I just got call no message left...

I started this dialogue with the telemarketer at this #, and she said she was transferring me to a supervisor, but actually hung up on me.  Haven't heard from them since.

Help!!  Get the DO NOT CALL CALVARY!!  With the feds shut down, the do not call.gov site is shut down.  Seems like that leaves us WFO (wide f***ing open).  Thank God for the many sites offering advice and legal protection.  Like this script to use on telemarketers:

Make sure you are getting the name of the company they are calling on behalf of, not the name of the telemarketing company they work for.

Is this a telephone solicitation?

Telemarketers will almost always say 'no' to this question the first time. When they do, say "Well, according to Federal Law a solicitation is a telephone call intended to 'encourage the purchase or rental of, or investment in, property, goods, or services,' is that what this is?" Often at this point, they'll start to realize that they may not be in control of the conversation. Sometimes they'll admit that, yes indeed, this is a telephone solicitation, but just as often they won't. Don't worry about it. Mark down their answer and move on.

Will you please state your full name.  First and last name.

They may have been suspicious after question number two, but now there's no doubt: you are not just going to say 'no thanks' and let them move on. Telemarketers seem to get very privacy-conscious when confronted with this question. They'll try to get away with just giving their first name; don't let them, the law says you're entitled to know their full name.

And your phone number.

Telemarketers are required to give you a phone number where you may contact the business they are calling for.

Also the full address of the company you are representing.

This one usually doesn't get answered. Again, we're looking for the address of the company on whose behalf they are calling. Unfortunately, few telemarketers seem to know what the company's address is, even though they are supposed to. Don't be surprised if they transfer you to a supervisor here. I started answering these calls 3 times, I ripped them a new one each time, and told them I had reported them to Do Not Call.gov, and the attorney general of Oregon.  They haven't called for a few days now.  I read on Do Not Call.gov, that is illegal for these kinds of sites to call, and not leave a message if you don't answer.  Let's hit 'em' where it hurts, in the pocket, they get fined if the feds go after them.

The information on this site is most useful, since there are no free reverse look ups anymore. From reading the posts from others, it seems this phone number represents a number of universities from all over the U.S.
I have never applied or filled out forms for any colleges, so I have no idea how they got my number.  I'm guessing it started when Le Cordon Bleu started calling my number about someone I don't even know named Adam.  They called before I was even awake this morning, a Saturday, totally rude.  I haven't answered, when I do, they are going to get an earful of  insanely angry words.  I pay for my cell in minute increments, so I feel like they are trying to stealing my money when they try calling all day. Just added my cell to the do not call list, too bad it takes 31 days.

I filled out some form like 2 years ago and they're now just calling me. But they call multiple times including school hours. I never even asked them to call me.

Sandford Brown College is calling my home everyday. I have told them to remove me off the list

They said they were Sanford Brown Institute, whereas I asked for information from Queens College yesterday and they kept saying they had no Queens College in their system. They wanted my phone number to look up info in their database, and were able to pull up my name with my phone with their computer system. They also hung up on me the first day I answered.

I tried calling this number back and the automated greeting says Thank you for calling Admissions. It forwards to someone and hangs up automatically. This is a very shady group.

i've gotten numerous calls from this number over the past 2 weeks. i have a private number and am on the do not call list. i don't answer numbers i don't know and i 100% positive i have never given out my number to anyone other than family. make the madness stop. they call at all hours of the day and night.

Yea, when the art institute calls all you have to do is tell them it was a mistake or you're not interested and they go away. It's a lot easier to just answer the phone and say "sorry, i'm not interested" than to try dodging calls for a year. I know a lot of people who have done that after they started getting calls in high school. If you hang up on them they just call back.

They called me and I told them they got the wrong number  Would not tell me how they got this number but they called twice.   I think they could not beleive they have the wrong number and had to try again.   They would not tell me the number they dialed.

This is awful..from other posters' information, the art faction of this country has been taken over by stalkers! WHY do you think people no longer want to give out phone numbers-EVER?? My children are interested in art-but if I have to use the phone-stalking program as an elimination tool, I will! This is the second time this has happened. My best guess is that it is The Art Institute-which has tons of locations in many states. There is apparently a REASON it is an INSTITUTE and not a private SCHOOL. Knock it off people! If they weren't up to "no good", My 16 year old wouldn't have just told me that to get into "art honor society" you need COMMUNITY SERVICE. We saw how the nazi's treated artists..nuff said.

These people were calling my mother's unlisted, "do not call" cell phone number asking for me by name.  I'm almost 40 years old and they're calling my mother.  Anyway, I called the number during business hours and got an answer.  I asked what the company name was and the lady told me they worked for various educational institutions, and that I must have requested information at some point.  I told her I was certain neither of us had.  I told her the situation and that I needed us off their call list immediately.  She was very polite in assiting me.  We'll see if they call again!
