So this number 888-356-2296
Has practically blown up my phone with ten calls and I don't even know where they are from and don't know how they got my number but if it's important they should leave a MSG . All I know is that it's some type of college or something. Still trying to figure out why have they call so much.
Andy 2013-07-01 23:55:47 Unknown
it's actually a university. I just got the call also but I couldn't understand the name of the university.

This caller is from a survey company that is paid by numerous colleges around the country to find out information and statistics on the students that might attend the colleges. I received a call from the on the behalf of Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, OR. I answered a couple question for them, because I wasn't busy and Mt. Hood is one of the colleges I plan on visiting on my colleges tour. It doesn't really matter if you answer or not, but please try to keep in mind that these people are just doing their jobs. These colleges are looking at you or your child as a possible attendee, which shouldn't be met with nearly as much anger and hostility as I'm seeing in these messages. If they have your number and are trying to speak to your child, it is because your child gave out the number as a way of being contacted by colleges like this. If it really bothers you, I recommend having a nice long chat with your child about giving out that number.

Just received a call from this number saying it was about College Admissions for "San Demas, California." When I said I'd never heard of "San Demas," he said, well, he didn't know where it was...uh, huh. He called asking for my 16-year-old son, so I'm glad I answered . Although my son would have picked up on a scammer, a lot of kids wouldn't, so I hope you nail this one.

Called at 6:11 pm PDT on 11-July2011. Caller asked for my daughter by her first name. Did not identifiy himself or purpose of call, so I requested that information. Caller gave a name and said that he was calling about her going to a college that we have no contact with. Demanded that he remove her name and never call here again. He said "okay."
Caller ID is "800 Service". Think this must be from some org that certain colleges pay to solicit prospective students. Probably got her name and number from the College Board PSAT and SAT tests. Shameful! NEVER GIVE PERSONAL & FINANCIAL INFORMATION TO AN UNSOLICITED CALLER.

i think that when children sign up for the college information stuff and the SAT/ACT exams they have to leave their phone numbers and the numbers, even if unlisted, are given out to the companies, such as college recruiting, loans, colleges. Ever since taking my SATs, Kaplan, this company, Pace University, Elmira College and several loan companies have called me. I signed up and allowed the option for my number to be released to these companies. Basically, I screwed myself over. When I went back and looked at my sign up sheet online, I allowed places such as Kaplan to mail/call/text me. When your teen signs up for such things, it might be wise to uncheck this box; it is checked already during online sign-ups by College Board, because they make money giving the phone numbers to the companies that call constantly. Although parents want their children's privacy kept, services like the College Board and these sights make it easy for predatory money lenders/companies to scam kids in the name of "education," something we have been indoctrinated to want cheap and high quality since birth. Next time, I know I will decheck the box.

This number called for me (I am 16), and it was a St. Benedict(s) college. The lady on the other line just asked me a few questions such as what I look for in a school, what I want to major in, and how difficult paying for college will be.

These people just called my cell phone about an hour ago. I didn't answer, and they didn't leave a message. What's odd is maybe 45 minutes prior, I had signed up to get mailed an admissions packet from the California Institute of the Arts, for which I provided my cell phone number. I thought it might've been them, but apparently it wan't.
Lilly 2011-06-06 21:05:26 Unknown

It's college admissions calling. I'm not sure which college yet. We just got one and my caller ID said admissions. I've been searching for info on it and that's the biggest response I've seen on it.
Newfie 2011-06-06 21:05:26 Unknown
The caller asked for my 18-year-old son, who was not home. They were told he'd be back in an hour, but they didn't call back.

I called the number back at the voice mail said it is "RuffaloCODY" - a company that specializes in college placement services. I left a message that I am on my state's do not call list and my number is unlisted. I wish that I knew how they got my number. If they call again, I am going to file a report with my state Attorney General's office.

Caller left no msg on ans machine. Caller ID display indicates some reason to hide true identity. Will never participate in any "survey" or give out information to these scammers and identity thieves.

I just got a call from this number, asking to speak to my 16 year old daughter. I asked who was calling and they said they were a "research company" representing Hood College. I promptly informed the woman that we were NOT interested and hung up. I very much resent someone calling to do "research" with my 16 year old and am just glad that she didn't answer the phone. These people have their nerve! Not only do I hate intrusive, what I consider to be "spam" calls at my phone, it's very inappropriate for someone to ask to speak to a minor without a parent's permission. I am going to report this to Hood College.
