theses focus guys are still at it...they called my mother and tried to get info from her, mentioning something about LLBean and debts owed...she called LLBean to check it out.
I have had her number on the DO Not Call registry for quite some time, do I have to keep adding it?

Debt Collector
Focus is a posing as a debt collector, but based on all the posts on various sites, for this and other phone numbers they use, they are not legit, regardless of what anyone says.   They seem to have bought a list of people who have had past mortgage financial problems which have since been resolved.  But they appear to try to find someone who doesn't really know their rights when it comes to foreclosures, short sales or deed in lieu and try to intimidate them into paying them additional money.  Don't!  Tell them to send you something in writing and you'll have your attorney contact them.  You won't see anything from them.

The worst part is that if you don't return calls, they'll go to the phone book and start calling people with your same last name hoping they know you.  Even lied and told someone that I listed them as a reference on my credit application, which I never did.
Best thing it so tell them you don't know the person and tell them if they don't put your name on their Don't Call list, you will be filing a complaint with the FTC for Don't Call Violations since you are not an existing customer.  Not to mention, creditors are not allowed to release anything about debts to anyone other than you or a spouse.  They're breaking to many rules, it should be warning flags to everyone not to take them seriously.  And never send them any money!

Just got a call from _______ Receivables Mgmt, LLC (first part of message was garbled) stating that they needed a call back ASAP regarding file #..........  then the call just off.  I don't owe anyone anything - don't have a credit card or any loans so I don't know what they are fishing for other than personal info.

As soon as you answer the phone tell them that the call is being recorded and if they continue with the call that is their acknowledgment that the call is being recorded, they immediately hangup 95% of the time. The last thing these people want you to have is evidence of their wrong doings.

Not interesting. They're a debt collector. If you paid your bills, they wouldn't call you.  They will keep calling until you talk to them.

they call me constantly!!  most of the times its a recorded announcement telling me to call and reference a specific case #.  A few times a live person was at the other end and asked for another person....same last name, different first name...but the same initial.
I told them that the person they are asking for does NOT live at this address...
she repeated the name with an attitude and i said as i told you before, that person does not live here...
she said oh awwrighty then!  and i hung up.   guess what, they are still calling!!!  ridiculous!

Hey all.
I have filed two suits against collection agencies and have been successful. There are lots of ways they can violate the FDCPA but here are the really common ones, as told to me.
   * Disclose the existence of your debt to a third person like family, friends or co-workers
   * Use obscene or profane language
   * Falsely imply that you have committed crime or imply that you are about to be arrested
   * Attempt to intimidate you or your family
   * Claim to be an attorney or send a letter made to look like it is from an attorney when he/she is not an attorney

They can't tell anyone besides you or your spouse that they are calling about a debt. They can't swear at you either. If they tell you they are sending the sheriff over, they're breaking the law. If they try to scare you or your family, they're also breaking the law. They can't tell you they are an attorney or pretend to be one.

Anyway, if you are having problems with a collector, call Mark Carey's law office at 877-909-MARK. He?s the Same consumer rights attorney I used.

It's a debt collection agency, and I think they are legit, but they just have horrible information and logic.  They have the wrong person, and don't seem to ever look into it or change it, no matter what you say.

My strategy is to answer the phone, speak in a slightly soft tone, for a few seconds, so they have to turn up their headset to hear me, then I yell as loud as I can into the phone, just to hurt their ears.

I've received less calls from them now. Everyone else should do this.

This is a debt collector called Focus Receivables.  They were calling my cell phone erroneously. They cited another person's name and a different home phone number associated with my cell number, which I have had for the past 6 years.  Manager's name is Malik Hamid.  Callers are ignorant and rude - pronounce "both" as "bofh", etc.  I am reporting them and all their numbers to the FCC.

Just an idea:
If they are calling your cell, call them back from a friend's home phone, ask them why they are calling your cell and who are they calling.  Then tell them that is not your name or cell number (even if it is), and they will take you off the list.  Remember, they can I.D. whatever phone number you're calling from.
If they are calling your home, call them from a friend's cell and ask them why they are calling your home number and who they are calling.  Tell them that is not your name or home number.

These idiots called on a Sunday !!  Left a message to call a "Michael Smith".
I have no idea what this guy was calling for because he did not say - but I will report them to the Federal Trade Commission.

I also have an unlisted number so I am upset that people that I have no business with are calling on this number and on a Sunday !!

I have a relative that works there  :)

Warning to "Michael Smith" and company - Never - Ever - mess with a Mother trying to change a baby's diaper.  Need I say more.

What some people do for money disgust me.  Never give out your personal info to these people.

IF you get any calls from this company or any bill collector and they are rude with you and call you a liar or call you more than 1x time per week let them know you will report them to Federal Trade Commision. All collection agencies have certain rules and regulations they must follow such as they can not call you more than 1x per day and they can not use foul language with you. It's un proffessional of them to use foul language

they called a bunch of times.  As someone above said. Never pay a debt collector any money.  wait until someone sues you or 4 years have passed.  in the meantime, if you ever speak with one of these parasites make sure you do not give them any accurate information.  pollute their databases as much as possible.  and never ever forget that these bottom dwellers, if they even actually own the debt, probably only paid 3 to 4 cents on the dollar if the debt is over 6 months old.

Chances are, before the debt went delinquent, you have probably paid 3 or 4 times the amount actually borrowed with all of the fees, interest, fees on fees etc.  they have already made their profit.  if you have not really paid off at least the amount originally borrowed then, if you can, try to pay the original creditor so at least they are covered even if they don't make a profit on you. (just my opinion)

but it sounds like this company is a scam and may not actually own any debts but are probably searching public records for liens, lawsuits, foreclosures etc. --- just don't answer and see if you can block their calls completely.
