I got a call from this number and the girl on the line said she was from the census bureau and wanted to verify my address.  I did not give it to her because it just felt "fishy" to me.  I don't know who it was in reality but I contacted the census bureau and am waiting to hear back.

I got the same call, and they wanted to verify the location of my house. As much as i don't normally like to do that, I felt that it was a legit call and seemed that with having a new neighborhood they were not sure of the collection block (not sure what that is).  I don't think it's a problem to provide that information to them. Even though I feel there may have been another way (can't think of one right now), it seems like just a helpful call to get the correct information.

I got a couple calls from this number, a lady mentioned that it was from the census, asked me my address, supposedly to confirm the information I submitted in the census form, I told her that I would confirm or correct the information she should have in the form, she said she didn't have it and wanted me to say my address, I told her I was not going to do it and she told me to call the same # to provide my info. I googled the phone number and it's not related or linked on any government page. Do not give out your info, if they want to confirm your address ask them to send you a person with the right forms and the proper identification to your house, just think about it, if you filled out the census form and you put the address and your phone number, why would they be trying to confirm that if they took your phone number from that form?????

Sounds fishy from others' comments.  Number showed as a missed call on my cell, no voice mail.  I would think if it were really the Census Bureau and they had a legit reason to contact you, they would leave a message.

I called this number back. It says it is from the United States Census Bureau in Jeffersonville, IN. to verify the info on your census.  (I don't know why they called me.  I have a PO box also, and I even mailed in a form I got at the library, but they STILL sent someone to my house.)  Anyway, they said I might be contacted again, but if not, there is no further action required and at the tone, I could leave a message.

Ironic you should say that about scams, because you fell for one.  If you have a PO box, they send someone to your house.  I know because I also have a PO box address, and a worker visited me.

I got the same call & it's legit.

yup it's the census bureau - i did my form with them over my cell phone and they called that phone.  i left them a message, thanks to these comments, and they  probably won't call me again.

I received a call from this number today and spoke with a 2010 Census rep. I asked her why she needed to confirm my info when I printed it clearly. I also said I felt uncomfortable giving any personal info over the phone. She got huffy, threatened that I wouldn't be counted, and hung. Rude.

Yep, it is the census bureau.  I'm in a new subdivision and they can't find me.  Afterall, it is the government!

This number is the census bureau. If you are receiving this call it is because you gave them your phone number when you completed the census. In my case, there was no place to put my physical address and the census was mailed to my po box. They needed to verify my physical address which is something I wanted to do when I completed the census but did it over the phone instead. It's scary in this day of scams but this is the census bureau.

I received a call from this number asking to verify my address for the Census Bureau. I asked her what she had as my address and she couldn't give that information out over phone, so I kindly gave she the same response. I told them they could send someone to my house with proper ID's and I would help them out.

I called the number back and an automated voice told it is from the Indiana center

Got the same call ...gave my address and explained her the location
