I also received a crazy message about a service alert from Sprint. They had my name correct but not the last 4 digits of my wireless acct.
It came up as a local Atlanta number for me. 678-853-5129 but asked me to call 888-211-9960.
Looks like this scam has been around for awhile and still is. Glad I found this site.

Just got a call from this number too. The lady said she was from H&R Block and wanted to know if we had done our taxes yet, I said no, then she asked if I wanted to set up an appointment. I had a feeling this was more scammer B.S. so I told her no. When it's time to have our taxes done, the tax preparer calls us and the caller ID. says H&R Block not some random sprint number. I'm so tired of these a** jerk scammers.

I got a call from 888-398-2460, but the woman said the call was from H&R Block.  She also left a number to call to stop these pestering calls : 800-443-7174.

I think it's Stevens Business Service, and their scam.

This is Sprint's Accounts Receiveable (or perhaps internal Collections Department) . . . sad part is that the calls can come through very, very early in the morning or late, late at night, which is not good customer service to be woken up.

The message was automated and said something about the line being "in danger."  After hearing my name spoken, I was asked to speak my name slowly and clearly.  I have automated payment by my credit card on my Sprint account, and see no reason to have my name recorded in my voice.  Sounds like a scam to me.

Called to cell phone regarding Loan service.........something with my name spoken by auto-recorded male's voice. Any protection from that kind of irritating calls? Do they trade cell phone numbers and phone holder's name? Then, it should be illegal to trade personal informaiton.

Well they called me at 9:30am and 7:00pm yesterday, and 9:30 this morning as well.

They left me a message last night saying "Hello, this is sprint calling for 'name' regarding a service alert that has been placed on the wireless account that ending in 'xxxx.' To protect your account and to ensure continued service, you are required to contact us today at 1-888-398-2460."

So is this thing for real or a scam?

Got same message but came from (888) 335-6963.  They had my husband's name which the account is under, but my cell"s last four cell digits.  The message said they were not taking calls and to call back later.   They did not identify them as sprint or any other company.

I used this form because the issue is the same, but the number from which the call originated (in my case) was from my area (310-933-3310).

I know what happens when I'm late paying my bill, and I've never heard the term "service alert" before.

I always get texts from sprint, and they always suggest to either go to their website or to dial (*3 I think it is) to make a payment.

I've been looking through my phone to try and figure out how to block a particular incoming caller's number, but alas, no luck. Some of the newer landline phones can do it, why can't our cells?

I have been called from this nomber trice this morning!! (Sunday)!!! It was automated. They had my name and the last 4 of my acct #. They said my acct was going to be suspended imediatly if I did not pay a balance of 82.00 with my visa or MC. Of course i thought it was b***s***. I called customer service and they stated that it was most definatly a scam and reported this to the fraud Dept. She stated sprint will never call you and ask for that information. They sent a text message to your phone. If you get this call, DO NOT ENTER YOUR credit card #!!!! Call customer service directly to ask if a balance is owed and report this SCAM!!!!!

My story is much like everyone else's, but I've constantly received these calls for over a month.  Sprint also informed me that they do not have the rights to this number.  IS ANYBODY AN ATTORNEY THAT COULD LOOK INTO FILING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THE PERSONS MAKING THESE CALLS, ON THE GROUNDS OF PRIVACY ENCROACHMENT?  Keep us posted, I've got all of my detailed phone bills ready to go!

Okay, these scammers are really good, they had my name and the last four digits of my BUSINESS phone, which is registered to my business, not my name and yet they had MY name and the last four of the number.
The number they are leaving this message about was not a Sprint number so I knew right away this was shady.
I called a friend at the local Sprint office and he assured me that this is NOT SPRINT calling from 1-888-398-2460.

I received a call from 888-398-2460.  Apparently these scammers are getting better at this, because they did have the correct last 4 of my phone number and my name.  They asked me to press 1 if I was the owner of the account, 2 ..., 3 to wait while I got the owner.  It was a computerized voice, and it definitely sounded scam-ish.  So I didn't call back, and instead called Sprint at *2.  I asked them to check for any service alerts on my account.  I lost signal for the first call while standing on my front steps--I have to go outside to make a call, since I get terrible reception inside the house.  Apparently it isn't much better outside.  A 2nd call to Sprint and they verified that there was no such service alert on my account.  I'd like to find out who it is calling...

Received a voice mail from this number (supposedly Sprint). Stated that there was a service alert on your account ending XXXX. This was not my Sprint number, but the last four digits to my home line. Very strange. I called the number back and was asked to enter some information. I hung up and called *2 on my cell (Sprint Customer Service), was transferred to Tech Support who didn't know any thing about an alert on either of my lines of cellular service. I gave him the number and he couldn't reach them due to a restriction to which numbers they could outbound dial. This tells me that it probably isn't a Sprint number. He also told me that is could very likely be a phishing scam.

After an hour on the phone with Sprint's various department's and the threat of cancelling my service, I got the cancellation department which seems to be the way to go to get any reasonable response from Sprint these days.  The number is Sprit's automated calling service when you have a service alert that the account is past due.  Sprint is fast losing customers and this is just another reason why!

I got a call from this number.  It said there was a service alert on my account and gave the last four digits for a number which did not correspond to any of my lines of service.  I called Sprint customer service.  I was told there was no not on my account.  I asked to be transfered to the Fraud Dept which is apparently run by the CIA because there is no number for them and the transfer took forever.  The Fraud Dept. was not helpful!  I told her about this site.  The best she could say was: "It could be the Financial Services Dept."  My response: "As soon as my contract expires, I am done with Sprint."  It is clear to me they are clueless!  I think the number is a hoax but there is no help from Sprint to investigate this matter.

I got many many annoying calls from this number for at least 3 months at all times of the day. I never picked up the phone, a message was never left.  Finally the other night a message: "There is a service alert placed on acct. ending 6841. To ensure continued service please call back 888-398-2460." Seeing these forums on this site made me aware that this was definately a hoax. I then called Sprints customer service from my phone (*2) and talked to a representative who said that it was not them, there was no note in my account, and even if it were a sprint collection agency, they only send text messages out, and they are not allowed to harrass you, so they only send it once.  The Sprint person said they would add this number to thier list of hoax and that they will block the call, so I should not recieve any more harrassment calls from that number.  Also I am placed on the "National Do Not Call List" and they still had my number.

Received a call  from 888-398-2460 saying it was Sprint and a "service alert" had been placed on account with a phone number blah-blah-blah-blah, but the phone number wasn't a cell phone number but my home phone number (!?).  Very weird.
