Answer the call then ask their name buisness name and address as well as email address then tell them since they do record all calls that you are sending them a registered letter and an email stating that you want no more phone calls and to only converse by mail that you are sending a cease and desist notice that they are ONLY ALLOWED TO CONTACT YOU THROUGH THE MAIL..NOW BEFORE YOU GET OFF THE PHONE ASK THEM WHO YOU SHOULD ADDRESS THE EMAIL TO (NOT THAT IT MATTERS) Then tell them that until you have in writing a copy of your contract and date of last transaction and proof that they have the right to go after you there will be no response from you.NEVER ADMIT ANYTHING UNTIL THEY GIVE YOU ALL THE DOCUMENTS YOU ASKED FOR. tHEN HANG UP AND SEND SAID EMAIL cEASE AND DESIST ON ALL CALLS HOME AND OFFICE AND FAMILY.tOU WILL NOT BE BOTHERED  AFTER THAT    ,. nOW THEY ARE BREAKING THE LAW IF THEY CALL YOU AGAIN.

Gosh! Everyone is so ridiculous!
If you think you are being scammed, you can call your Bank, the Better Business Bureau, or even look into your Credit File Report. These are all very simple things to do.

CBV Collection Services is not a scamming company. They are a third party collection agency. Call BC Hydro, call Telus, call MSP. THEY KNOW WHO CBV COLLECTIONS ARE!
It is a legit company.
If you are not owing any debt and you are 100% sure of this, then you have no reason to be rude to collection officers (it's a job you guys!!!). You can politely ask them to stop calling you after you have verified and made sure that the file in front of their face is not yours.

Anyway, reading all these old posts annoyed me and I had to respond.
I feel like everyone needs to work for a collection agency for them to fully understand. Because everyone acts so ignorant when it comes to collections. It's not the collection officer'c fault you're in debt. So bloody-well pay it off and then the damn phone calls will stop.
Anyway...I'm done my rant. Collection Agency's are not the bad people, as annoying as they may be, but it's your own responsibility to pay for YOUR debt.
Good Luck!

By Anonymous now : I understand that old debts settled through the courts are being sold to a collection agency at a discount. these collection agencies do not care about court rulings and will pursue and pester you with calls and demands hoping you will pay. They work on percentages. If they bought the debt at 20% cost their target is to collect over 20% of accounts. They make a fortune. All banks sell debts to these vulture venture collection agencies. 18883261036

This number is CBV Collection Agency. This is a company that purchases old retired debts. They will try and see if you are sucker enough to pay up if they keep calling you. If a debt was not paid or collected in a five year period the debt is retired and can no longer be collected.

I bought a brand new pay-as-you-go phone and I'm pretty sure I got a recycled number (and the person who had my number before me owed a lot of money to a lot of people!).  I received several calls from this number.  It is CBV Collections.  I called their main line back (toll free) at 1-888-311-1121.  I explained my situation to the receptionist who connected me to a  manager/supervisor.  When I explained it to him, he took my number off their system right away.  He was very polite and helpful.  Haven't gotten a call since.  Wish I had called sooner, if I only knew how quick and easy it would be to get them to remove the number!  I thought it would be a fight, but he was very friendly.

I have a brand new phone number on a pre-paid phone and haven't given it out to anyone. The only people who know my number are myself and the phone company. I have gotten several calls, twice a day, from either an 855-272-XXXX number or this 888-326-1036 number but have not answered any of the calls as I pay by the minute. I have never taken a loan out for anything in my entire life; I have never taken out a student loan, I have never financed anything, and I have never owned a house or car.  There is no reason to be getting debt collector calls, or any calls for that matter as no one should have this number. I have two guesses: the phone company sold out my number and this is a phishing scam, or the last person who had this number had bad debt and changed their number and now I'm getting the calls.  The other 855-272-xxxx numbers are also debt collectors, apparently for RBC.  This is ridiculously annoying.  I'm afraid to answer because that seems to make them call more often, and I'm not paying for that.  Everyone who owes money says "this isn't so-and-so's number, I'm not that person!" in hopes that the debt collector will stop calling, but they never do.  If it is a phishing scam, they're just calling to find out when you're available to answer your phone so that a real person can call and try to scam you.  My only solution so far is to just not answer when an (855) or (888) number calls.

According to Office of Consumer Affairs (OCA),
?You must be notified in writing that your file has been given to a collection agency (this is the law).
Check this out at: http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/oca-bc.nsf/eng/h_ca02149.html

Your rights according to the Ontario Ministry of Consumer Services:
The first step a collection agency must take is to send you a written notice through the mail (email doesn?t count). This notice must include:
?the name of the creditor (the person or business that says you owe them money)
?the amount the creditor says you owe
?the name of the collection agency and its authority to demand payment on behalf of the creditor.

After sending the notice, the agency must wait six days before it can contact you in person or by phone.
This means if you did not get a written notice from a collection agency then they cannot call you.  This information is available at Ontario Ministry of Consumer Service's website under
http://www.sse.gov.on.ca/mcs/en/Pages/Persona ... ncy_Rights.aspx

My suggestion is:
1. Never give any person info to a collection agency or anyone you don't know over the phone.
2. File a complaint with Consumers Bureau of Canada (or with your provincial Consumer Services).
3. Notify the police regarding harassment (tell police your rights according to Ontario Ministry of Consumer Service's website).
4. Educate others by posting this info online (here and other websites).

Good luck!

I borrowed a PayDay Loan from Money Money, and recently got laid off. I called them back to inform them and they insist me pay them back asap or legal options will be assured. I told them I can not pay them back. Then they go on with how do you pay rent and mortgages? I don't, I own a house. Those buggers wont now stop calling. Oh well guess Ill just have to change my cell phone number. PayDay loan was in Calgary, AB and I now live in California, so impossible they get me now especially in another Country.

So What I do and move else where.

I can't get these bloodsuckers off of my back, and they are calling people with my last name?? even my ex-wife and it is not a common name!! Oh I've tried!! but that just makes it worst, Threating!! are they, you better believe it!! What I found out it's a robo dialing system, do not p/u, they use multiple out going numbers, which they change methodically. Harrasement!! you better believe it!!! They even went so far as to threating my elderly father, who by the way "takes a lot of effort to get to the phone" If they were legit in their measures, they would not harrass the person, just set a court date!! in writing! (ahh!! but that would cost them money!!) Does Tblank use them "YES!!", I found out that the banks sell the info off to them, they will take a chunk of payment made? Worst of all I've made my payments years ago in a wheelchair in the flipping snow!! that's right I'm handycapped (legitimately), but I am still on their wanted list??? Boo Hoo Hoo to me right!? They couldn't care a less!! Money talk's B.S. walk's is their motto.
(an interesting note, if I may, some of the call's are not from Canada! uh uhh!! ???) good job at outsourcing to a foreign country, I beg to ask the question, what wages are they making in comparison to a "North American employee's" ?  I'll bet "dimes to donuts it ain't much!!
Thank you for listening people out there in cyberland (oh and for CBV "have a nice day" !! I'm sure we'll be in touch).

Calling all times of the day and night, and to boot calling members of my family and people with the same name???
Tried calling them back, can't give me a straight answer, even if you do get a live person?? Not, your just put into the key rotation. Tried reasoning with them! forget it!! I paid off my bill at my bank!! Try getting to a bank in a wheel chair in the winter. Nice job they have!!!
Harrasment "BIG TIME" !!! I found out they put a large intrest rate on the bill, therefore now I have to pay that?? I hope they like their job, technically if it was me, as a human being I would not be that desperate to take a job like that!!!
Conclusion = They couldn't care what so ever!!! Can anyone say commision?

Second time they have called, left no message.  I called back both times telling them no such person here, don't know that person etc etc etc.
Contacted consumer protection today.  They opened a file and gave me a number to contact to CBV management to make sure my number is removed.
We'll see!

Got a call from 1.888.326.1036 who claimed they were from Telus and asked for someone who doesn't live here and said that that person  had given my phone number as a contact, then proceeded to pump me for information, which I did not supply. After a little research i discovered that they were not from Telus at all. They are a collection agency. I called them the next day and gave them an ear full and threatened legal action then hung up. What a bunch of skunks!!

Well said!!
My friend Silly (that's what you posted?)
They are nothing but volurtures (SP?)
Right then, yes by law they have to notify you in writing!, that is the law!!
I've been dealing with these idiot's for years, for a bill that has been paid!! many years ago. We are a data base for entrapment, they buy our information on past due accounts, from guess who! Our Canadian banks!!!!, they don't want to spend their money on tracking down an account that is overdue!! B.S. it's a cheap way of writing it off, even though their accounts are in-accurate. It is a commision based statragy, Most people will cave in, and make double payments!!
By Law they can not solicit an underwriter to seek you out and demaned payment for a bill that is overdue, which has been paid!!!!
It's all numbers!! my friend! Fear is a determent, they execpt you will cave, just to get them off your back. But if your right and true, and can prove it, say you want a court day, and are seeking and have estabished a corporate Lawyer! and all your expensive's. Done deal! They will not mess with you again, and by God counter sue!
If you are Guilty, then it becomes a whole different ballgame!!

I received a call to my Cell Phone today from 888-326-1036.

The automated message first answered to say "This is an important business message please hold the line while your call is being connected."

After which a man came on the phone and asked for a man's name which sounded a lot like "Martin Francis" or something similar.  when I said "he was not here" ... "and that he was connected to my # which he confirmed he was trying to connect to.  I went on to explain that it was a personal cell phone he sounded as though he was "shocked" but unconvincingly.  So I told him I didn't know the person he was looking for and this is my personal cell phone so he's got a wrong # and hung up.  ....

I do not know what this company is about; but I received a second call from the same number today but missed the call; and then about 3 hours later I just got a call from the auto dialer with the same opening "This is an important business message please hold the line while your call is being connected." I hung up on 866-387-8751.

It seams I am getting phone spam from people who know my number and don't care they're just harassing me wasting my time and ringing up my bill.
