Add me to the unhappy call recipients of Consumer Referral Agency.  I just filed an online complaint.  I usually let unsolicited phone calls go by with just hanging up on them.  This one made me mad saying they were calling at my request and then when I talked to a person to get the company name, she told me they are a non-profit and it's "perfectly legal" for them to call people on the DNC list.

I received the same call today from the "Consumer Referral Agency" claiming to be 'returning my call to get information regarding a HAMP loan modification.'  Of course I did not call them, do not need my loan modified and have no relationship with that business.  

The call registered as 'Private Caller'on my Caller ID - unfortunately I answered it as a family member who calls me also has their number blocked so I never know if it's a spam call or my relative.  I stayed on the line to talk to a representative long enough to get the name of the company and to ask their phone number, which they stated was 888-280-0298.  

I reported this call and phone number to the FCC's complaint website but apparently they're not able to slow these people down, judging by the number of others who have been similarly contacted despite their DNC status!

PS. People....  Do not return calls to these freaks from your home or cell phone (even if you want to do it to annoy them and take up their time).  Do it from a pay phone.  When you call from your phone they verify the caller ID and add it as "verified" to their robo system, after which they may sell the info to other telemarketers or use it for other propaganda.  That is the minimum level of information they are trying to collect in the first place.  It is just like the danger of hitting reply to spam email.  If they get you into a 'twenty questions' session, then they simply add the info they extract from you into your file.  Call them from a pay phone, and ask them what they think about global warming, or the upcoming elections.

I also received this, but I had requested a modification through my actual lender. They don't identify who they are when you call back, but do give you the option of "opting out" of any future calls.

I recieved a call from 888-254-5408 about a loan modification... I did not talk to this person, I believe this is a scam

This call was  "restricted" (caller ID blocked). On 1-26-2012 1:14PM, I received a call with the recorded message. I followed the prompts and spoke with  a female. She did not identify herself by name when answering.  When asked, she identified herself as "Jessica" and, when asked, gave the company name as Consumer Referral Agency. She was asked why I was receiving this call on a cell phone registered on the National Do Not Call Registry. She said that she has nothing to do with making the phone calls. I asked her to let me speak with someone that does. She hung up.

The phone number 888-368-3554 comes up for Consumer Referral Service. But the scam is the same. Only the names and phone number have changed.Both are running at the same time.

I have registered a do not call complaint as I will anytime I get unsolicited calls. I have posted the blog site re: 888-368-3554 in the complaint. People getting calls from this company need to do the same. It's actually easier than posting to this site!

It is a very simple process. The more complaints, the more chance of getting them prosecuted.

Being behind on your mortgage is not public infomation.  It might be in your credit report, but only someone with a legitimate business reason is supposed to be able to get your credit report.

This came up a private number, but when I spoke with "Loren," I asked what number she was calling from. She gave me 888-938-8682.  I then thanked her for the information and informed her we were on the DNC list and I wanted to know who to tell them had called. She said "go for it, its the wrong number." Regardless, Loren did confirm the name as was given on the ROBO call.

I complained, too but how do we know anything was ever done about it?  I'd LOVE to shut down some of these so called companies.

I just rec'd the dreaded call today from Lauren saying she was responding to my inquiry, blah, blah, blah.  The call showed up on caller ID as "Unknown Caller".  I called them back and spoke to 3 different ladies who all three hung up on me!!!  Too funny!  It does upset me though that they can barge into my home via the telephone without any repercussions.  One lady told me they were a charity and were exempt from the DNC list!!  When I incredously said "oh really", then she hung up on me!  I reported the number which was 888-919-2196.

I got same call, Lauren about "returning a call for loan modification" we never called their office and we are on do not call list, I just filed and FTC complaint, if you are on the do not call list you can also.

I just got a message on my cell phone from Lauren.  Same as all the other posts.  I found it odd that she did not mention which organization she was calling from.  I checked to see which number had called me and it showed up as restricted.  Which was another reason to doubt that it was a legitimate offer for refinancing.  That's when I googled the number she left in the message and saw all your remarks.  Glad I did too as it confirmed my suspicions.

Same recorded message from Lauren saying she is returning our call regarding a mortgage inquiry asking us to call her back at 1-888-254-5408.  We have not contacted anyone regarding our mortgage and are on the do not call list.

Yes, I received a message from Lauren on 12/27/11 late at night, saying that I had requested information on a loan modification and that there was a new government program....  I have never asked for this information, and I don't have a mortgage and don't need a loan.  So, I called them and asked where they got my phone number from --- some database of phone numbers retrieved from various sources.  When I accused them of a scam, and wanted their information, the girl told me her name was Stacy Wilson from Consumer Referral Agency, a non-profit agency.  When I wanted to speak to her manager, she told me that she was the manager.  As I told her that I was going to report her and her company to the BBB and other agencies, she kept trying to tell me that my name would be taken off their list.  I told her that wasn't good enough.  She hung up on me.  I called back and asked for Stacy Wilson... no one there by that name.  Big surprise..  I was now talking to Tamara Farris who didn't know a Stacy Wilson.  I told her that her company has employees that lie about their names and hang up on people, and that "Stacy Wilson" should be fired!  Funny that Tamara was also a manager...

I got the same call today (12/28/2011) from "Laren" in a very excited tone of voice.She left the message on my voice mail.   I have no idea why?  Call her back today she said----NOT!  It was interesting that she mentioned I would qualify for home modification loan even if I did not qualify for the HAMP loan.

Same-O, same-O. Lauren, claim to be responding to a query, etc. Will add to the number of DO NOT CALL complaints made regarding this number.

Got a automated call ...number was restricted.  Caller ID'd self as Lauren.  Asked me to call 888-254-5408 if I wanted a loan modification.  Also told me I had asked them to call yet they didn't ID whom they were.  And it was on my cell number which I never give out.....

WOW   I called back and the woman was slightly rude and hung up on me.  I called again and she said "Have fun we are off and you can call the answering machine.  I don't know what they are or what they want but I think we all ought to call nonstop and tie up their lines

Their message claimed that I had contacted them to be told about mortgage rates.  That is totally untrue; I never contacted them and don't even have a mortgage or need one.

I received a message on myvoice maile telling me that I have not paid mortgage, which is not true and I do not have any loan with them. When I called that number nobody answered.

Got the same call on my cell from a private number about being behind on my mortgage. However I do not have a mortgage, so perhaps the numbers were harvested or sold.

Got the same call. I called them back to get an ambiguous menu then a girl who just answered, "hello". I asked the company name, which sounded like Consumer Referral Agency. Asked if she knew they were robo calling numbers on the DNC list which naturally she hung up mid sentence. Reported to DNC registry.
Interestingly, the girl who answered sounded like she was from the midwest.

Received a message from the same number with the same story...blocked id and "Lauren"....  The ironic part is that I just submitted a request for a loan modification... hopefully no one at the mortgage servicer is leaking people info out to these guys.  Anyway, I intend to set them straight if I ever get another call on my cellphone from "Lauren"... I am on the "do not call list"

received the call today on my cell. i have never spoke to anyone about loan modification, at least not this year. Lauren sounded so happy to help. left the message for me to call her back. yeah, right!

Got the same message from Lauren tonight so I tried to call it back and see who it was and got a voice mail saying you have reached the companies voice mail.  No name of the company or anything.  Sounds very suspicious to me.

There was a solicitous call to my cellphone today about a government loan modification program. It came from 888-254-5408.

Got a call from Lauren 12/08/11 in the evening apprx 7:15 pm - about loan application - same as other calls

I got the same message, but I am looking for a modification for my home.  I did not know who this Lauren person was, as she is not the person I have been speaking about my modification.
I was told that if you are behind on your mortgage that it is public information.  So I thought maybe that is how I was contacted.
