My mom also received a call from this number: 888-597-7639 and I panicked and paid it for her on my debit card!  I am usually a very suspicious sceptic, but I didn't want to see my elderly mom in court.  After many phone calls and much research, I realize that I was seriously scammed!  I have contacted my bank and am disputing the charge.  I am taking a copy of your post to the bank with me for further proof and am reporting this to the Attorney General.  I hope that the bank further investigates this claim.  Thank you.

My wife and I have received two calls within the last week from National Capital Management but the return number was different:  888-597-7639.  Same lines:  Legal papers for our son (who has never lived within two hundred miles of us for over 8 years).  My wife, a retired CLA (certified legal assistant), got on the phone and started questioning the caller (Mark) who refused any info and became defensive and hung up on her.  This is a rip-off company and we need to take them out of business.  I have written to the Attorney General of my state and forwarded a copy to the California Attorney General.  Maybe if everyone writes then something will be done, officially.  Thank you.

I got a call from National Capital Management but the number was 1-888-502-1310. They called my wife's cell phone asking for me and then hung up abruptly. Then they called my mother and said if I didn't call them they were going to come to my work and serve me papers. I don't even have anything that I can be sued for!

I had numerous calls from relatives today that this person was calling saying that they were trying to serve me with papers. Then they called my cell phone and said he was calling from the Sheriffs office and to call this number . So I called and then they hit me up for something they said I owed from back in 2001. I told them I could make arrangements but could not pay today. They said they would serve the papers and garnish my wages. I told him to do what he needed because I had no money. I called the Sheriffs office to see if they were trying to serve me with papers and they told me they had no way of looking it up. But it makes me very mad that they were calling all of my family members and making me look like a criminal. What can I do the Sheriffs office did not act as if they cared that someone was representing themselves as a police officer.

I got a call from these people last week. The man on the phone (Greg) said that I was part of a lawsuit associated with a bank account that I had been a signatory on. They had some true information but none of the rest made any sense. I called the bank from over 8 years ago (where they claimed the debt had been owed) and they verified that no such loan existed and that the account had been closed in good standing. I called the guy back from the 800 number and he said their systems were down but that they could work out a deal and let me pay only part of the amount owed. I questioned how as process servers they could make legal payment arrangements and they didn't have an answer. Basically, they dodged questions the whole time and then threatened to pursue litigation. It was a very surreal experience.

Just got a voicemail from these people. They left a generic name similar to those listed in others' comments here. The information was so vague I was suspicious. I called the number only to see what company they were and they didn't even answer with a company name. I refused to give them any information or even repeat back the reference number they left. Going to report it... Beware. (And thanks to all who left comments before me so I could see clearly what was happening.)

Received a call from National Capital Management.  Said they were trying to serve me papers as well for old debts.  I received the call from a California number, looked on NCM website (they are located in North Carolina). I called the FTC... no record of them on file. The FTC gave me the number for the Better Business Bureau in both California and North Carolina. I called them both and neither one of the BBB had NCM as an accredited business.  Be careful with this company....

So do you work for these people or something?  A judgement does not stay on your report to 10 years.  And 2008 is 2 years ago.  A debt collector would not sue that soon.  They would still have hope that you might pay.  And 2008 was one of the worst years in the US economy.  So they would have tried harder.

This note is BS.  Probably from the jerk making the calls.

Get a real job.

I got a call from these people looking for my daughter saying they wanted to serve her papers for a civil suit.  I said with who?  And he told me he couldn't tell me.  I said you can call and identify that my daughter has a civil suit but can't tell me with who?  He said it was a courtesy call to tell me they were coming to serve papers.  I told him, no one is home, he confirmed an address of almost 6 years ago.  So I asked what county and he gave Harris.  The address is in Montgomery.  So I asked for the case number.  Well, Harris doesn't even have the kind of case number he gave me.  And in Texas they CAN NOT garnish wages for debt.  This is a debt collector.  I am going to have my daughter try and sue these stupid people.  The man calling was named Micheal Johnson.  (yea, sure) and he was with Process Certification.  He told me the name of the serving company was PDI.  No such name for either.  I googles.  And the call back number is one of those ones you can't trace back.  He told me the private investiator gave him the information he had.  I thought, wow, what a bad investigator.  I own property all you had to do was look me up and see my current address.

I too received a call and I wish I would of taken care of this before I was served with the summons and complaint because now I have a default judgment on my credit for the next 10 years . I thought this was a scam but this company actually did sue me for and old debt I had defaulted on back in 2008.

National Capital Management.  They told me they needed to settle a debt with me before I was served with lawsuit papers.  This was for an account I had to set aside while trying to find a job after being laid off.  I since then have been trying to play catch up.

"Mark", with "litigation" called my landlord and represented to her that he was from our county sheriff's department. Not sure if he actually said those words, but made her believe that some way.  He said he needed to find my husband so he could serve him some papers. She said she would call my husband and he gave her the "case number". When my husband called, the guy wasn't even looking for him, but his father instead.  My father in law called him and he said he wanted to settle the debt with him. My husband called him back and told him not to call our landlord again and not to call us.  He said he didn't call the landlord and then hung up on my husband. Need to catch these people, wish I knew what company he was with.
