I just received the exact same call. And the number was my own number too!
i just got a call when I looked at the number it was my own number. I answered and the person said I had a computer problem they could fix. We asked who are you and told them we would call them back if they gave us there number .they gave us the 888-299 -7652 and said they were with Voltec llc then the person said they were from Tech windows and they were the only ones who could fix our problem. I got off phone and looked up number. It is a scam big time.
This is the second type of phone calls I have received. The first time, I was a real sucker for this call from HP People saying that they had been receiving hundreds of error messages from my computer. So, of course, as luck would have it, my home computer had been very slow and I was almost certain that there was a problem. But when the phone rang, I didn't realize that this was a scam. The person said there was something wrong with my computer, that He was from HP and they had been receiving messages that there was an issue and that He could fix it. Well, as I was taking this seriously, I got onto the computer, let the person get into my computer, paid the price of $179. for the "fix" , as soon as I got off the phone, my common sense kicked in. I watched in absolute horror, the guy did download some cleaner program, I watched as the computer ran through a quick scan then He logged off the computer, I immediately called my C/C co. to talk with an "incident specialist" who said the charge was pending. He didn't want the phone no.that was on my caller ID. He would look into the issue. By the way, before I was refered to this person, the gal from the C/C Co had already cancelled my card and was going to send another one out within 5-7 days. The so-called specialist never put in an incident report. I had to argue the charge for a 2nd time. Now, I have been getting calls from 1-888-299-7652 same thing. they keep calling my phone 2-3 x a day.
They said that they are QUICKEN but since they I let them, my computer has a lot of pop ups and I cannot even use it properly. My wife said it's contaminated.
