Someone from this number called our TOLL-FREE customer service line.  That is totally ridiculous.  Why would my employees have the information they were requesting?  If AMEX wants this information send it in writing to the business address.  Don't harass my employees.  I am not calling the number back.

Our company received calls from them as well and told them to take us off their call list and reported the calls to AMEX customer service, they stopped.  We had a credit check done when we opened the account, pay our charges every week and you see the occasional credit inquiry from them.  If valid financial reports where required they would send you a written request, not make a telemarketing call.

I am an Amex employee and the numbers you were given, 888-290-6418 is indeed a VALID #.  This is the underwriting department.  Mostly the calls are going out to small business card holders which we are required to obtain valid financial support in order for us to support the type of spend our card holders want to do.  With the economy hitting rock bottom, we are not doing a more extensive check into our card holders insuring they can make payments on their accounts.  If we allow our cardmembers to continue charging without having finacials to back it up, we as a country will be right back in the position as before, IN TROUBLE WITH OUR FINANCES.

Someone claiming to be from American Express called and left this telephone number asking us to call back. We did call back. Bottom line is they asked for all kinds of information. They said they were from the underwriting department of AMEX. They asked a lot of questions and I should have known better than to answer any of them. They also gave us a fax number 866-759-8980 that they said was secured for us to send 2 years of financial statements for our company. About an hour later, the man called back and said our information had not yet been sent. I said of course not. Our accountant would need to get them to me. It would take a couple of weeks. I started to get suspicious. I called the number on the back of my AMEX card. They said that neither the telephone number nor the fax number were valid AMEX numbers.
