They called my parents looking for me.. I have not lived at home in 10 years and have not used that number in prob. 20 years.  I have NO idea what this "debt" is..I'm calling now...

Repeated calls from this number ... no message.  Because of how many fraud / scam alerts, I will not answer a call from an unrecognized number.  

They cannot threaten you.  Record their calls.  Then sue the hell out of them!

I just received call from ARS's (re ext.1261) asking to call back without identifying the nature of business. She sounded firm and professional, but also fake, which indicates to me a collection intent. I think the name ARS was selected on purpose to sound similar to IRS.

That reminded me about 2 unrelated collection agencies calling me for 3 years after I got a "new" phone number from my local telco. Apparently, the number belonged few month ago to somebody they were trying to collect from.  I am not proud of it but the only way I stopped 3-year long abuse was that I cursed off their supervisor in the most vivid language I was capable of.

This Company is a scam.  I was called from this number and have reported them to the Federal Trade Commission.  They are undercover and full of tricks.  A lawsuit is underway.  Let's all get a CLASS ACTION  TOGETHER!!!.don't talk to them.  Call the Consumer lawyers and let them know who they are.  HOPE THIS HELPS

Pete called me looking for someone at my number when I told him that no one by that name lived there he became rude and threatening.  I did ask that I be remove form the call list it did take a few weeks to get the calls to stop.  What is the do not call list for.

IANAL but "dangerously close to practicing without a license (even with your clarification)" presumes that Ron's comment on 800notes constitutes "practicing without a license." Helping someone out with a letter is hardly "practicing without a license" IMO but then again, IANAL.

I had received calls from this number before. I had also received letters from ARS and other collection agencies referencing the same account and offering the same settlement. I also still receive bills from the original creditor. Most of these collection agencies will take your settlement payment, and then sell your debt to another agency, and then you get calls and letters stating that you owe the original debt to them. While I understand that it is common practice for creditors to "sell" their accounts receivables (debts), it should also be common practice for the original creditors to notify the debtor when a debt is sold. When I get calls and letters from multiple collection agencies, as well as the original creditors, I contact ONLY THE ORIGINAL CREDITOR(S) and if they refuse to deal with me, then I don't deal with anyone else. Very often, all I will be told by the original creditor is the debt was sold, and they would refuse to tell me the terms of the sale of the debt.Their loss.

Got a call from this number, the caller ID showed a local cell phone company with a local number and I didnt answer (long story but a business number is mis-printed as mine in the phone book so I never answer unless I know who it is) but anyhow they left a message with this phone number.  Come to find out that it is a collection agency looking for a relative.

Not sure faking an incoming call is legal for a debt collector to do.

call a number that is being disconected and record on your VOICE MESSAGE the sound that your number has being disconected. peep, peep, peep, the number you have has being disconected, no futher information is available ...beep, beep, beep.

And you will see that they will stop in about a day or two.

Then once that company stop calling in, you go back to recordign your personal voice mesage. MAKE SURE all the call you dont know go to VM.

Someone from this number keeps harrassing my 83 yo mother about 3 people she doesn't know.  How to make it stop.  This is elder abuse.  I think she is getting calls from multiple companies,

I just received a phone call by the same person. He asked for an alternate number to contact me and insisted the matter was urgent. I have no accounts pending with any business. Sketchy.

These jerks have been calling me for a year looking for somebody I don't even know.  I've told them over and over that I don't know them.  Now they are leaving threatening messages.  Nobody leaves me a message like that and ends it with "YOU NEED TO CALL ME". I don't NEED to call anybody!!   I called them back today and told them if I received another phone call from them, I was taking that last message they left on my answering machine to my lawyer.  I recently filed a complaint on the Do Not Call Registry however, I don't know if they handle those types of calls or not.

8/24/09.  I keep getting calls for a Marcos Stephanopolis.  A message was left yesterday evening by a Elizabeth Valasquez @ 888-319-0986 referencing a file #17602756 requesting a call back.

I called the number noted and advised that our telephone conversation would be recorded.  I once again re-iterated, as I have in the past that NO ONE by the name they are referencing has ever lived at my residence with my home phone number.  I asked if this was another collection call for this person.  She stated, "what makes you think this is a collection call'?.  I told her that Bank of America had a collections affiliate that was verified and calling my home all the time looking for this person.  I thought it had stopped, but now you are calling me!  I requested that she take my home phone number off of her list.  She agreed to do it.

What good is the 'DO NOT CALL' list if no one abides by it!

These ppl called my husbands aunt that I don't even have her number for looking for me WTF?

I had "settled" with them for $2,000 on a balance that was for $6,500 on a Bank of America Visa card. I had lost my job so I jumped at the opprotunity. I wrote them a check for $2,000 and it was cleared into their account about 2 weeks later. 4 months after that I get a call and a letter from another agency with the same account with the same offer. I told them I settled with ARS and the new company told them they sold the account to them and ARS wasn't responsible for it anymore. That was about 2 years ago. So..no, it doesn't work

Be careful with your post.  I'm not trying to be a jerk, but asking people to contact you in this manner is dangerously close to practicing without a license (even with your clarification).

They've been calling me for a while but I sent them a certified letter, return receipt which they signed and was returned to me.......NOW they are calling using a local front number so it looks like a local cell number in my area code. They have NO shame. The message they leave is for the 888 319-0986. I no longer answer my phone but let everything go to voice mail.

They call from (857)598-4864, and ask to call back 888-319-0986, never leave a name or company info or anything! Am I supposed to just call back an 888# and have NO IDEA who/why I'm calling?

Theyhave called us. We explained sometime ago that our situation was not good. Between my injury and needing surgery, followed by a second one and now another. My husband laid off, recalled to work p/t. Now he is out of work as he was diagnosed with lung cancer and is physically exhausted. The calls continue despite the fact we do not answer out phone as we have already told everyone we may have owed money to that we cannot do anything at this time. Now Linda from 888-319-0986 x 1182 calls my sons house and tells his wife that we owe money to them and have not paid them. Please give them my number and have them call me. They do not get the message and discussing our business with others.
I do believe that is illegal.
