from this number, I was tired of listerning to them on the recorder, so I hooked the fax machine on, so when they call, they get a fax.

Well, now they are calling my relatives, and tell them this is an attempt to collect a debt..  Are they allowed to do this?

When a debt is charged off it's still on your credit.  When it gets to a place like ARS it may mean your debt is very close to going to the courts.  The debt is owed until its paid or bk is filed.  Whoever the debt is owed to has 7 years to take some sort of legal action.  I would suggest hearing out a collection agency cause they are more likely to reduce the balance for you.  If you care about your credit and can pay something you may want to talk to them - I've had to work with some before and I only had to pay 60% of what I owed in payments.

My mom received a call for my wife.  The caller left the number in question and a ref. number, and requested a call back.  I'm pretty sure calling someone's mother in-law about debt collection has to be breaking some law.  Any ideas?

Sara at this number wanted to talk to the same person as has my name. I have no debt and owe no one any money at all. But I got calls from this number because there is someone else with my name who does owe various companies. I threatened them with the Federal Do Not Call list, calling their state consumer protection agency and the Better Business Bureau and would give them no information. They ended up hanging up on me when I asked for a supervisor.

This lady is rude, her name is Michelle Kennedy and she is with ARS collections. Her extention is 2454...I called her back on my skype so she did not know who the caller was. That made her a little mad...you do what you have to do in tough times.

First off - Blocked or Unknown Number in caller ID. Never, never, never answer a blocked number - period. Legitimate companies play by the rules/laws - i.e. no blocked, faked, partial, spoofed (etc) phone numbers.

Second - person that left message "Vanessa" did not leave 1) Who she was calling for, the information was (intentionally?) garbled (though the rest of her message of clear); 2) Name of her company (by law must be identified); 3) What the call was in reference, rules again; 4) Demanded a return call today (right) - it's your phone, don't be bullied.

All in all, if this was a debt collection company, many broken rules. Problem is the rules governing these companies are only as good as the enforcement - which is lax at best. I've turned this call over to the Federal Do Not Call List, though it was probably a wrong number - I will not have messages like that left on my VM or Answering Machines, even if for another company or individual. Suggest you handle these cats the same way...

Mr. Holloway (apparently has no first name) left a message wondering why the person he was calling didn't call him back. Well duh, no one here by that name. The message he left was not very professional so I googled the number and found this board. He made it sounds like this person would be happy to talk to him but from what i have read here, I seriously doubt that.

I've been through collection issues before and fought one in court and for those of you getting calls, don't answer. Collect the information from the message and send them a validation of debt letter. Most can't validate and if you push them, they will give up. They prefer to bully people into giving them money as opposed to having you assert your rights under the FDCPA. See these websites for more info:

They contacted my husband and demanded accounts numbers and routing numbers.  He stated he was not taking to them because it was not his account and took the information.  They state I had an overdue balance with Capital One on an account that was closed and transfered to my current account.  I owe nothing and do not plan to pay it.

I got a call from a local # with a Mr. Holloway thelling my voicemail that I MIGHT want to call him back today at the 888-238-8232 #. Very rude. No indication as to what company he was calling from or anything at all that would prompt me to return a call. I mean... Who wants to call a rude, strange, man back just because he says I MIGHT want to call him today. It is more likely that I MIGHT not want to call him back. :)

I received a call from a guy yesterday on my machine.  He left his # at 888-238-8232.   The phone# on on the caller ID was a 602#.   Said he had received a 'file' on his desk about my husband.  I called back, he verified some info and found that they had the wrong guy..same name, different address/date of birth.  He was very nice.  Said he'd put it in the file that he had the wrong contact and would remove my # from their list.
