Keep getting automated calls telling me to call another number. Saying they are debt collection agency. Funny thing is, I have no outstanding debt at all. I actually only have two credit cards that I always pay on time. I am not wasting my time calling another number to find out what it going on. I am hoping they stop calling.

https://www.usbank.com/privacy/faq.html    -- appears to be the website for US Bank

http://gethuman.com/phone-number/US-Bank/collections--5858/   -- appears to be a website giving tips on how to talk to a human in their collections department.

SUGGESTION:  Call BOTH and see if they have any delinquent account for you.  Better yet, call or go by your local branch and get the number to the main office and/or collections.

However, from what I'm reading on one site, good luck actually talking to anyone or having them return your call.
Maybe report them to your state's Dept of Banking and/or Dept of Financial Regulation or Secretary of State?  Someone has to have authority over the banking and collections industry in your states!  Check around and find out.  Maybe call another bank and ask them who regulates their industry in your state!

Maybe I misunderstand.  Is this one of many calls you've received over the past several months?
Have you checked the Statute of Limitations on debt that can be sued for in your state?
Did you even make a debt with US Bank over 8 years ago?

I see your logic!  Sounds like a HECK of a DEAL for US Bank!
By the way, hope you folks are checking the Statute of Limitations in your states for these debts.  They seem to run between 3-15 years, depending on the state AND the type of debt.
My first question would be:
1-So, IF I had an alleged debt that was EIGHT years old, why has it NEVER been on my credit report?
2-WHY has there NEVER been any collection attempts BEFORE NOW? (esp, since I haven't moved or changed numbers, etc.)
3-Mail me PROOF, as required by the FDCPA of the original debt and my signature on it."  -- that does NOT mean a letter saying (basically) you checked, and show I owe it.
It means
a--SHOW ME A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL RECEIPT,
b--A COPY OF MY ORIGINAL NOTIFICATION OF THIS ALLEGED DEBT

Also, check with the BBB.org on these company's rating and how they're handling complaints.

I'm not familiar with either of these companies in these posts, but looking at some of the phone number sites talking about US Bank Recovery ....well, I'd look closer and demand more proof than verbal "proof."
Then, again, I'm old and cranky, and my limit on BS is about a -15 most days!

I received a call from Meredith St. Clare last night as well.  She was saying that I to had an unpaid debt with US Bank.  This debt was 8 years old and I have never heard of it until now.  I did have an account with them back then but I closed it in correct standing. The famous Meredith told me that if I didn't pay them right away this will be sent to court then I will have court costs and other expenses on top of it.  She did give me the number to the US Bank Recovery Department like a few others have experienced on this thread.  Meredith told me that I can call them tomorrow (since it was after their hours currently) and then I needed to call her back and pay my settlement.  Has anyone experienced a case where Credit Smart is trying to collect a legit debt?  I know it sounds foolish but they did scare me a bit and I don't want any unpaid debts on my credit report.

After reading several peoples posts on here I am stating to be skeptical of US Banks involvement as well.  Seems like it could be a trick to get you to enroll in their identity monitoring program.  Seems like they got "Suspicious" to enroll on Feb 17 and "Missy" did as well.  I am curious as to what US Bank told you guys, because supposedly they are selling this debt to Credit Smart and Credit Smart is collecting the debts and willingly handing over this US Bank Recovery Dept. phone number.  When you call them they sell you some identity monitoring program.  I smell fish.

Different number to return call to but same scam. 1 888-662-1778. She said they wanted to give me one more chance to settle and I told her that if I got one more call from them , they'd be hearing from my lawyer and she told me to have a nice night and hung up. Hopefully that's the last call...

I called US Bank and they were aware of the scam. They said that they are investigating. I was very upset to think that someone had stolen my identity (I knew that I had NEVER had a checking acct. with US Bank) I have since enrolled in an Idendity Monitoring program.  I think that they got my phone number from Facebook so I deleted it. It could explain how they get your relatives info.

US Bank is aware and are investigating. The woman who called me said that her name was Meredith St. Clare and the number she gave to call back was 1-866-509-3202. When I said that I wasn't paying it, she gave me a number of 1-866-434-2103 which is a legit. number for US Bank's debt recovery. It made me buy an Idendity Monitor program tho.

They said that I had a checking account with US Bank which I've NEVER had and that I owed over $1100 for a check that didn't clear when I closed the acct. in 2005. They want to settle it now so I don't have to go to court or have my wages attached. It is a SCAM!! Do not give these people any information and do NOT pay them!!

Thanks to everyone who posted here. Just got a call from these turkeys about an hour ago. The number that showed up on my caller ID was 631-247-9920 and the company's name was CS Processing. The number that they gave to call back was 888-416-4980. They gave a 6 digit file number, but no contact person. Only said that it was regarding a "personal business matter".  Then 15 seconds later, they called my cell phone and left the same message. ( I only answer either phone if I know who the caller is). Glad to know I am not the only person this has happened to! Don't know if I should ignore them if they call again or answer the phone and have them for supper! Oh, yes. One more thing: They totally got my middle name wrong when they left the message!

Had to take care of it by 5:00 pm or would go to court and add on court fees, attorney fees, etc. Would end up costing Thousands. He offered settlement deals all the way down to 321.00 Practically begged for money any kind of payment TODAY before 5:00 to keep it from going to court.John Stevenson was the 1st name I was given @ 888-416-4980, but ended up being Alan Grant I was supposedly speaking to. He ask if my Mom could give him a card #  over the phone today just to keep it on his desk. The attorney would be filing at 5:00 without question etc.He said he had no paper workreally but would fax or email what he did have if I would give him my email. I did not. When he finally realized I was not sending money today he said he would keep it overnight.I should call him in the morning. That's when I decided at the advice of my Mom to check into this place. Low and behold, we found this web site. I will be calling the local media and the police. People like this need to be stopped. When you call the # a woman answers and all she says is"Good afternoon, how can I help you" No company name or attorneys name.

Keeps calling about a credit card debt that I supposedly owe. I have not owned a credit card since year 2000. That debt is almost twelve years old and has been off my credit report a few years. However, there has been calls about a case number, and been taken to court if debt is not paid. The calls stopped for some time. Them started last night at 7:15 p.m. I have ignored them up until now. The call is made from the number 631-755-5542, which I found out may possibly be made from a location in Farmingdale, NY. The 888 number is then left in the message for me to call and make arrangements about makeing payments on the so called debtthe payments.

It is illegal. and they lie. they called my relatives and told them I was filing a lawsuit against the city I live in, and wanted my relatives to tell me to contact this agency immediately. They told my relatives that I put them down as persons this agency could trust.
Excuse me, this agency is violating all of us who they try to or has succeeded in deceiving.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

these folks call your family and friends to pressure you into calling them.  they can only attempt to collect on a debt for a certain period of time. after that, by law, they can no longer contact you. that is why they call family menbers and friends to scare you or pressure you. legally they can do nothing to you. however, if you do call them they can again legally begin collection efforts.

i recieved a call from "credit smart" with this number and they claim that a civil suit is getting ready to go to my local county court which will require me to not only go to court, but to pay the amount owed in full plus attorney fees and court fees, etc.  the "account" in question should not even exist because it was on a bank account that had been closed and not heard about for 5 years.  then suddenly i'm called today and told i have to make a decision today about what i am going to do.  calling who knows how many different phone numbers with each company saying it was sold and still hitting a dead end.  the last company i called said they absolutely do not have my account when the one before them said that they sold it to the last one....so hmmmmm fraud, yes i think so. this has happened to me with another company before who ended up hitting international news, so let's just say i am leary about this crap!!!!  warnings to anyone, always research this stuff before giving anyone money.  not to mention "credit smart" said payment arrangements could only be made with debit or credit......hmmm what a bunch of b.s.  not everyone has those darn cards!!!!!!
