I just got a call from this number (I did not answer, and they did not leave a message). Finding these notes I called it back, since I did in fact place an order to Sears this morning. They said they had already "released" my order (I guess, figuring i was legit). This just seems like a really odd way to do business. What is this, 1985?

SCAM ALERT!!!

This is not likely.  Hard to believe this person with the non-detail they provided.  The Sears local store would note the item is ready for pickup or the Sears.com would indicate your order has been received.  None of this simplistic nonsense if they do have your legitimate email address.

Beware these false postings here.

Not likely little peanut!  If it truly were Sears "Fraud dept." calling you, they would leave a voice mail or, at the least, call again.

We are all getting tired of the scammers posting here in an attempt to make this appear to be legitimate calling for your personal info!

Please don't believe any of the scammers here, it may be costly to you if you provide them with any personal info at all.

This must really be the sears fraud line. I received a call from them but let it go to voicemail. I checked my credit card transactions and there was a pending charge from Sears, but I did not buy anything from them. I called my bank directly and they took care of it. So glad this was caught early!

Placed an order w/ sears within an hour ,rec. an e-mail from (SEARS) ? They asked me to call 1-888-396-5299 and verify my purchase. The person I talked to, did not have the skills to be talking to your customers, he asked a number of questions, including my ss# which after some discussion , I finally did give it to him !!!!!!! This is ILLEGAL as I'm sure NOT YOUR  POLICY !!!!!!! Your office knows who this is,I want this person dealt with for choosing to IGNOR your POLICY,
I am also sending this complaint to SEARS corporate , and insist they remedy / and reprimand all involved. I have also notified my cc card company ,of this violation.
M H Boome 352-687-8944. It would be in your best interest to contact me A.S.A.
I cannot believe this of SEARS !!!!!!!!!

This was Sears checking that I really do exist after I ordered a TV.  Took one minute and they only asked for information that I put on their website.  They did not try to sell me anything.

Yes, this is indeed Sears fraud department. I just got a call from them but didn't answer it. Then I got email from kmart asking to call them to verify an order (and I didn't place an order with them recently). I checked email header data and verified that email did indeed come from Kmart and that it is their phone#. I called them and found there was indeed a fraudelent order placed using my credit card# and address that I no longer live at. I will be dealing with canceling the card and checking everything else associated with it in the next few days. But I'm happy they contacted me about it. And since I ordered from both sears and kmart before they had my full contact information available to them because my phone# is not inn public records and I'm verify careful who I accept calls from.

And just to confirm again - yes this is real Sears/Kmart Fraud Verification. And whoever says here they are not are themselves possibly con artists who are not happy with their work of verifying orders.

I received a message saying they needed to verify my order, however it was from Kmart, and the call back # was 8883965299. They stated in the message my order would be canceled if there was no response in 72 hours, so I called the number. They had the correct order number, and wanted to verify that I had actually made the purchase. I was uncomfortable with the questions; they wanted my birth date, address, last digits of credit card used, etc. I did relay only one piece of info, how long I have lived at my present address, and they said "Great, your order will now be processed". I  received an email the next day stating my order was ready to pick up at the store. All seemed well.
Three days later I received a call from the fraud department of the cc company I used to make the purchase, and indeed there were fraudulent charges on my card. Three large ones on the same day. This had to be a breach based on the strange phone call I received regarding that one order. It seems someone is portraying themselves as Sears/Kmart, (or it's internal) and using actual order numbers to solicit information to commit fraud. It is not a coincidence that my credit card was used for online purchases immediately after responding to this phone message. Beware!

Lady called to confirm a bunch of orders I had placed online.  Was very nice - asked me basic identification questions just confirming I guess that I wasn't using someone else's card.  Took about 2 minutes.

This is a real Sears verification number. You can even call the number they have online to verify. But the charge on my card was fraud (online ID theft) and so they were verifying an order and it wasn't mine.  I had to cancel my c/c right away as the person who ordered the item (under my name!) used a shipping address in MA and I live in CA!  You can call the Sears number on the website and not this 888 # if you are not comfortable.

I got a message from this number and had doubts to its legitimacy--reports here are mixed.  So, with some degree of suspicion, I called back, was asked for a verification number (which was left on the message I received) for a purchase made at sears.com.  I did NOT make a purchase at sears.com.  I was asked my name, and then if I had a credit card ending in [4 digit number].  It matched my credit card, and she informed me that a TV had been purchased using this card.
The sears.com woman I spoke with seemed to be understanding that I was reluctant to give out information.   I was not asked multiple questions-ssn, address, birthday, etc, just my name, the order number (which was on the message), and to verify that I had a card ending in [4 digit number]
I immediately called my credit card company, who informed me that there were 2 transactions-from sears and ftd, both of which are fraudulent.

I placed an online order with Sears, shipping to a different address. They sent me an email, asking me to call this number to verify. So, I reluctantly did so. I didn't give them any information beyond my middle initial and the different addresses (billing and shipping) since they didn't match. After the phone call, I received an email saying my order was now being processed and shipped. So, yeah, it definitely is related to Sears.

It is Sears fraud, They called my phone 4 times with in 10 minutes, I went through 3 interviews and answered their security questions. I also had a voice mail and call this number back 8883965299. Sheesh, what an ordeal. Next time I will purchase my appliances elsewhere.

I bought a gift card online from sears and got a call from this number to verify for security within about 15 minutes. At first the questions were legit "what did you order?"  "what e-mail address did you use?" But then they got really weird "What state did you live in when you were issued your social security?"  "How long have you lived at your billing address listed?"   "how old is your mom"?     But they never asked for my social security number,  or any actual info related to my credit card...  I guess those questions were all public info, so I answered. And sure enough sears emailed my gift card a few minutes later.

Still, it was super weird and I feel pretty uncomfortable about it, like they're planning on stealing my identity...

Sorry to inform you, but my Chase-Amazon card number that was used at Sears. Sears alerted me, not Amazon that the billing address didnt match. Thanks sears for going the extra mile and not simply accepting payment. I think the real difference between them and Amazon is that Amazon uses thousands of vendors...that many opportunities for fraud. Nothing against them since I use them all the time, just saying.

Thought it was a scam also, but I did call the number listed on the Sears webpage. I asked to be transferred to the fraud dept and they did. I gave them my home telephone number and they confirmed that there was a purchase of 2 sears gift cards which I did not order. I then called my credit card company and reported my Chase card number as being stolen. I had a total of $400 at sears and another $200 at other on line stores. The reason they called was the fact that the thief didnt know my home address and this flagged the fraud dept.
