Don't forget debt falls under a state's statue of limitations which is usually 2  to 6 years depends on the state you live in. if the last activate of the debt is older then the state statute of limitation then the debt is un-collectable and the debt collector cannot sue you unless you make some contact with them such as paying them some money on the debt or agreeing to something. That is why they keep calling you over and over, day after day, and be aware they are always recording your words in order to get you to agree to something. When you agree to something usually  will start the time-line all over again and now they can sue and report the debt on the credit report.  Bottom line if the debt is past your state's statue of limitations don't answer the phone, don't talk to them, and don't respond to any of there letters because any thing you say even it yes or alright to a question, can be consider an agreement.

I'm sure people wouild probably be more repsonsive if you told them what you paid for the debt. Trying to collect thousands on debts you paid pennies for!

You are a dirtbag!

I keep getting these obnoxious calls. Usually they don't leave a message, but today they did, for someone hasn't had this phone number for over 10 years!!  Scammers looking for your information. DO NOT give them any info.

I don't know who you are but they must be calling you too, huh?  They are calling my house looking for people who never existed here.  They have an old phone number and refuse to quit calling.  How funny is that?  Some people are not deadbeats.  I am at work when these POS fill up my answering machine everyday.  I come home from a hard days work and on my HOME phone are calls from people who WILL NOT stop.  How funny is that?  Your sense of humor is bent.

Have received three calls from this number with the same scenario everyone else has had except the calls are for my Daughter-in-law who passed away 3 years ago.  I listened to the call this time to see what it was about and it was this Stacy person who called. How can you stop this.  It is upsetting to say the least.  I have put my phones on the "No Call" lists.

I have no past due credit debits on any of my reports, but I have received two recorded messages from ths number on my voice mail.  The recording asked if I was "so and so" to hold for an "important call" and if I wasn't to ignore the call.  So I ignored the call.  A few days later I received the same message again.  So I went online and found the number belongs to a sleazy debit collection agency going under 3 different names that I found so far. Palisades Credit Collections, Merchants Guide Company and Washinton Mutual,  Merchants Guide was the name given on my message.

These a_______s have been calling me for years.  They can simply tell that I am not Richard Agar Marahumir, since I am a female senior citizen .   This number probably once belonged to richard agar marahumir, but they dont get it!!!!!!  Is there some legal action I can take against them?
They have repeatedly told me that they would remove my name from their list, but to no avail.

Get frequent calls, using my correct name, stating it is "billing" and that they want to make sure I received the correct "info" on my statement and that if i didn't get a statement, I can call them back to get the correct 'info" as they can't leave the 'info" in a message due to privacy laws. no company name was ever mentioned, only Lucille at 312-470-2631

I keep telling these people Im not Michael Robinson and they keep calling anyway. I have no debt collections and they don't seem to understand when I say to  take my number off their calling list, they need to do it. My advice. Let all unknown 800, 888, and 887 numbers go to voicemail. Why waste your time on some sleezy company trying to pin someone else's debt on you?

Had this message on my answering machine today:

"This is a message for Tracy D Lester.  If you are not Tracy D Lester please hang up or disconnect.  If you are Tracy D Lester please continue to listen to this message.  There will now be a three second pause in this message...  By continuing to listen to this message you acknowledge that you are Tracy D Lester.  You should not listen to this message so that other people cab hear it as it contains personal and private information.  There will now be a three second pause in this message to allow you to listen to this message in private...  This is Stacy from merchants Credit Guide.  This communication is from the Debt Collector.  This is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose.  Please contact us about an important business matter at 888-249-4134.  Once again that number is 888-249-4134.  Thank you."

1.  The statement that staying on the line after a three second pause acknowledges that you are the person they name is a bunch of s**t...  how, as in my case, is a machine supposed to know to disconnect?

2.  Allowing three seconds to allow the person to listen in private is funny...  If I picked up the phone, would not the message be private anyway since the phone would be to my ear?

3.  I have had this # for over four years now.  I receive calls several times a month from "financial" institutions looking for Tracy Lester.  No matter how many times I tell the callers that I do not know the person and ask that my number be disassociated with Ms. Lester, the calls continue.

Got the call was for someone else. We have had the current number for about 4 months. These people do not up date their records. Called them back and woman on the phone was very short and curt. It's just another credit collection group that have the manners of a bear with a thorn in it's paw.

These people call all the time, leaving a message asking for "Irma Gonzales". There is NO one by that name here. They have been calling for about a year and they call very early, and many times a day. I am so sick of this.

I got a call from 888-249-4134, and they got my voice mail...they left the "if you are "X", press one, if not, press 9 to remove your name from our list" message. The killer is, they asked for ME, but by my maiden name! I haven't had that name in many years!! I'm sure  I don't owe anyone any money, especially under my maiden name! Next time they call, i'm gonna answer and see what happens, and i'll tell them my name is Jane Doe, see if they keep calling back!

I got a call from this number on a couple of occasions.  Once they asked for a Gloria Fontenot; no one with that name lives with me.  Then, they called again, this time asking for my name.  The last time I had debt outstanding was Discover Card, Direct Merchants, Providian Bank and Capital One; all of which are now over seven years old.  First of All Providian National Bank was bought out by Washington Mutual in 2005 or so, then by Chase last year.  Second, Direct Merchants is now Household Bank (HSBC).  About 6 weeks to 2 months ago I watched a report about this company on Dateline NBC.  These people have been known to go as far as to say that you will be arrested if you fail to pay the debt as owed.  This is a scam, these people, according to the news report, are mean, doing everything that they can to get money out of the people that call them back.  I did not call them back, I then researched the number to this site linking it to this scam.  Basically this company buys old debt lists that are past the statute of limitations (7 years)for pennies on the dollar trying to collect, which is illegal.  I would recommend that people that are called by this company contact the Attorney General's office in their state for further advice as to what action they may be able to take in resolving this matter.

they called today and identified themselves as Direct Credit...want to talk to me about a debt... I told them what they could suck, that the statute had passed, end of story. glad I googled this..my hunch was it was exactly like this. they did ask for my name, however, I am c ertain whatever debt they are bothering me about has to be at least nine years old, if not longer...........actually, they hung up when they got my cell phone recording, but I called back and got some rude, ignorant, threatening bastard, which is why I was profane and insulting back. these people live to intimidate. they have the wrong one!
