Debt Collector
My son's ex-wife stole his identity while he was in Iraq and ran up about $12,000 in payday loans. Unfortunately, she used my cell number as a contact number.  The last laugh was on her.  She is in and out of jail.  He has discharged and is doing well.  Although he had to hire a lawyer to help him with all of the debt she ran up.  He finally got it all paid off... and is now working on rebuilding his creditworthiness.  However, the scam calls are coming in where these losers have picked up OLD debts and are attempting to collect on them.  This number 888-295-3814 is just one of them.  We're also getting calls from the law office of Daniel Slane... and another one from some chick who says her name as Sarah Waters.... does anybody recognize that name.  Sarah Waters is the character Julia Roberts play in the movie Sleeping With The Enemy.

This is the latest incarnation of the scammer "Hanson Law Collection". Total criminal scam. Hang up. You will not be sued. You will not be served. If I worked for these people I'd be afraid of getting arrested.

I assume these guys are debt collectors, they called me from a local number with a recorded threat of legal action, saying press 1 to talk to an agent (no thx) or call 888-295-3814. I only have debt to one company (thanks to my sister stealing my identity) and it is already very old, I assume this must have been about that. I assume they buy debt for pennies on the dollar, usually if you avoid these types they eventually disappear and sell your debt to someone else.

I just recieved a call from PR Associates, regaurding a legal case # for a SUPPOSED debt that I don't owe. How did these jerks get my cell #? the phone # that popped up on my call log was 1 888 295 3814, but when I checked the call heading info the # was different. It was 1 253 248 6391. So glad someone found out it was a total scam before I too fell for it. So thankyou to whoever did the research. The information is truly appreciated. As a general rule people always get collection notices in the mail prior to any debt collection. The legitamit collectors will also send notices first with an actual amount and name of the party the debt originated from. Never a supposed last attempt scare tactc phone call. So thanks again.

This company called PR Associates called) and said they were in pre litigation and we owed them 1600 plus dollars...told the guy I was going to research the company and he said fine.  He said his name was WAYNE!  The number he called from 719-873-7621 from Del Norte, Colorado and I asked him why did he called me from a Colorado number when he said he was in New York..he said they had offices there.  And he gave me this number to call him back  716-210-6206.  Well I researched and researched no such web site or name for a attorney or collections.. The I reached your web site and read the reviews that PR Associates is a scam. So I called "wayne" back and got a message for a guy named "Michael Stone" and I hung up..I called back and this time "Wayne" answered....I told him that I had researched his company and it could not be found ..so I asked him what his companies web site was..he said they did not have one as it was being re-done.  I then told him he was a scam and I was reporting him..he said "ok fine"....Come on folks if this was a ligitimate collections agency or attorney they would have a web site etc etc.  By the way when I asked the guy what PR Associates stands for he said "Pine Recovery Services"..also researched that and no attorney and no collections.  There was someone claiming to be an attorney and it was listed in the country of India.  Obviously this is a SCAM!  madams

"Kyle Newman" called me too trying to get us to settle out of court for a loan from pack management group, which we'd never even heard of. We definitely didn't get a loan from them. They said we got it in 2010, so I couldn't even verify it from my bank. I'm sure they knew the records only go to 2011 without a special inquiry that takes days. He said I had to pay today or he'd have to expedite it to court... lame.

These "IRS" calls have been going on for quite a while now. Today was the height. I had three messages in an hours time. All these days I had been polite to not answer the calls and not respond to the annoying messages, being fully aware(browse and everything you need to know is out there) of what was going on. Today's needed a rough handling. I had noted seven different toll free numbers including a number from Toronto (1-415-251-6327). My immediate reaction was to call back the number, make sure it was the "IRS" and give them a piece of my mind. I called 1-888-705-1251, a female voice answered. She claimed she was the IRS. I asked if Adam Jones was around, "yes" was her response. When asked to speak she said "no". I asked why so? He left me a message to speak with him. She said "its my choice". I took off from there using all foul language. She would not even let me complete. She hung up. I started trying all the other numbers, verified "IRS" and did the same. Then so called "Adam" called me back. I took off in Hindi, he hung up and was stuttering for words. I called back the female voice a million times, she just kept cutting my call. In the afternoon I called again (guess what IRS was sleeping....well, night in India). My call woke her up and she responded "IRS". I gave her a piece of my mind, asked her for her mom's number , told her that they were running a global scam. Guess what? I think they play recorded tapes to make it look real but little do they know that it sounds so stupid.
Here are the different numbers :
1-866-978-5506 No answer
1-607-323-3064 (Adam Jones)
1-855-861-4806 No answer
1-888-705-1251 (lady answered the call. She is probably sitting in India) Adam Jones here too
1-415-251-6327 (Toronto) Someone answered and was putting up a fake id number etc.etc.
How I wish these people can be tracked down and brought to justice. Wasting people's time and scamming innocent people.

Received a call from these people about a Pay Day Loan I apparently took out several years ago. The woman I spoke to was very nice, but could not give me the year the loan was taken out (she thought the debt was from 2008 meaning I wasn't 18 yet).  She told me she was calling to settle the debt before they filed a wage garnishment or a lien  against me before the statute of limitations was up.  I asked for her phone number so I could get back in touch with her about this supposed debt so I could dispute it.  I called the number provided, and it is no longer in service.  I also spoke to my attorney, the statute of limitations in my state is 4 years, meaning it has passed, so I am now ignoring them.

So they do keep calling, the cell phone.  I've got call control which sends the calls direct to voicemail.  I don't bother to call back anymore because I know it's not going to get them to stop calling even though I can prove that I did not get a loan from Money and More.

Interesting fact is that not only is PR Associates trying to collect for an supposed outstanding debt for Money and More (again, I do have my records from that time period, no funds applied for or received from Money and More) but there is another agency, Samuel Sole and Associates trying to collect for the same debt.  I know that my information was sold or stolen and has recently be put through the automatic filing for more payday loans, on the old outdated information.  I have filed with FTC, BBB and FBI and follow the FDCPA, knowing that if I ask for debt validation, they by law have to provide it.  I also have put a flag on my credit information (fraud alert).  Also, my first red flag of any scam is the threats to serve me or put out a warrant for my arrest.  I know that the arrest is not valid in the US for an outstanding debt and that nobody forewarns you if they're going to sue you which has happened to me when I had an outstanding loan I forgot about while going through a divorce.  That loan has since been taken care of, so nothing outstanding in a collection process for pdl's.

As with everyone else, I urge people to file complaints and to report it on forums like this so that fewer and fewer people get caught in their web of lies.  It's a scary thing to be called and told that you're going to be served or arrested, or even called by someone claiming to be a lawyer or an officer of the law.  Most of those are threats and against the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act).  If people don't fall for it and pay a debt that isn't valid, then these people would go out of business because they can't collect any money.  Staying informed, knowing your rights so that you pay only valid debts helps to put the scammers out of business.

I just received not 1 but 2 calls within 2 days. Both have called my Aunts house threatening her with court because supposedly she is a co-signer on a loan or something for me. Today I actually got a voice mail from a PR Associates 1-888-295-3814 ext. 101 Frank Warren I think. Idk he talked way too low. He gave me a case number and told me to respond immediately or I will summoned to court for bank fraud. I still have no idea what this guy is talking about so either me or my husband will call tomorrow telling them to either produce proof of this case in writing and sent to my house or leave me alone.

No, it's the opposite of what Thia wrote, which was that the "burden of proof rests with the debtor". The Missourian was right to challenge the incorrect statement. I expect it was a malaprop moment, as I've seen that Thia knows better. Strike "debtor" for the word "creditor" or "collector".

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.
