I just received 2 missed calls from that number.  when i called it back, the phone didn't ring, it automatically answered but nobody was on the other end of the line.

I don't know if this is from verizon, but it is truly annoying.

VZW does this to help you avoid high overages that might put a bad taste in your mouth about Verizon Wireless.  The texts/phone calls are based on the last 3 months of usage, so you may not currently be over your texting, data, or voice minutes.  They will offer to put you on the next plan up for service and backdate the plan, which will often bring your overages way down.  You can always switch back the next billing cycle if it was a one-time overage. If you are unsure of the validity of any text/call from VZW, dial *611 from your handset to contact Verizon Wireless customer service.  This is airtime free.  The number on the original post is authorized by Verizon Wireless.  I do apologize for the post by "me."  I'm sure that is or was an employee, because the information is pretty much spot on.  If you updated to an unlimited feature recently you may receive the call due to the 3 month histor the call is based on.  This system is on a dialer, so you may not receive messages.  It does take up to 30 days to be removed from the VZW system as a whole; however, the number you request to be removed from the system will be removed out of the system that makes this specific call by the end of business the day you request it.  You can also request the representative give the number manually to a supervisor, and they will have the IT department remove it immediately.  Remember though, this request will remove you from getting ANY calls from VZW.  Many of those calls may be beneficial to you as a customer.  Just as an FYI.  VZW changed many of their plans as of January 18, 2010.  They may benefit you as a customer, especially if you are currently under an unlimited minute plan.  You can view them at verizonwireless.com and change your plan there or from *611 on your cell phone.

First of all, this 888 number has been calling me every day over the past few days and never left any voicemails. I answered today at 2:30pm and he said he was calling from Verizon wireless and wanted to let me know there was going to be a change to my account. The price will stay the same but the name of the account will be changing and he will need to verify my information in order to move forward. He said I have been going over on my texts lately and should upgrade to the next package. I said I will look over my texts and change that later on.  Finally he said “do I have your permission to make all of these changes?”. That’s when I asked him for his name. He verified the spelling of my name and my address. He then asked me for the last 4 digits of my SSN. I said I do not feel comfortable giving it to him over the phone. He said “I have it right in front of me I just need you to verify it to make the change to your account.” I said I would feel more comfortable if I went to someone in the store or called someone myself to do this. He went on about how the people in the stores are just franchises and he was from the corporate offices and he already has the information, blah blah blah. I said I totally understand but with everything going on with fraud I am just not comfortable and finally he gave me his phone number and got off the phone. The number is: 888-366-0903. I called the number and it sounds like a Verizon number where they tell you to hold for a rep. but there is no menu to choose from. When the rep answered he said “Thanks for calling Verizon wireless, my name is Daryl Hamilton can you please give the phone number you are calling from?” It seems weird that he would have to ask for the phone number since I was calling from it.

So I went online and called customer service and asked them. They said there will be a merge of all accounts to a different name but none of them are happening now. She asked a colleague and they said they do not know of any mass calls being made on this. I gave her the phone number and told her exactly what happened, and she was very thankful that I called. She is looking into it now.

Again, I do not know for sure if it was real or not but better to be safe than sorry!

i work for this company we are honest people doin an honest job all it is is we are subcontracted through verizon wireless.. we called people from this number because of them goin over text messaging.. we usually l;ook at the last 3 months and it is consistent with one of the prior 3.. some times people already update it to where they arent goin over but we call because of that.. we do not scam.. sorry you guys are just too paranoid to even leave your house without thinking something bad.. the reason why customer service says no one has called they are referring from their office.. we leave notes in peoples accounts and everything to the changes we make for customers

I get texts from this number regularly, telling me that I've gone over my text limit (I'm not even close to going over my text limit).  I also just received my first call from them.  As everyone else has stated, this is a hoax and possibly a phishing scam.

If Verizon ever calls YOU and asks for any personal information, DO NOT GIVE IT TO THEM.  Hang up and call the real Verizon number before giving out personal info.

Received a call again this morning at 9:46am.  She asked for Salvador something or other.  I asked who was calling and she replied "Verizon Wireless".  I told her never to call my number again.   She replied she would put me on the "no call list" which will take up to 30 days.  I replied that she is a liar and was not calling from Verizon Wireless.  We then got into a screaming match and I hung up.  I will not be answering this number again.  I hope this information has been helpful...

Received a call from this number on my cell phone on 2/20/2008 at 11:54am and returned the call immediately.  He indicated that he was from Verizon Wireless and started questioning me regarding my account.  We were disconnected and he never called back.  I have received similar calls on my business line from people indicating that they were from Verizon; however, after consulting with the Verizon business office, it turns out that they are from competing companies attempting to have you switch phone providers in such a way that you are unaware of this happening. I have my service blocked through Verizon in order to protect my account from this ever occurring.  These companies constantly come up with more and more sophisticated approaches.  BEWARE!!!

I received a call from this number stating he was from Verizon Wireless and had mentioned I went over my texting mintues. I told him I have unlimited texting and he siad he didn't see that until I mentioned it. He went on to say that my wireless package had been updated to include mobile web free of charge. Two hours later I called Verizon Wireless to confirm the change and they said it was never changed. The call was a hoax.

This number comes up as the source of the call of the person who called me this afternoon, identifying him/herself by speaking so fast that I could not figure out WHO it might be (blurred by my ear sounding like the name of a law firm, actually) and the voice said, "Is this [x? -- giving my first name only]" and I responded "Yes," upon which the line hung up.

I would like to learn a) who called representing which office/business, why the call came in to me, and why the person hung up.

I thought this was going to be an easy process, to block my cell phone number from annoying calls, it doesn't appear so.

I get calls from (602) 248-4930, (321) 732-2306, 1-800-738-3888, (269)768-2170

I try never to answer my phone when I see an unknown number, however, that doesn't always happen depending if I'm outside in the sun or inside in the house.  I'm getting very very mad, could please forward any advice besides going through 10 pages of red tape, if this doesn't stop soon, I will disconnect my service and go with another carrier.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Respectfully submitted,
Sandra K. Wiggins

I just received a phone call from this number and when I picked up the phone they hung up. I have been receiving hangups for a couple of weeks now. I'm glad I found this posting, cause Verizon dropped my text plan too and my kids had used their texting all month thinking they had the 250 min text plan that I subcribed to on my account and I received a huge bill and when I called Verizon they told me somehow my Text plan had dropped off! I wonder how many people don't call when their bill goes up and just pay the bill! I think Verizon does this on purpose!

I got two phone calls this morning and upon reading these posts, I called Verizon Wireless and told them that I wanted to cancel my new text message plan since that seems to be the only way to stop the phone calls.  The person I spoke to said they would contact the Verizon marketing department to ensure my number was taken off their call list.  I hope this actually happens - if not, Im cancelling my text message plan and maybe my Verizon contract.

I didn't answer but that is definitely annoying that they do that. I too have verizon so I guess it really for that reason. I just added texting to my plan like 2 weeks ago you would think they would leave me alone.

this numbers calls me approximately 2-3 times a week. i've only gotten clicks and hang ups, but it may have been the same number verizon called me to add text messaging to my phone. and i, like the other person here, was like, "why is verizon calling me three times a day to try to save me money? that doesn't make any sense." so i no longer having a text message plan.

i've also added the number to my contacts as "scumsuckingmarketing" and given them the "no ring tone" option. i wish i could block the number entirely, but i don't think my phone has that as a feature.

haven't answered yet - but will add, due to others' reports, that I am a verizon customer. I have received repeated calls from this number, which started after a few weeks of almost hourly calls from an 'unavailable' number...I wonder if that number was this one - but blocked.

They keep calling to offer me a better deal but then they refuse to offer me a refund for the outrageous text message charges due for the previous month - which were the result of verizon failing to sign me up for unlimited text messaging - again.

Every time I upgrade to a new phone this happens: despite the fact that the last phone had unlimited text messaging they somehow conveniently "forget" to add it to the new phone, even though the number stays the same. They wonder why I get so frustrated with them for calling to save me money on what they should not be charging me for in the first place!

I quit.
