Now have received 2 calls on my cell phone from a Jamie Peterson about a "civil suit" stating that she is going to visit my home and place of work. She left a phone number the first time, but it was 1 digit too long, and then today left a phone number of proper digits. She said that they will take legal action and to have my license and be ready to meet her in 1 hour. She left a phone number and a case number. What is this nonsense?

This person named Natalie Bennet(or so she said) Has called me a few times. I called the number she left and they would not even give me the company name after I told the if they did not quit harassing me, and my mother...they have called her too telling her they were going show up at her house (northern California) to serve me papers, and they have called my number and said they were going to show up at my house (southern California)... I would sue them. She called yesterday morning and said she would be out btwn 12-5pm to serve me, at my house or work, she was a no show. She called again today and said she would be out to serve me today.....still nothing.....I'm pretty sure that process servers do not warn you and I don't owe anything. Does anyone know how I can report them for harassment??

Received a call from "Jamie Peterson" she is supposed to show up at my home and 2 other addresses tomorrow and told me I better be available. She refused to tell me what it was pertaining too unless I gave her my DOB. I refused so she said "See you in court".  I called the sheriffs office and clerk of court, there are no civil matters pending against me. This is a scare tactic.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

She's a fraud. So what you do is ignore her. Or, if you prefer, DEMAND a legitimate notice of validation be mailed to you. NOT e-mail or Fax. As per federal law, under the FDCPA. When she refuses, or starts to make excuses, she has confirmed that she's a fraudulent debt collector or (more likely) just an outright scamming FRAUD!
Live Well.

Do not worry, that is an empty threat, I have been served before on other matters and no one calls you and tell you that in advance, they just show up and do it. This is a scam to get your info and money, just ignore them.

Report the calls to the FTC, the FBI and your state's Attorney General.  Only very shady debt collectors and scammers call and threaten people with service of court papers and say it's fraud.  It is a violation of federal law to threaten alleged debtors to get them to pay a debt.  Do NOT pay them a dime!

When "Rachel Harris" calls back, tell her that on the advice of your attorney (whether you have one or not), you're recording all calls she makes to you for multiple violations of the FDCPA.  If possible, DO record every single call they make to you.   Demand that they mail (not email or fax) proof that you owe a debt and that they are legally entitled to collect this debt in your state.  Any company who refuses to mail you this proof is owed nothing - per the FDCPA.

Legitimate companies who abide by federal law have no need to threaten people.  They would send multiple dunning letters before they even decided to go ahead and sue for recovery of debt.  And no one is given a heads up they'll be served papers or arrested.  Let the callers know you're on to their scam.

Same story here, going to serve me with papers at my home and work as well as some other people. Waiting to see if they show, definitely just a scare tactic. I had Natalie Bennett and Nicole Smith call.
By the scare tactics used, probably some sort of debt collectors.

They actually called and left a message at my parents residence with the same civil case story plus a message on my cell saying she was going to serve me at my home and work.  Guess what I work for the local courts in the civil division,  lol. I think I would know before I get a phone call if there was a case against me. Has anyone actually showed up with papers for anyone?  The woman calling me claims to be Natalie Bennett.

Received a call from these scam artists telling me they were serving me with civil documents and then named two people who were also being served that I've never even heard of.  In order for them to file any claim, there needs to be a summons and complaint filed within your local jurisdiction.  Little do these idiots realize but I work for our local courts and know for a fact that NOTHING has been filed in my name in our court or any other court in this state.  They are on a fishing expedition.  Just block their numbers.  They do this every few months.

She said she talked to me the night before and I said I was cooking. This ia a joke. I never spoke to this lady and my husband does all of the cooking. I am waiting to see if the papers appear ??????
