So JEN.. instead of ignorning the call why dont you call them and tell them they have the wrong number..
Jen 2011-06-06 21:05:29 Unknown
They have left a couple messages for us, asking for a Tenny Turner - not anything near or could be construed as our name, asking to call them. They've called us twice this month.
Deanna 2011-05-04 05:32:21 Unknown
I would not just ignore, I would check to see if my identity was used!!!

If you get a call from this number, it is from a Student Loan that you currently have. If you do not have ANY student loans, give them a call and have them remove your number. They usually call you because Student Loans are not Forgivable and if you default on this loan, then you and those that need your guarantee for a gov loan will not be able to sign for those you love or get a loan yourself. Plus, they will pursue you in every considerable way... Think of the IRS pursuit.
sorry. If it's not you, simply call them and tell that it's not you.

Unwanted call, looks like scam, should be reported to BBB

I got two strange calls from this number in two days, from a "christie". I've never taken out a student loan, so I'm wondering what is going on. .

I received a call from this number today & was left a pre-recorded message: "This is Nel Net calling with an important message for Crystal W*****" (no one I know & I've had this cell # for 3 years) They left a call back number & a website: www.nelnet.com.
If they call back I'll answer & ask to be removed from the calling list.

saw your posting, if you haven't had this question answered before, the answer is 'yes'. there is a wonderful thing called the 'fair debt collectors act', it explains that they can only contact you between the hours of 8am and 9pm local time. if you receive a call, they may have your time zone mixed up, which can easily be corrected-by telling them.

They called wanting to collect from me. They had the name right, but all the other information was wrong. The man I spoke with said he was removing my name from their calling list.

They keep telling me that my payment was never made or that I am going into default. My payment is automatic out of my bank account on the same day for the last 3 years. I continue to call every month and have to have my bank fax nelnet my bank statement. Its ridiculous!!

I took your advice and made a formal complaint today! Thank you!!!!

I have received numerous calls from this service. I finally made a formal complaint to the FCC today about them. I took iDude's advice; so now they have yet another strike against them.
They are wanting someone with who shares the same last name to return their call. I truly hope this will now stop the annoying calls.
Good luck to every one in my situation. Tired of this too, go and make a complaint as well at:

I received a call from Nelnet as described by others above asking for the person that evidently had this phone number many years ago, as I have had this number for over 6 years. I've gotten calls for this guy on numerous weird/sketchy types of things

Nelnet student loans, collection department. I was late on one payment over a year ago and now they call me every month usually two or three days before my payment is due. Usually its a recording saying to call back because assistance is availible. I tried to get someone on the phone to tell them that I haven't actually missed a payment and I don't need them calling anymore.. but only get recordings.

This number called me at TWO A.M.
Isn't that illegal????
iDude 2008-12-20 17:17:46 Unknown
They're still at it. They leave a pre-recorded voice message. They call once a month, every month saying that "Candice Minguerez" has an important announcement & please call back. They've been doing this for years! I know no such person. I've reported them to the FTC and FCC and encourages others to do so too.

Phone call was a recorded message stating my name, that it was important to return this call and that assistance was available. No name of the service was mentioned.

Nel-Net is for student loans. My daughter has one that her deadbeat father won't pay so they call me. From the paperwork, call 888-486-4722 weekdays from 8a to 10p EST. or www.nelnet.com You should be able to straighten it out from that.
Kenny 2008-03-05 10:14:55 Unknown
I have been receiving calls from Nelnet for a couple of months. They mention student loans, I don't have any outstanding loans so I ignore them.
DJ 2007-11-21 19:31:28 Unknown
They call asking for a Lonnie person-who ever that is. I called the number back to tell them they had the wrong number, and got disconnected. I have no idea who they are.

Nelnet Student Loans
Likely collection activities, as Nelnet had screwed up my interest rates and told me not to make payments until they fixed it.
