Please do not follow Walter's bad example. The magic phrase is NOT ''take me off'' or "remove my name", but ''Add this number to your Do Not Call list''.

Your callers do not maintain this site or this web page. Your callers cannot magically determine which numbers should not be called based on anonymous comments. You cannot expect compliance with your orders until, if possible, you deliver them *directly* to your caller.

I also received call from NPTA last week, pledged to donate $45. After reading all your comments, realized this is a scam, I am not going to write the check.

They are crooked as hell. I used to work in their Lakeland office 3200 Flightline Dr in Lakeland FL from 2006-2007 getting $13/hour. They place never offered proper breaks, would make employees sign a list to use the bathroom, as an excuse to write up employees, and the managers would tell everyone to STAND UP in their seats and HAVE MORE ENERGY, all while the Management were all HIGH on COCAINE and energy drinks which gave them plenty of energy which is unfair. They would fire people for no reason and invent phony reasons for writeups, and fire top employees to make an "example" for others. They tell ALL their phone reps to talk in a "redneck voice" to get more donations. The management ran the place like a criminal organization, not like a law-enforcement based fundraiser. They eventually lowered their pay to less than $9 per hour. BTW, the reason BBB can't do anything is because they are listed as a "fundraiser" and not a business, that is how they get away with their tactics. DO NOT GIVE ANY MONEY TO THESE CRIMINALS

I too received this call and agreed to $25, then read this and sent back invoice without $ and requested name to be removed from their list...less than 1%, really??? Sucks!

Got a call from these people and I could hear all the other telemarketers in the back ground. I told them I would donate $10 and they asked for $15 and said I must send in money within 10 of receiving letter. I said I would and waited for the letter -----then I did my research. I can honestly tell you I feel like I spoke to SCAM-CITY.. They are set up by the AFL-CIO and donations are not tax deductible. They disclosed none of this . At least I made them waste the paper which I recycle as well as the postage.

I also pledge 25$ but after reading about all the complaints I'll follow their advice and abstain from aggravation.

Got a call from this organization today. Phone number doesn't show on my Caller ID, but rather appears as an Unknown Number. The male representative was very insistent, but I kept telling him that I never heard of the organization. What do they do? Where does the money go? If they're such a great organization, then why haven't I heard of them? It didn't take long for him to ang up on me. Good riddance!

Got the annual annoying call from NPTA and the sob story that they provide for families of fallen officers. They're always very pushy. When I did some research, found they did not respond to BBB for info so no rating there. That makes me suspicious so my donation form went into the trash.

If the caller does not tell you they are a paid solicited call your ag if they tell you what percentage goes to the charity which is normally 10 percent or less call you ag the corporate office number is 7023882999 and you should ask for Rick or Julie and explain if you can not speak with one of them you will call the attorney generals office in your state

Got one of the calls from the "National Police and Troopers Assn." today. They asked for me by name and then told me who they were. I told them that I never heard of them and was a retired law enforcement officer. They immediately hung up. It should work for anyone who is plagued by these phoney folks.

Same here. Got a call from the NPTA this week for a donation. The guy said he'd hand me over to a person to confirm the donation of $25.00. The person he handed me over to could barely speak English. As to the address on the return envelope, it is in Brookfield, WI. Not in FL where the real association is located. If it doesn't walk like a duck or quack like a duck it probably is sky carp...

For 4 years, I have been hassled by this association and bullied with a heavy toned voice on my ans machine when i do not send in my pledge...I cant shake them...I know theyre a scam...next time I will tell them this is Cindy's attorney closing her estate...The end!!!Until next year!!!When they"ll call again and again and again!!!

Tell the NPTA 'yes' and then give them a false address if they don't already have yours. If they do send their envelope back empty. I know it costs 44 cents, but if they got a couple of million empty envelopes it would cost more to have them opened than it would be worth to them.

Yeah, I too received a call from these people. I asked them how much they received, and they told me 10%. I said, "well, I understand that some of your people say no less than 1%." She said, "no sir, it is 10%."
I asked how much of this is distributed to the local departments, and she said "there is no specific way to know this because it is sent by need."
She was very polite, but very short when I started asking these questions. Thanks for the # and information Jim. I was just about to mail 40 dollars to them.
| anonymous 2012-03-04 19:44:10 Unknown |
Never give donations to a stranger who calls you. Might be a scammer. Might be a legit independent fund raiser who keeps 99% for themselves and sends 1% to the charity. Best to donate directly to the charity so they will get 100% of your donation.

OK, here's the magic to make them stop. I just got a call from the National Police and Troopers association. I asked them "what percent of my contributions actually make it to the cops?". The caller responded with "state law requires me to tell you that no less than one percent." I said "did I hear that right? ONE percent?" He said "yes sir, and if you want more info you can call 1-800-219-5457". I called them and got an answering service. I don't know if tey'll call back, but this magic phrase cut the call short, and I expect them not to call again.
I always treat these callers with politeness and respect. They're just trying to make a living. It's the people who set up these "charities" who are responsible for the fraud.

NPTA OR IUPA uses a contracted fund raising company that is located in Reno, NV. It seems to me that both the NPTA/IUPA and the fund raising company called Outreach Calling, would both have to be contacted and told to be taken off of their mailing and calling list. If it doesn't happen we should all file complaints, I'm sick of them!

I got a call from this agency, too but their address is a PO Box in Wauwatosa, WI. This is pretty widespread. I wonder how much money they do rake in a year? It makes it bad for legitimate police organizations where funds do go to help injured officers. I say give locally, if you want to give to your police department.

Quick google search also shows Washington State Sec. of State info on this organization:
http://www.sos.wa.gov/charities/search_detail.aspx?charity_id=5457
only 24% of funds raised goes to programs, rest goes to those raising the funds...almost as bad as the United Way!

I believe this is a telemarketer and I pledged $20 which I thought I would check on this before i sent the $20. I am not sure the organization is legal. I therefore am sending them a note I have family that I help and it comes first. Now if this was from the Denver area and it was going to Denver police, I would feel better about it.
