This is a very repugnant collection company! One dirty trick they use is, buying up very old debts that are way past the statutes of limitations for next to nothing on the dollar and posting the debt with a new date on a consumers credit report. I have seen debts as old as 5 years been resurfaced and posted with new dates, as well as over inflated balances on so many consumer's reports. So many consumers lives are being ruined on a daily basis by this very repugnant company. That this company is still has a license to operate is beyond belief!

You can send them a form provided by Consumer Protection BC requiring them to contact you only in writing. If they persist in phoning you you can file a complaint with Consumer Protection BC. This applies only in British Columbia Canada. If they do not comply they are violating sections 115 and 114 of the BC Consumer Protection Act and you can sue them.

Has called numerous times throughout the day. First phone call was at 7:45 a.m. mountain time on Monday. They don't say who they are with, or what they are calling for. They just want to "speak" to me.
They always call from 416-482-7694 but as Jay Wills stated above, I got a message from "Mike Esteva" asking him to call him back at 1-888-442-0446 ext. 61010

They keep calling me saying I owe money to CIBC, a bank I have never had any business dealings with/ They refuse to provide me with any information on the debt unless I verify with them my personal information.
I actually called CIBC and confirmed by 3 different methods that I not only have no outstanding debt, but I have in fact had no account with them.
Obviously this is a scam, just hang up.

I would call telus, if your debt is from them and talk to a manger and explain your situation. They might be able to make a payment plan with you, while stopping the the creditors. I have learned in my life that it is imperative to keep paper work. Do so, becuase years down the road you will be surprised how this might just come up again.

I am currently getting calls from CBV saying I owe Telus...and I do but they are charging me an outrageous amount of interest that escalates every month. They want the entire amount and won't even listen to a payment plan. I am currently unemployed and very ill. I have given them a certain amount for 2 months already and received no receipt or acknowledgement of the payments. What can I do?
knowledgeable 2012-08-02 19:12:17 Unknown
Paying a bill doesn't get it off your credit file. The collection agency has no control over that, it's the law. They legally have to update your credit file to show the bill as paid, but cannot get it removed. Showing it as a paid collection is a true reflection of the account's status as required under the Credit Reporting Act. The only one who can have it removed is the original creditor and even then, they have to justify to the credit bureaus why they want it removed. You can't use paying a bill as leverage for getting it off of your file.

Very simple... Contact BC Consumer Protection Agency (or a government office of the like for the province you're in), and ask them to send you a "request for communication in writing only" form by email. Fill it out, e-mail it and fax it to the collection agency, and they are denied BY LAW to stop phoning you. This is, providing they are a licensed collection agency and not a scam. Not that I would be able to tell the difference from one or the other's practises because they're both so crooked it's stupid. Anyway, send the agency this form, and if the calls don't stop- they are breaking the law, and you can again call the government office to report them. They will take it from there as the agency is now in violation of the law.... Which may happen because, given their grade six educations, they may struggle with reading. Really?? What kind of education do you have to have to be a skip tracer??? Their mindless morons for Pete's sake.

It seems they are in good standing with the BBB however the fact that I cannot pay them through a major bank just seems fishy to me? still investigating whether my debt will be cleared once i pay them the money ..because once ARC called me for similar thing and I paid them. Right before the last payment i could not get any verification from them that this would be cleared off my credit.

I am continually recieving calls from a lady from this CBV collections lady . She claims to be collecting a debt I apparently owe the government from 4 years ago, but she cant tell me what exactly its for I told her to send me a letter & she only has an address from 5 years ago & is calling me by my maiden name. IF it was legit they would have my current adress name & information not to mention IF it was government related they would just garnish my taxes or child tax etc. I believe this is a scam I am calling back to collect more information on this company & report them .

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate your comments. They have been calling me trying to make me pay for the debth that probably does not even exist. They are saying its the last day and I have to transfer the money using Western Union. However, they did not provide any statement or any official papers stating what I owe and to whom. Thanks one more time.

It's a collection agency. I made the mistake of allowing a mentally ill person to use my phone number for contact info when she was applying for a job. Companies take advantage of her, sign her up for health clubs and calling plans, then she of course cannot pay. This collector rudely called, said "Please hold for an important business matter" then put me on hold forever. I hung up, then they called back a short time later. I answered again, then, when I realized they were collecting on behalf of this poor woman, I tried to save them the aggravation of trying to collect from this women who lives below the poverty line, and then they rudely cut ME off. Unreal.

They call and refuse to state what they do or what they want the problem is they want your personal information but acording to police unless you have the information about them that could be people trying to steal you personal information. They say don't give them any personal information unless they are willing to properly identify themselves. What they do and who they represent.
Smith 2011-06-06 21:05:31 Unknown
They are a nightmare to deal with. Best way to fight back is to keep calling them back until the number is removed.
David 2011-06-06 21:05:31 Unknown
Who is calling and why. You don't speak clear enough to really be understood. You must enunciate who you are your phone number and the company you represent
mad 2011-06-06 21:05:31 Unknown
we've been getting calls from this number for the last few months, at different hours during the day. they left an auto message re a name that the call was for. i have this number for over 20 years now and i don't know the name they called for. i think it's a trick to 'collect' personal info from those who do call back and provide some ID to them. my elderly folks have been woken up from their sleep/naps many times, this makes me really mad. i did call them back but when i refused to provide my number, they refused to tell me who they were and why they called. unfortunately, i can't screen nor block this number. there should be regulations set up to stop such nuisance.

My Boyfriend has been getting calls from these people stating that he owes the government money that they are calling on behalf of Revenue Canada. He asked for the persons information and she stated that she cannot tell him anything when he asked to speak with this persons supervisor he was told that they must have a wrong number and hung up. we called the number back and want answers as to why they are calling they stated that they did not know that they will have to email they client and get back to him , we then called Revenue Canada and they told us that the do not hire other companies to collect debt on there behalf they then did a search on his name and we found out that he doesn't owe any money to the government at all. Be careful what information you give these people.

I have spoken with these individuals, who identifyed themselves as Bell Canada employees (based in India) regarding over charges. After having to deal with the same issue EVERY month, I stoped talking. I then started recieving calls 3-4 times a day. But one of the most resent dated(Nov. 14,2009) confirmed to me that these Bell employees are running scams on customers. The call came in at 8:28am, then 9:29am. Oddly enough I called the number back and just got a busy signal. This is not the first time this scam is being run by Bell Canada employees(1998-1999) yet this multi billion dollar corp.is unable to due right by hard working struggling customers that made it a multi billion dollar corp. Can you blame them?We are only poor people. Here to make the rich richer, even if it kills us.

It appears after checking others comments on this website and searching yellowpages, whitepages, and reviewing my own blacklisted numbers that MANY OF THESE COLLECTION AGENCIES ARE FRAUDULENTLY IDENTIFYING THEMSELVES AS CEREBRAL PALSY SPORTS ASSOC., DIABETES SPORTS ASSOC., TO FISH FOR CONSUMER OR DEBTOR INFORMATION!!!! WTF FRAUDSTERS!!!
DIAL *50, TO CALL TRACE THIS TO POLICE AND THEN REPORT THEM TO LOCAL POLICE! AND THEN FILE A www.CRTC.GC.CA, consumer NO CALL LIST COMPLAINT!
