I received an ad in the mail saying that I have won two round-trip airfares for my birthday and that they have been "going crazy" trying to contact me. Yet I have not changed numbers or entered any contests. How can I find out who they are and if it is legit? I hesitate to call the number.

I also got this letter today, as of Dec. 11th. It has the Thrifty car logo on it. I did not call them, but reported it immediately to Thrifty.com headquarters.

I got this in the mail as well - they got my name off a mailing list at the Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market and have been calling me trying to convince me to come hear their time share presentation ever since.

We are going to the presentation to earn our "Airfare" on "A Us Airlines" this weekend. Will post with the story afterwards.
hoodwink 2010-06-15 14:26:42 Unknown
It actually says, "FLY A US AIRLINES" whixh could be any US Airline... I still wouldn't do it.

Sure... and think about it, once they have your caller ID logged (because anytime you call an 800 number your ID is no longer restricted for that call) they can put your name and info on a list and sell to other high pressure sales forces.
Thanks to all for posting to this site. I will toss in trash now. But you can still wish me a happy birthday!
we did something similar and enjoyed a free stay, but when we turned in our voucher for reward (all "t"s crossed and "i"s dotted, we were stiffed anyway)

It said US Airlines
There is no US Airlines, but there is a US Airways!

got the birthday card today - 5/18/2010
i knew it was a scam to begin with. last time i flew us airlines was when i was around ten years old. also, have never used thrifty car rental and after reading these posts about thrifty allow scammers to use their name to rip people off ill probably never use their busniess. also, my birthday is in January. im just sad that probably alot of people will be ripped off from getting this in the mail. people who are less uninformed (i.e. no internet) and desperate and once they fall for this too good to be true card in the mail they are going to be even more desperate.

I also received a birthday flyer,, it sounded to good to be true, glad I looked up the number and read all the comments posted. Thanks to all

Yep. My birthday's coming and the "too good to be true" mailer came offering two tickets on US Air and 7-day Thrifty rental so I checked the phone number online. Thanks for the "heads-up." Tossing it in the trash.

My husband received a birthday mailer, also. It looked pretty sketchy. I'm glad I didn't have to call and listen to their shpeel. Thanks for your post and info.

We did get the same post card with all the same info as above, but we were never told where to go for the meeting. So we are not going. They asked us to call the, but we are busy people, so they called us to remind us about four days before the meeting and we didn't have the address. Almost got into the scam. But thanks for this message board maybe it will assist other people.

I got one today, on 12/11/09.
I reported it to Thrifty.com and I am surprised they allow the use of their logo on the letter.
In my opinion, it's very damaging to Thrifty Car Rentals. I also think, by law, such letters should disclose who they are and what they are doing.

Don't do it...the are what is explained here.A pitch to draw you in and pressure you!

I got one in the mail today for 2 free airline tickets in celebration of my birthday.
I am glad I know now that this is just to sign you up for a vacation club. I attended one of those 90-minute meetings already. It took us 5 hours to get out and we signed up for a 1 year membership. Obviously our will was not strong enough.
Save your time and throw this thing away.

I received flyer for 2 free airline tix "in celebration of my birthday". I never signed up for a contest or have used Thrify car rental ever. I figured it would be too good to be true! I'm thankful for sites like this that informed me before I called!
jimmy 2009-08-24 23:48:54 Unknown
We just got the happy birthday mailer. sheesh... where'd they get that. Scaaaarrry...
Thanks for the info. great heads up!
grammy 2009-08-19 22:56:43 Unknown
I got one in the mail too and decided to call. It is First Class Travel which is a Vacation Club. Attend their 90 minute presentation, where the try to get you to sign up for their vacation packages. Even if you don't you still get the airline tickets, good for one (1) year. You have to pay about $75 tax on the car rental, $50 per person tax on the airline ticket and the ticket is yours. You have to have strong will to resist the salesperson.
