We received a letter in the mail for an individual with the same last name.   I called and was told that they did a public search and sent the letter to our address.   !.   Never heard of this person, 2.  Been at our address for over 30 years and the Direct TV service for this person was not at our address, 3.  Did not have our phone number.  Explained as a collection manager I know the laws and you can not just mass send collection letters to any and all in hopes that one of thenn will not know and pay.   They said they would remove my address and I expalined I was turning this over to my attorney.   The person I spoke with told me there was no need because they were removing my information.   Very shady collection practices.

I get this this notice once every two years from this company. I have not had the phone # listed for over 8 years. The closing bill was paid in full, they are a fraud...be careful!

I just received a letter (20June2008)with the same phone number as above 888.257.1585.  Doing a Google search online indicates that the phone number (845.485.7204) that they say I owe money on ($418.91) is a landline in Poughkeepsie, NY.  A town that I haven't lived in for over 8 or 9 years. The 845 area code is for upstate NY. I believe it to be a crock, but like the previous person, I'm going to watch my credit reports and check with a few friends of mine who work for Verizon.  The letter indicates the Original Creditor as Verizon New York Inc. and the supposed Collection Agency is Afni, Inc. (www.afnicollections.com).  When I lived in Poughkeepsie, NY I never had a Verizon phone, but rather Cingular and I always paid my bills on time in full.

same as rene letter i say I owed 1200 to Bell Atlantic I never have bell atlantic,PLus I pulled my free annual credit report and nothing shows

Same as anonymous in KY. I got letters saying I owed money to Bell Atlantic and asking me to call 888-257-1585. Do they even have Bell Atlantic anymore? Each letter had a different phone number. I threw out the letters, but I pulled all three of my credit reports just in case there was some identity fraud. Nothing seemed amiss.

we keep getting bills saying we owe money to a phone company and to call this number about it...problem is 1. they have sent us two bills both with different numbers on it and the bill amount on one is almost $500 and the other is only $140. problem #2 is that we haven't lived at that address, had that phone number or even lived within 500 miles of that state in over 5 years and we know for a fact that we paid it all in full before we left. Be careful!
