So, I used to sell the Nbla plan along with multiple other limited benefit plans. They all have approved well rated A.M. Best underwriters that cut checks daily for the benefit arrangements stated in the program guides.  These plans are a lifesaver to people with preexisting  conditions  who cannot afford or obtain  Major Medical plans. Otherwise you would pay 100 percent of all you owe. WITHOUT ANY HELP!  AND NOT AT THE PPO RATE. Which makes you automatically owe 40 percent more, and NOTHING PAID. PEOPLe should read the simple instructions that come with these memberships available as part of a reputable association.Anyone pay dues for AARP? SAME THING! OR you can listen to idiots that do not read it, then complain. It's that simple. And I am a licensed agent, I sell BCBS, AETNA,CIGNA, and other well known carriers.. so all this is not true about just telemarketers, but sometimes can be confused with discount plans with no benefits or underwriting... So choose wisely...

Now I am confused.  Not sure what the # was but I signed up for this in dec. 2011.  Have been to the doctor twice and had blood work both times, so far seems to be paid.  I have gotten my meds at Walmart 5 times and they have always been paid.  everything is taken care of by the doctor and pharmacy, I send in nothing.
I hope it does not come back to bite me as this I can afford and so far like.  I live in GA.

Here is the big disconnect the people that are trying to sell you the policy are not insurance agents nor do they really work for the insurance company, they are a contracted out telemarketer. The people on the phones are pressured to make sells and most don't even know what they are selling, not to mention get monetary rewards for selling. This leads to the telemarketer bending the truth on what they think they know which honestly in my experience not very much at all(little training, little medical knowledge). Some might totally be misleading while completely telling the truth/going by the script. Now if the insurance company knows this is happening is totally up in the air. They might not care that  the policy is being misrepresented(for obvious reasons) or they might push the sales companies hard for sales, then the boss's are forced to push the people to keep their jobs which leads to bending of the truth.

One thing is for sure, the way the system is set up 90% of the people don't really understand what they are getting themselves into. This usually is a combination of agents/sellspeople bending the truth(Or strait lying, ?80/20 plan anyone?) and a general lack of knowledge in the medical industry and how it works. Especially limited med

In my honest opinion if you cannot get major medical(through your employer) you are usually better off saving the premiums you would pay and putting it toward a savings account. If you are stuck with a huge medical bill most states are very lenient on medical bankrupsey.

A health insurance plan that geniunly protects you from possible medical bankrupsey is way to expensive for most people not to mention only pay out average 80% of premiums from members back into payments. 20% of your premium you pay doesn't even go into your risk aversion it goes to profit and overhead.

TLDR  If you don't have employer sponsored health coverage you are mostly screwed.

Ohh and even if you do manage to get the Department of insurance to shut them down. THEY WILL MAKE A NEW COMPANY WITH A DIFFERENT NAME AND SELL THE SAME POLICY'S IN THE SAME STATES IN THE SAME WAYS.

If this is such a great company dumba** then why is the Georgia Insurance Commissioner taking them to court for me and alot of other people that they lied to about there sorry a** insurance. Promise you the world and then when the bills go in they pay nothing, tell you all they do is talk with the doctors and try to get the bills lowered, you can do that without paying a fraudulent insurance company. All you pay for is them to have a job, because they do nothing for you. So don't tell people these people are doing a great job, and I am with the other person. You must work for them to say what you say. If you want to find out what kind of company they really are call the Insurance Commissioner OF Georgia and ask them, before you make a big mistake of giving this company any money. No body deserves what this company does to people.

This has been a joke.  Mid year last year the company "changed hands" and we were back to step 1 with no copay.  Meds that my husband need were NOT covered and still cost over $100 for a vial..The stuff they had covered as preexisting was no longer covered.  I call for replacement cards and got no answer.  I have called for severa; days now to drop this policy as we have new insurance now and get no answer.  Now have to go through a hassle with bank to get the card changed...Not worth it they don't stand by what they saw.

As several of you have already written, - this is a legitimate company, and it covers "limited medical" which it clearly states.  After you sign up- you receive a complete package!  YES- a Complete package and all any of you have to do is READ IT.  You all complain that it is not what you thought it was,... but did any of you actually read your package when you received it??  That must be a NO!- because if you actually read the package you would know what it coves and what it does not.  You have 30 days (actually with the mailing and such,.... you have up to 35 days) to thoroughly read through the material to see if this is the coveage and membership you want.  Then- it clearly gives you a `1-888 number to call to discuss any questions you may have with a Customer Service person.  If then you find out it is not for you,... you just fax over your request to cancel.  YES- it may take you 10-25 days to get your refund,... but it is like that with almost anything your purchase.  IT took me 60 days to get a refund back from Blue Cross!  (and yes,.. I had to call and call).  I think what happens is, you all hear what you want to hear,... or is that what they call Selective Hearing????  Most of the people that sign up for this membership, either have a problem getting any type of health coverage at all, or can not go through the appropriate route to get any.  This is just an option- your choice.
STOP blaming others for your misunderstanding of the benefits, ... and for your inability to be able to actually READ the terms when you received your package.
I have had this membership for quite sometime and am happy with it.

Oh my goodness!!! A person that KNOWS to read the fine print!!! The website (I say again) CLEARLY lists all the limitations and Exclusions (as MANDATED by Federal Law) for all the Insurance Benefits. SO tired of people assuming they know what the hell they're talking about.Geez! Find something better to do, people! These same Limitations and Exclusions are CLEARLY provided in your membership materials. Here's a suggestion: get off your personal pity party and take the time to read all of the website www.mynbla.com. And FYI, the Insurance Trade Commission prevents random emails from being sent out from the different brokers in order to AVOID misrepresentation. Any dummy can say whatever in an email to make it look good. READ THE FINE PRINT. It isn't rocket science, people.

If you will notice on the NBLA website, under the Limitations and Exclusions portion of the website, it clearly says (and this is a copy and paste DIRECTLY from the website)

Pre-existing Condition Limitation
There is no coverage for a pre-existing condition for a continuous period of 12 months following the effective date of coverage under this Policy.
This limitation does not apply to:
? genetic information in the absence of a diagnosis of the condition related to such information;
? a newborn child who is enrolled in the plan within 31 days after birth; nor to a child who is adopted or placed for adoption before attaining 18 years of age; and as of the last day of the 31-day period beginning on the date of birth, adoption or placement for adoption, is covered under creditable coverage;
? pregnancy; and
? an individual, and any dependent of such individual, who is eligible for a federal tax credit under the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance Reform Act of 2002 and who has three months or more of creditable coverage.
In determining whether a pre-existing condition limitation applies, we will credit the time the covered person was previously covered under creditable coverage, if the previous creditable coverage was
Creditable coverage includes (a) a group health plan; (b) health coverage; (c) Part A or Part B of title XVIII of the Social Security Act; (d) Title XIX of the Social Security Act, other than coverage consisting solely of benefits under section 1928; (e) Chapter 55 of title 10, United States Code; (f) a medical care program of the Indian Health Service or of a tribal organization; (g) a state health benefits risk pool; (h) a health plan offered under chapter 89 of title 5, United States Code; (i) a public health plan, including health coverage provided under a plan established or maintained by a foreign country or political subdivision (as defined in regulations); (j) a health plan under section 5(e) of the Peace Corps Act (22 U.S.C. 2504(e)) and coverage under S-CHIP.

Well I think NBLA is a great health insurance plan.. I was turned down by several companies due to pre exisiting conditions.. And feel I was sent a blessing when I got the call saying I was approved.. Ive been a member for over 6 years my doctors visits have been fully covered and I had very little out of pocket costs when I was in the hospital for over a month..I for one would like to say Thank you NBLA

I got my credit card co. to get rid of the 309.00 sign up fee.  They still don't know I've blocked them from anything else.  The old saying of If it sounds too good to be true, blah, blah, blah.  I haven't called them to tell them I've "cancelled" my wonderful new insurance.  Only 199.00 a month.  I feel like such a dope......Good luck to you and everyone else who has gotten stung.  I can't believe those people can sleep at night.  They have to be taken down some how.  I assume this is Fraud of some kind.  Idiots.....

Hi,  I just called and cancelled my plan.  After I read some postings here, I called and canceled rights away.  Like you said, it took them a few hours to take the money but 30 days to refund the initial payment minus enrollment fee.  I haven't even started my plan yet but they still "stole" the enrollment fee.  I'm hoping to get my money back and I already cancel my credit card plus dispute on the charge in case they didn't refund it. Please let ne know your outcome. Thanks

Telemarketer
Just got a call from these people the number they are using now is 4232790698.
I think it is odd that they want you to give them $384 over
the phone with out any sort of material to look at.
Seems like a scam to me. For people with pre exsisting conditions
I would look into the PCIP (pre exsisting condition insurance program)
in your area (all states have a program). For more info on PCIP go to pcip.gov I just got approved
its a major medical 80/20  plan, and about $150 cheaper than the
NBLA (scam in my book) that this Steph person just tried to sell me.
For those with pre exsisting conditions PCIP is legit check it out
before you sign up for this NBLA scam where they wont even send you
any info before you sign up.

As a member with nbla i can tell there is no waiting period on pre exiting conditions if you can provide proof of continuse coverage for the past 12 months that has not been lapsed within the last 63 days and is considered as creditable coverage. (group policy, etc.. you will have full insurance benifets as stated in your policy or on the web site from day 1 as long as you provide your certificate of creditable coverage. it clearly states that in the disclosures and limitation on the website under the insurance benifets. It is a real company and it is an alternative affordable health care. that provides and pays for the benifits that is listed always ask a company for a website to show you the plans and check with www.bbb.org look up national better living association. spelled out completely. Look at how long they have been in business versus the amount of complaints. Every business has complaints no matter what, look up bcbs complaints. who uses walmart to do their shopping? hhmm, does walmart have complaints?

I am glad to see a positive remark, I just signed up a few days ago as we lost our major medical coverage and could not afford COBRA. I have talked to so many different companies and was hoping I made the right decision as my husband has a pre-existing condition too.

They called me and I know that I never heard of NBLA... and for them to say it was about an application that I filled out; now I know that's a scam. They keep telling me about a deadline but they keep calling, " I already have insurance and I don't pay anything for it " I love my Medicare and sure won't trade it for NBLA...... A SCAM; I tell you!
