585-371-3780 this is the new number they're using (which is a fax number for NY Monroe Co). Called asking for my husband, I asked what the call was pertaining to and the chick gave me a 6 digit reference number and transferred me to the "mediators"... But it rang a few times, beeped, and hung up.

No one would ever call you to alert you they are serving you papers so don't stress it's a scam. I checked with court system and my attorney and that is what they told me.

This happened to me too - 2 calls from an unknown number, saying they were from Essex County Court trying to serve me papers on a complaint.  They said they were going to serve papers to my home (mentioned an old address) or to my work.  I called Essex County Court and of course no complaint in my name.  Also my lawyer said no court worker would ever call you to alert you that you were going to be served papers.  That just doesn't happen.  The second time the person said he was Benjamin McAndrews. I told gave him no information other than that my both my lawyer and the Essex County Court has no record of this, and called him out. Then I said how did you get this number anyhow, this number is not on file anywhere. He hung up.  It's a scam - DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION TO THESE PEOPLE!!!!!!

New number for these guys1 877-894-8309.  United Mediation.  I'm going on year 4 dealing with these people.  Every few months they'll pop back up and try calling me again.  In the 4 years that I have been asking them for an address to send them a letter to they have refused every time and have said prepare to be served we know where you are.  To this day I've never had any server representing this company show up at my home or my job with paperwork.  Hopefully one of these days it will finally stop.

I was at work, and i recieved a call from a "Unknown Number" and had a voicemail. I went to the back to check it and he guy said his name was "Mark Turner" and he was calling form USC, about me being summons on 2-counts of Check Fraud because of a payday i had taken out 2 years ago and supposedly "never paid back". He told me that he would be coming to my place of employment, and if they could not find me there they would be coming to my place of residence. Gave me some "case number" and told me to call back. When i called back, a guy named "Mike Andrews" answered and i told him i recieved a call, and so on. He asked me if my name was Ashleigh and i said yes. THATS ALL THE INFO I GAVE THEM, NEVER GIVE THEM ANYTHING! He told me that i was being sued for 2-counts of check fraud. The amount of the loan was 200.00, he told me that it was 296.00, and that i needed to pay 496.00, i told him i would have my husband call him. My husband calls him, and explains who he is. The guy hangs up, and when my husband tried to call back, it said his party was unavailable. THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS!  i will be calling them again tomorrow, and tell them if this is "legitimate" to send me something in the mail...WHICH I KNOW IT ISNT! DO NOT BELIEVE THESE PEOPLE!!!!

The person who called me was a "John Gray" I called and asked for "John Gray" and the receptionist supposedly gave me his exstension. He was unavailable. I called back and she said 'OH, I thought you wanted "James STandford" or something like that>>> How the hell do you get James Standford out of "JOHN Gray" it sounds nothing alike. They said the same thing, that it was an important legal matter dealing with some fradulent (sp) checks. I havent written any checks in a looooooooooooong time. I dealt with some other scams out of California, and NY a while back. They would hang up or use extremely offensive language (suck my c*** you fat ugly bi***) when I started asking the tough questions, such as where their office was located, the physical address, what the matter was pertaining to, etc etc. Plus all  of them had very strong forgein accents, but were named "JOHN Smith" or other American sounding names. Every time I called I talked to someone else. When I finally called the physical address they gave me, the people there said that they get it all the time, and it is a scam. So, when they called again, I played along acting scared for a while, then I told them I was gonna sue them for fraud, character assination, etc etc. they didnt call back.  I have a feeling "USC" is the same deal. I have all of the phone calls documented, and I will document them again. If there is any way to file charges against these people, I will do it. They are breaking the law and should be punished.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

I received a call from a "Bill Brooks" stating that he was trying to serve me on behalf of USC Mediations for check fraud.  He gave the number of his "legal department" 877-913-2581 ext 367 which I called and spoke with a "Justin Sutton"  who wouldn't give me an address or provide me with written notice of the debt they were trying to collect.  The only information I was able to get from him was that they were based out of California.

I called Sonic Cash who confirmed that I don't have any outstanding debt and verified my last payment.  When I called the "legal department" back and spoke with Justin again, he stated that they don't know what they're talking about and that if I didn't give them $493, I'll be charged with check fraud.  I asked him for Bill's number and I can meet up with Bill to be served and he refused, stating that Bill would find me.

The only information I can find about USC Mediations is postings such as this.  They're not registered with the Secretary of State, I found them on the BBB and they have an F rating along with a warning that they have been unable to locate the business to handle the complaints they've received.  I filed complaints with the BBB, CA Attorney General and the FTC.

This is a fake company.  From my understanding they are not on the BBB... I searched all of thier fake names.  If you ever applied for any payday loan or auto loan online they have been sold your information and use the very little information they have as a scare tatic to make you believe that you have really had some type of claim against you...

FYI if you are being served with any legal documents you will NEVER be notified in advance.  PLUS once a legal filing is executed you cannot stop the process by paying ANYTHING....

These people are SCAMMERS!!! They are trying to get money out of you ... do NOT believe them!

I recieved a voice mail asking for some one that I don't know. They went on about papers that I should bring for a court hearing. I was given a case number of 1350868. The person that left the message was John Gray. He also left a return number but called on a blocked account. The return number was 877-374-4785. I called the number and a woman named Logan Page answered and asked if I had a case number, which I gave her and she said it was about debt collection and that I should get paper work ready. I notified her that I was not the person that was reffered to in the call and wanted to speak with the John Gray character and she said she would transfer the call. I waited for about 4 minutes and she came and said she could not transfer the call. I called back and asked to speak with a manager, Rob Davis came on the line and I told him that I was contacting the BBB and wanted to speak with the person that made the origional call. He refused and told me my phone # had been taken off the list and to stop calling. This is a gang of bumbeling dunces that needs to be reined in.

They are not going to arrest you. They are a collections agency trying to scare you and it's illegal for them to threaten you with arrest. If you don't have any outstanding debts it's a scam trying to threaten you into sending money you don't owe. If they call again, say "I will be home all day tomorrow waiting for the process server to arrive. If he does not arrive, then your call shall be considered extortion and fraud and I will be filing a report with the police and the country court house" and hang up

I was originally called from an "unknown" number, they did leave a call back number of 1-888-435-7109.  I recieved this same message and junk from Doug Danielson, a locator/process server, stating that he was witha  company called USC & Associates said there was several different charges under my name and he had a "reference "number and for me to return the call or hed be there to serve papers with the proper authorities that i would need for court.  When I returned this call, i was then told from a Mr. Davis as well as a Mr. Herrara, that they are a United Mediation Firm.  course this was told only after i repeatedly asked them what kind of company this was.  I was asked to verify my social, my contact number, my address, etc.  I said I'm not verifying anything, I know all about this scam!! i was told"no you dont, I'll note that your being "uncooperative" and have the process server proceed with the serving of papers, I had them put a halt on the serve til we could confirm."  <Hes telling me this.  ya really??  i kept pressuring him to find out exactly what it was about...he said i can tell you everything if you verify and confirm name/social addy etc.  i told him again i wasnt gonna verify or tell him anything.  He said hed go out on a limb  and tell me what it was about in the hopes that maybe it will ring a bell and maybe settle it w/o going to court!!  he told me it was 2 diff charges/ 2 diff amounts from a payday loan company, both the same ,  and items were returned to them either NSF, FROZEN ACCOUNT, OR ACCOUNT CLOSED.  i said hmm really? he said does that ring a bell i said nope. He tried to get me to say whether or not i lived at a certain address or had ever lived there and i said no. he said then thatd hed go ahead then and have the server deliver thecourt papers to me with the proper authorities..since i was being uncooperative. and if its not me then thats that, if it was then i had been served and then he hung up. .   This particular scam ive been receiving variating forms of this for about a year, they call sometimes 2 times a day a few times a week, i return the call tell them they are a scam, ive reported this to bbb as well as atty general etc and so on.. they start cussing me then hang up...stops for about a month or longer, then starts up again, the ones before were always with a thick foreign accent.  but most with american names..go figure ..   I havent yet reported this particular phone call to my local atty general or the BBB yet but I do intend to.

I have been getting the same scam messages for over a year now.  The Doug Danielson persona and the threats of legal action claiming a "bad check".  I have not ever intentionally written anyone a bad check and I haven't used paper checks for anything in well over a year.  What these guys are doing is blatantly flaunting the Fair Debt Collections laws.  You can not threaten legal action and not proceed.  I don't call them back, I don't take their calls.  I record the messages they leave and preserve them in case someone decides to actually do something about them.  They _are_ breaking the law.
