Got a call from Nikki. Wanted me to call back. I did. Message said AMEX Open, and to leave a message. I did not.
I called AMEX main number. They verified this is not one of their numbers and is a scam.

If you got a call from this number you have a Business Card with American Express and more specifically been a member for some years. American Express OPEN is referring to the Business side of American Express (open.com) This is not a scam, the rep most likely said the call was a "Business Consultation", basically it is a check in phone call. See how the card is working for you, make sure you are satisfied, and make recomendations on how to get more out of the card with the benefits and services that are already included in your account.

Gary Manbauman used to sit across the isle from me and I used to work for the program that left you a message from the number 1-888-361-1448. It is a company called West Business Services, located in Middleton, WI. You are correct, they do not work for Amex, but they are authorized to speak on behalf of Amex. They have access to your full account, and the retention department is charged with contacting current customers (which Amex provides your account information to them) and making sure everything is working well with your card and you are able to get the best value out of the card. It is not a scam, but I can understand your hesitance. We were taught, if there was hesitation on the card member behalf, to have you call Amex directly, we would put a note in your account, so they could see we had access. I'm sorry Amex was unable to put the peices together, but yes, Amex gave your information to a third party in an attempt to increase usage of the card.

This is LEGIT!  When I called back, the rep said that he was going to ask me a personal security question to verify my identity.  I said to him "but you called me!"  I asked him to call me back to verify it was me.  He did, and gave some great advice as to how i could increase my reward points on my AMEX Platinum card.  Never again asked anything of a personal nature.

Got a call from this #, offering me improved service but asking for the security code of my credit card. Hence, this is likely some fraud spying on CC data.

I received a call from a man named Gary Manbauman who requested my personal sercurity key and the last 4 of my SS...he said he was from American Express Open and needed to verify my identity to give me a message.  I told him I would not give those out and asked him for a call back number and name and then called the AE customer service number...they said the number he gave 1-888-361-1448 is not affiliated with American Express.

Called Am Ex number on back of card, and was told this is not an AM EX number and they do not contract with consultants for such retention calls, and any retention activities would be vai mail or email. AM EX never calls people and asks for PIN codes. I advised AM Ex today to report this to their fraud division.

received somewhat strange call and message from Alexa extension 8591 claiming to be from Am Ex Open. Wanted my security PIN and of course I did not provide. She kept saying I am having a hard time pulling up your account. She said I could call the AM EX number on my card to reach her. Checked several reverse number web sites and two pointed to a small town in Wisconsin, Middleton.

Got a call from Leslie who left a message claiming to be with Amex.  I called Amex and the guy looked up the number and said that it is NOT Amex.  He said that if it was an Amex number it would show up on his list, and advised me not to call the number.  He said that he would turn it in to their investigations dept.

I checked with Amex, apparently (888) 361-1448 is NOT them, even though they purport to be.

got a call from this number and returned the call.  It was AMEX checking in on my card seeing if everything was ok. I did call the number on the back of my call afterward to confirm.

Very weird call.  Came over as unknown and left a message syaing that it was American Express Open, but when I called back, they wanted my security Key, which I would not give them, since I did not know who they were.  The person was very unprofessional and I do not think it was really American Express.

I called American Express and they confirmed that this is indeed one of their phone numbers.  It is someone from their "retention team" (calling to see if I'm happy with the service/card).
