I got the same type of call, but from the number: 877-421-9802 with caller ID "D. Lowery".  I did not pick up, "Jennifer" left a message.  There was no company name offered, just that I was a finalist to win.  Finalists were chosen due to being a "qualifying demographic"!

Which I take to probably mean - "senior citizen" and hopefully gullible.

Will be reporting this to FCC and my state's attorney general.

I am truly inclined to believe this a phishing call.  It is just plain not specific enough to be a legitimate offer.

We got the makeover call just half an hour ago, but the message was distorted and I did not clearly get the callback number - though it was different than THIS number which called us.

Interesting thing is that my wife DID enter a drawing back in June in a major hardware store, but they would call with clear and specific information and this call was not specific.  If it is real, they will call back, if it is phishing they may call back anyway...

If you ever pick up one of these calls, make sure that THEY identify YOU - do not offer identifying information, make them give you the information.  If legitimate they will know exactly where and how your name got into their drawing list - if not then it is phishing and you are the prey.

Like many others here we are on the National Do Not Call list - that list is not a scam, but...  If you ever did enter something like this you implicitly agreed to accept their call for notification.  Unfortunately DNC does not apply the law makers or campaigners - how often to laws NOT apply to lawmakers.  Sadly, though you may have agreed to some clause in the privacy policy for your bank or credit card or some other legitimate business which gave others the right to contact you - watch these things carefully.

Cindy from the "National Verification Center" called and said we'd entered a contest for a free home makeover worth 50K.  She left a callback number of 888-303-0232 which appears multiple times as a scam also.

We are on DNC and never enter those contests... never called us by name.

Did you also get notified that this is sponsored by Direct Buy and that you also won a cruise, or 2 round trip air tickets AND a $100 Restaurant.com gift card?  Then they wanted to set up a time for you to go into a Direct Buy location for a small presentation?

Same sad story here.  "Cindy" from the Verification Center left a message to call 888-303-0232 ext696.  Last night my name was drawn for a $50,000 home makeover. Supposedly I'd entered a contest at the mall, at a theater or online sometime in the past 12 months.  Cindy did not mention my name or exactly where my name had been submitted for this contest.  Obviously a phishing expedition. She'll be waiting a looong time before I call her back.

This is for Direct Buy. If you go to the internet and search on "Direct Buy scam" you could spend the rest of the day reading reasons to not even consider calling the # back.

yeah, they left a message for me too. and im on the do not call list. I feel bad for the employee but at the same time they knew what kind of an annoyance telemarketers are. These companies can be fined for calling people on the do not call list. Im going to report them.

I'm Tied of these BS Calls!  It's time to let the FCC react and do their job!!

http://www.fcc.gov/guides/unwanted-telephone-marketing-calls

Some states permit you to file law suits in state court against persons or entities violating the do-not-call rules. You may be awarded $500 in damages or actual monetary loss, whichever is greater. The amount may be tripled if you are able to show that the caller violated the rules willfully and knowingly. Filing a complaint with the FCC does not prevent you from also bringing a suit in state court.

Please fill out and report these annoying SOB'S
