They said I was only a top candidate for the prize if I used the magazines - um hell no.

I received a phone call from a Matt claiming to be from a third party that prepays for magazine subscriptions.  Matt informed me that I will now receive a monthly charge of $59 per month for the next two and a half years on my credit card to pay for my "subscription for a women's package".  This included 5 magazines: Everyday with Racheal Ray, Good HouseKeeping, Family Circle, Better Homes and Garden, and More. Apparently they have on record that I have been receiving all five magazines for the last two and a half years yet I have never received any of them.  He claimed the reason I didn't receive my magazine was due to a slight mistake in keying my address into the system. They had the wrong street number.  My neighbors must have received my magazines for the last 2 1/2 years.   I will still be billed the $59/month because they have already prepaid for the magazines I haven't ordered or received.  They were very willing to work with me to lower my monthly payments from $59 to $39 and would cancel my "automatic renewal" for the next five-year subscription.  I was passed onto a lady named Jessica (because I kept asking to speak to Matt's boss). She FINALLY explains that they will send me papers in the mail within a 3-5 business days and I can find information on the papers to explain how I can "settle our of service".  When I asked what exactly I should be looking for (ex. an address, phone number, etc.) she could not tell me.  She told me they would give me the phone number to settle out of service but not to call until I received the paperwork in the mail. To receive the number I had to  answer their "pre-recorded and taped" questions.  However in this series of questions I would have to agree to accept the $39 monthly payment.  I hung up and called my credit card company.  How can these people be stopped?

I just received a call from "Central Periodical Services" stating my husband has a renewal coming up at midnight tonight for 5 years and that he signed up 30 months ago for 59.90. First off we never received any of the 7 yes seven subcriptions and i complained about that. She said she hears that a lot. When i asked for out money back, well that was a joke. So she said she had to transfer me to the automated system where i had to say yes or now to her questions. She said she would ask me to verify the charges but in such a way it sounded too fishy for me to agree to even be transfered. Then when i told her i worked at a major cell phone company in financial services and this didnt sound right she got a little bitchy. I said i dont go anything over the phone where someone calls me (scam comes to mind everytime the phone rings). While we were talking my cell phone notifaction went off for email alerting me to a charge on my bank account. They charged $5 while i was on the phone. So i told her i didnt authorize that and why is it on there. She said it is "pending" and will fall off. It was to verify the acct. well why not $1 like eveyone else?
Anyways we called out bank immediately and canceled his card and the charge and ordered a new card!
I am however glad they called and glad i answered!!

I also agreed to get magazines from Southwest Periodicals out of Arizona.  When I got a courtesy several months later, I requested the account be cancelled, but was informed that the 90 day cancellation period had passed and I had not choice but to receive the magazines and pay $29.90/month for a 30 months; totaling $897.  And then he hung up!
I cancelled my credit card authorization immediately.
I called again today and talked with Shavaughn (Shevan), who said she would make sure that it was cancelled and I would not receive any more magazines.
Let's hope that is the case.  I am following up with a letter and copying Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne as well.

Received a call from a company called Your Magazine Service about wanting to renew my magazine subscriptions which I fell for a two years ago (however, I do receive my magazines), but I said I would like to cancel my account. The lady I spoke with was named Penny Miller, a Manager of Accounts, and said she couldn't help me with my cancelation. She has to send me to another magazine company to take care of that.

I've been fooled in the past before with another company like this called Customer Renewal Service (CRS), but they also sent the magazines I wanted and transferred me to another company to settle my account. A few days later, I received a letter from CRS stating my account was paid in full and they never took money from my bank account again. Hopefully, Your Magazine Service does the same as CRS.

I got the call from 1-888-299-7302 said his name was Michael Stevenson with a customer service with Southwest Periodical Service SPS.  He talked fast and claimed he was going to help me cancel the magazine.  He claimed he was the middle man to cancel my sub with the magazine company and needed my card number for security reasons and it would help him cancel my account.

I end up with a $49.90 charge on my account and another 5 years subscription.  He also said that he would have to record our conversation to prove I wanted to cancel.  He told me before the recording which questions to say YES & NO to.  As he went on with these questions I could tell he was pulling a fast one.  Making me say what he wanted me to say for HIS benefit, not mine.

Like many of you here I got a fast talker, he tried to make it sound like he's helping me when in the end I could see (at least now) that he was manipulating me to giving him my card info.

He even gave me the number of the publisher ( 1-888-247-1007).  Even gave me a cancelation number, but I doubt it is even effective.

I received a call from this number and was told my subscription would be automatically renewed if I did not record my answers to the following questions.  One of the questions was "do you agree to pay $59.90 for 30 months" and I refused to reply "yes". They got very rude and hang up.  I filed a complaint with the FTC and Better Business Bureau.

Just hang up with "Kevin Campbell" who gave me the 1-888-2997302 to call him back (I wanted to initiate the call). He almost got my credit card info in order to cancel a renewal for a subscription.
He called me from a different number 1-719-302-5853.

Easy.  Just call the credit card company, report a fraudulent charge, and you are not required to pay.  Many companies will require they cancel the old card and replace it with a new number.  This prevents repeated charges by the scammers.

It can be a small hassle to switch numbers if you have recurring payments going onto your card (cell phone, insurance, etc.), but not a big deal if you go online to each payee's site.

My details:  I had my card get 2 $29.95 charges 2 months ago after buy the Sticky Buddy lint roller.  This appears to be a common scam for those TV salesmen.  They sign you up for a "Free" Travel Discount club, then charge your card if you don't cancel.  Result:  2 reversed charges and a new card number.

Today, I received a call trying to renew my Better Homes and Gardens magazine subscripton:  30 months for $59.97.  I told them no, and they then said I needed to provide my credit card number, date of birth, and other information in order to cancel the upcoming renewal.  How many bells went off in my head that this was a phishing expedition, I really can't count!  Luckily, the partial card number they had was the canceled card, so I'm not worried.

BE WEARY OF ANYONE THAT ASKS FOR ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE OR INTERNET!!!!!!!!!  BE VERY SURE YOU KNOW WHO THEY ARE AND THAT THEY REALLY NEED THE INFO!

Received a call from these people and they were insistent that they would charge me for magazines and if I tried to block them they would take legal action against me.
First, I NEVER subscribe to magazines - the clutter up the house and I never read them so I don't buy them by subscription or at a store.
Second, they gave me the last 4 digits of the credit card that I had authorized them to use, and I DON"T have a credit card with a number like that.

The first contact and his supervisor both refused to cancel anything!

I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT AGAINST THEM WITH THE FTC (FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION) .The FTC said that if they get enough complaints against a company they take action.... so, call the FTC and file your complaints!!  The FTC phone number is;
877-382-4357.

I signed up for magazines 8 years ago as a stupid college stident and have regreted it ever since. I still get trash magazines I don't want. This number is a scammer and I hope they don't get anyone else. 8 years ago I never even got the magazines they claimed I would get. They just stole my money and not send me things like people magazine every month. Hang-up and refuse to talk to them. They will do what they want reguardless of what you say.

I just got a call from these people as well. I instantly knew they were those magazine scammers. Told me my account was "open" even though I told them all of it was cancelled years ago. So be careful. Luckily they had my old address so its not a big deal to me. She said shes from the Virginia Renewal Service but there is so such magazine company. Just a heads up for you guys.

Scam.  Man named J. Edwards, saying was supervisor, left me this number as a customer care call back #.  He and his worker were doing courtesy calls to make sure magazines (I supposedly ordered) were being received.  Spoke VERY fast... but I caught he wanted me to agree to a monthly 59.90 charge.  No way!  BUT I determined he somehow got my info from Magazine.Com.

I ask what company did they get the last four numbers from and they could not tell me.  So I hung up.  I call my card company and they knew nothing of what is going on.  I called the number back and the lady did know what it was all about.
