This is Legit. I called the 888# back and told the rep I didn't want to give him any of my info. He gave me the 888# on the back of my card to call and verify. I called the number on my card and they verified I was on a fraud watch list due to some purchases. Easy peasy call the number on the back of your CC or Debit cards.

Visa Fraud prevention on behalf of Schwab bank. Confirmed w/ them why they called (two different gas authorizations in same day/different times/same location). Just speak to an agent (hit "0" when it asks for card #) if you are wary.

Automated message said they were Schwab Visa Fraud Prevention Services but anybody could say that.  I called Schwab directly (number on the back of the card) and asked them to transfer me to Visa Fraud Prevention Services.  They did and gave me the number which was the same as this one.

Not exactly good form to condition people to give credit card number, last 4 digits of SSN, etc. to an automated message but this seems to be a legit number.  You should still call the number yourself as opposed to just picking up because caller ID can be spoofed.

Event Reminder
Was legit - called Schwab and they said it was visa fraud protection. So I called 888-277-6280 and they will give you the case #. VISA fraud will ID you by your calling phone number (provided it is the one registered to the card) they don't need name or credit card # - ask them for the case #. With the case # I then call Schwab.  Schwab then put me on a 3-way with visa fraud and yes there was a problem.  Schwab is great!

Legit. I am a Schwab customer. I called - they verified some info - they confirmed fraud and canceled the card and told me to call schawb to get a new one. I called schawb, the confirmed that visa had taken the card out of commission, confirmed that there was a declined charge on the account, and reissued a new card. If you are getting a call from that number - call it back or call your bank.

Why are there so many idiots that spread misinformation.   This number is from Visa and its legit.   I found there was a fraudulent attempt to use the card and the automated system told me to call Charles Schwab toll free number which I verified online was Charles Schwab since its on their website.

AGAIN...THIS IS A VISA FRAUD PREVENTION AUTOMATED SYSTEM....IT IS LEGITIMATE.  DON'T IGNORE IT OR YOUR CARD WILL BE BLOCKED.

IDIOTS PLEASE DON'T KEEP SAYING ITS A FRAUD.

This is Visa, I had called Visa when my card would not work because of an input error I commited. Visa was trying to call me at the same time.  It was nice to know they were calling quickly after I screwed up and set off an alert, much better than just de-activating the card.

This is a VISA Fraud prevention number.  In my case I grabbed the wrong card and put in the wrong pin.  After realizing my mistake I used the correct card, however my failed two attempts triggered this response.  I stopped before the third simply because I did NOT want them to turn off my card which automatically happens if you attempt it a third time.

Since they call a Skype VoIP number, there is no way for me to answer the phone and let them know it was a mistake...of course by not attaching a cell phone number with the card it helps protect my personal privacy.  Never associate financial / banking information with a cell phone.  (I know most of you reading this find that hard to imagine...)

Word of Advice, If you try twice (debit transactions with a Visa or MasterCard) and fail, stop, DO NOT ATTEMPT A THIRD TIME, call the number on the back of the card before you make another attempt.  The third failed attempt automatically turns off the card.

They could be calling you because your card has been stolen, however in my three experiences, I was either traveling or fat fingered my pin number, so for me to date this has been more of a hassle than it is worth.

They are contacting you because you had trouble using your card (wrong pin) and they have flagged your card as a potential for fraud, its not necessarily turned off.  To avoid problems, if you do not want to answer their call, simply call back the 800 or 888 number on the back of your card.  Your financial institution will verify you who you say you are and let Visa know that everything is okay.

This is NOT a bill collector.

I put Unknown, only because the list did not include Fraud prevention on a Debit card.  Even when things are okay with your financial institution, VISA will do this and say they are protecting you.  I always call the number on the back of the card and let my bank/financial institution deal with Visa.

I received a call from this number but did not answer. They left a voice mail saying it was Visa Fraud Protection and that was it. I called them and they asked for the case number left in the voice mail (no case number left) and when I said I didn't have one they asked for the card number which I did not give out.

I called my bank and they said there was nothing on my account flagged and that I should not give them any info.

Same thing happened to me: the case number they gave me didn't go through, so they sent me to an operator who asked me for my name (which I stupidly gave), and then asked for my card number, which tipped me off that they were scammers.

This is a fraud, they tell you to put in the reference number and when it is not recognized, they tell you to put in your account number.  I hit 0 to get an operator and it disconnected me.  Do you give them your account number!

This was VISA Fraud protection. I held on the line and a customer service agent started asking me for my personal information. I'm sorry, if you're the fraud department and you think the way to fight fraud is to call random customers and ask them for their personal information, you're actually opening yourselves up to be a victim of fraud in the future. At the point that you give customers an expectation that they'll ever receive a call from their financial institution and have to validate that the person the bank called is the customer by asking them their personal information, you're toast. Any Joe Schmoe can call anyone else up and pretend they're VISA to get the same information. Also, even if you look up the number by caller ID and find a site like this, that doesn't prove anything phone numbers can be spoofed (there are even web sites for it to make it really easy to do). So even if you think it's 888-277-6280 it's possible that our caller ID has been tricked (really, it is).

I'm a customer of Charles Schwab and that's the card they were calling about, but Schwab themselves told me it isn't them it was VISA.

I talked to VISA and they said that they never would call customers up, but Schwab themselves told me they do it all the time.

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION if they call you. Do not even give them your last name. Do not give them your date of birth. Don't play into this game.

If you have a legit concern, call the number on the back of your actual credit card or you bank's main customer service #, don't call a number that someone left you on a voicemail.

I got 4 calls from the number and one voice message with a case number. Yes I was suspicious so I entered the case number and waited until I could speak to someone there. They were holding a purchase I made last night online that was larger than usual. They didn't ask for any personal info, just verified that I had made a purchase for X amount to Y Merchant. This is not a scam.

Got a voicemail from this number saying it was the Visa Fraud department on behalf of my bank and wanted to verify some charges and to call back the 888 number with a case number given to me or my CC number. I called the number on the back of my card, and he said there was nothing wrong with my account. And he would give the 888-277-6280 number to anti fraud department. Well he called me back about 5 minutes later and said that this number is a legit number. But I didn't have to take any further actions. When in doubt call your bank first.

got two calls from them.  I've been applying to jobs in AZ and they're filled with scams, I'm guessing that's how they got my number but I'll check my VM and see what they have to say.

The call was Visa fraud prevention. I called back and was prompted to enter information by a computer, but I chose instead to hold and wait for a representative. She read back my bank name and the last four digits of my credit card number and then asked me to confirm some activity by my reading my street name after she had read the street number and then the amount of a series of transactions after she read the payees.

No fraud.

I called the number on the back of my credit card and had them transfer me to the fraud prevention department.  The fraud department said 888-277-6280 is a scam; it's not one of their numbers and there are no fraud problems on my account.

This is NOT a scam!  I called 888-277-6280 when I saw the repeated call on my caller id and it was indeed a call from Visa Fraud Prevention.  They asked me to verify the amounts that were charged to my card and the amounts were exactly what I had charged.  If you call the number you can do the verification automated or speak to a rep.

The reason I returned the call was that I had ignored a repeated 800 number call in the past and wound up having my card suspended.
