A scam may be  going around calling people and telling them they are from Publishers Clearing House and saying you have won an unclaimed amount of money.  They send a courier with a check to your home and all you have to do is show some id.  They gave this number 888-269-1882 as a Publishers Clearing House claim department. They don't ask for any money just your name, verify your address, age, birthday, and martial status.  Can you check this phone number to see if it is legitimate?  Thanks

This is some sort of scam. PCH does not call you. They just show up at your house. The caller probably has a foreign accent which should immediately raise some flags. Don't give them any personal information.

Guess what, my elderly mother received a call from "Joan Lewis" of Publishers Clearing House stating she had won 279,000 in unclaimed winnings.  "Lewis" advised there had been a mix up in addresses and that Clearing House had been trying to get her correct address for several months.

"Lewis" gave an address of Port Washington, Ny and two telephone numbers: 888.269.1882 and 516.301.5922 that she could be reached at.  "Lewis" insisted it was not a scam and that she did not owe any monies nor needed to reply with any personal information.  A claim number as well as check number was provided to my mother along with instructions that UPS would be delivering a packet to her home tomorrow.  Before hanging up she was asked her age.

A simple search over the net will provide the obvious findings that this is a SCAM.  Though my mother is not a spring chicken,  she's no dummy either.

Don't be fooled by "Joan Lewis" or any other fake name used in this type of scam.  PCH does not call people nor do they send checks by mail.

She called the Better Business Bureau to report the numbers that BTW always ring busy on call back.
The BBB verified that this is a SCAM and not to accept any items delivered by UPS or any other courier service.

PCH has a scam department 800.392.4190 for reports and questions if needed.

Its a shame that some enjoy taking advantage of the elderly like this.  Too bad cowards like these would never meet face to face.  Scumbags...........
