Hey, I received the same call from these folks.  I actually donated last year by mistake.  Now, they called again and want my credit card.  I told I do not give out the credit card number over the phone.  Now that I have found out that they are a scam, I will no longer donate to them.  They will call back when they find out they have not received their donation.  I am so sorry that scams have to discredit the rest of the good veteran organizations.  Thank you for fighting in our wars.  We really appreciate it that you are there for us.

The law restricts telemarketing calls before 8:00 am and after 9:00pm. Political organizations, charities, and telephone surveys are exempt from adhering to the national do not call registry.

Got a call today from the Foundation of American Veterans.  They wanted to have a donation to send a box of things (not food items) to a Veteran and also which price box would I pledge to send; $30, $40 or $50.  The gentleman handed the phone to a young woman who proceeded to ask me for my credit card number....no way.  They will be sending the information to me so I can send them my check.  We will see.  After what I have read here, which has been helpful, believe I will donate another way.

Ditto to all the above.  I am a female Air Force Lt Col married to a retired Air Force Colonel. The jerk has called us at home as early as 0820 during the 2008 Christmas holidays . . .my husband told him to send us paperwork and we could consider a donation, but the guy persisted in wanting a concrete "dontation".  Tonight he called and asked for my husband. When I asked the purpose of his call, the caller said . . ."that was between him and my husband.  I told him to put us on the "do not call list" to which he replied "I don't have to do that".

He does not know that he is dealing with a female Air Force officer . . .who does not suffer fools.

866-363-5837 justed called.  When they originally contacted me they told me they were the Navy now it's the American Veterans. My father was killed in Vietnam when i was 18months old.  I know all too well the stress on a family not to mention on the soldier.  I gave the first time.  Even wrote a letter to a soldier which probably didn't get delivered.  Since I turned the "navy" down last week now this American Vet, is calling.  If you want to make a donation...go to a recruiting office to find out how or just contact one of the bases.  What a shame.

As the wife of a real veteran, 22 years in the Navy I am outraged the tactics this orgfanization employs and I'm willing to take them to court for using harrassement tactics. Only scum would do this when we have real men and women who need help.

WOW these guys are ignorant. After several calls today I answered and told the guy the name he had for the phone number and address was wrong. He flat out didn't believe me and repeatedly asked for my name and address. He practically told me I was lying.
I had already researched the phone number so refused to answer his questions. He got annoyed when I told him it was none of his business when I moved into this house and how I got this phone number.
I will never donate over the phone again. These guys have ruined it for legitimate non profits. In future I'll pick local charities.
I already posted this response on another forum but want people to see how these guys act.

I ran into the same problems listed above: calling without speaking when you answer, not answering their F*&^!@(G phone numbers when you call them, multiple calls during the day to ensure "your gift" status is correct, bogus contact info on their web site, etc.  Like most greedy and corrupt scam organizations, they respond well when you tell them you want to INCERASE your donation.  I left that message on their voicemail - ON A FRIDAY NIGHT - and got a call back within twenty minutes!!  I learned this tactic works well for those creepy televangelists too.

I let the caller have it and told him to take my number off of their damn list and he got pretty rude.  Never the less, I made him read back my number so he got it right.

As a military retiree, I find scam artists who target their victims and use the suffering of US troops to be the most vile sort of humanity and should be punished

This Foundation for American Veterans lists itself as a non-profit organization and is therefore, unfortunately, not subject to the FCC no-call rule.

I have called the number on the fav.org website and left two voicemails on each of their extensions asking if the 888.296.8089 number is affiliated with their officially posted 866.944.8877. I have left voicemails on both numbers indicating that I am also on the do not call list and I consider this harassment. I used to donate to them but this unprofessionalism is a complete turnoff.

About the same as above except we never answer the phone. It's freak'in annoying and I'd love to get my hands around their furry little necks and strangle them.

I think they got our number when my wife sent a contribution to St.Jude for Children. Isn't it just perverse?

Perhaps a letter to the State Attorney General is in order.

"Foundation for American Veterans" is robo-calling me several times a day for a month from 832-295-3926.  Never anyone on the line whether I pick up or let it go to answering.  When I call back I get a recording stating I must give my name, phone number, and some other kind of number to get off their list.  I have called repeatedly demanding to get off their list.  The Better Business Bureau reports this outfit has refused to provide information about themselved to the BBB.  The "Charity Navigator" states that fewer than six percent of funds collected is distributed to veterans services.  Wikipedia also reports that they are basically a bogus outfit.  I am reporting to every agency I can think of.  These people are cons.

I think I managed to get them to stop calling me.  Last time they called (2/29) and asked for the wrong name again, I told them I had no clue where she (the person they asked for) was and that if they wanted to talk to her, they would have to track her down some other way.  I sound young and sounded close to tears, so the guy probably thought he was talking to some kid whose mom left her.  They haven't called at all since.  Of course, maybe they listened when I told them to take my number off their list.  Regardless, no more calls from them.

Similar experiences as those already posting.  The Foundation for American Veterans is a legit charity organization -- if you call less than 10 cents out of every dollar actually getting to the vet "legit".  Depending on where one checks, between 6 and nine cents per dollar is all that gets to the person we think we're helping.  Check out
http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=content.view&cpid=351

or

http://secstate.wa.gov/charities/search_detail.aspx?charity_id=20279.

Perhaps answering the phone and confronting the caller (undoubtedly a paid solicitor feeding from the trough of human charity) with that might stop their annoying calling...
