Just got one - it's a scam operating out of Denver. Call sounds like you had already spoken week before but no such call on my Bill. My Credit card is so clean and paid quickly I could buy a boat with it . . .  yet they say they will drop my interest rates AND keep me from making just minimum payments. . .
Uhhhh . . .  WHAT PAYMENTS! Besides I ride at 3.25 above prime - better than THAT - man, maybe I should sign up . . . dumbasses with a phone. Where is the FTC . . . Where is the Attorney General . . .  besides I am betting the message is a ROBO-CALL - which is not legal in MY state.

This is what my voicemail transcript e-mailed me:

Hey guys, It's Bryan Stevenson again and we spoke last week on the phone regarding possibly lower your interest rates and reducing your monthly payments on your credit card. I want to let you know I did find a solution here. The program that we've got can lower those interest rates to as low as 1.5% and possibly cut your monthly payment in half, then said you were only making the minimum payments. This is just be a great opportunity here for you. This will be the last courtesy call, but I will make so please give me a ring today. You can reach me here at 1(888) 442-0881 again that is toll free at 1(888) 442-0881.

Yeah, (1) I don't answer 800 numbers or calls where the prefix is a long distance. (2) No one spoke to me last week about this scam. (3) I use Vonage so every phone call I place or receive is permanently noted including the duration, date and time of the call so it goes back to #2.

My company just got hit by "Brian", the result being that three or four people forward the message onto me because my name is Guy. Obviously a robo call as all the messages were EXACTLY the same.

Received a call from this number from Brian Stevens saying we spoke last week and he was able to find a lower interest rate for my monthly credit card which should help out since I am only able to pay the minimum amount due every month and this would be the last courtsey call.  This came via Odessa, CA.  Nice guy, but I pay my cc in full everymonth. I agree, obvious scam

I just got this call also, and it was a word for word message as already listed below. Brian Stevens...blah blah blah...I don't even have a credit card. I use prepaid cards. The funny thing is, I got this call on my phone at my desk, that is in no way listed to me......and I work for a Credit Card company as a payroll specialist for the collections department. LOL!!! This call is illegal in so many ways, it has at least 6 FDCPA (Fair Debt Collections Practices Act) violations in it. LOL, reporting it to the BBB, FCC, and Local authorites.

A male caller on my voice mail today at 1:58pm said, "Uhhhh, this will be the last courtesy call that I will make .... You can reach me here at 1-888-442-0881, again, that is toll free ...."  I checked out the 888 number which originated in Missouri.  I didn't return the call.  A minute before receiving the voice mail I ignored an unknown caller from 573-373-2197 in Missouri.  The voice mail was from this same 573 number.  I don't answer calls from unknown callers.  For the first time since I've been ignoring these unknown caller calls, I got a voice message from this 573 number.

The phone number is listed under a 43 y/o John A. Matich in Laddonia, MO 63352
It is a landline that belongs to SPECTRA COMMUNICATIONS GROUP, LLC.

There are too many of these scam artists operating.  I not only pay for answering the received call, but also would pay to call thee 888 number on my cell phone.  I wish that the FCC, and maybe the FBI, would crack down on these annoying and possibly dangerous callers.

This is a sales call.

They try to make it sound like (1) you called them first and (2) it's not a pre-recorded robo-call. The recording even goes so far as to include intentional "Uh..."s and "um"s so you think it's a real dude when really it's a mass-blast telemarketing robo-call. They assume you have outstanding credit card debt and you're only making the minimum payments

If you got this message, it is safe to ignore it. It's not a company you're doing business with and they really are showing how desperate they are preying on desperate people in desperate situations using manipulative tactics and using dodgy "consolidation" techniques that could ruin your credit.

I am a professional in my mid 30's and I have no credit card debt.  I have no credit card.  I never have had a credit card, I don't believe in them.  I have never had a debt, and I never will.  This is how I believe in living:  If I can't pay for it-I can't afford it; if I can't afford it-I don't buy it.  (This is really how it works for everyone anyway...when people buy things they can't afford, they're not really buying it, and they don't own it-the loaner buys and owns it.)

This is the lifestyle I chose for myself long ago, and because of this I have no credit.  I don't have BAD credit, mind you...I have NO credit.  (Ironically, in our culture, you are held with suspicion if you have never had a debt.  How f**ked up is that?  The phone corporations always hassle me when I'm getting a plan because of this:  "He has no debt/credit???!!!???!!!  *duh*  He must be a freak of some sort...don't trust him!!!".)

Anyway, with all this said, I found it very amusing to get a call from this number.  They told me we talked last week about my debt.  (wtf???)  Considering the brief history I just explained about myself, all I can say is:  SCAM!!!!!!!

Just got this call from a 573 area code, my voice mail only caught the last part (this will be the last courtesy call I make you can reach me at 888-442-0881) so it's either a recording or someone impatient enough to not wait for the tone.

Funny thing is, they picked the wrong person to scam for credit, as I don't currently have a credit card in my name... if I do I have more things to be worried about than this scam of a phonecall!

The only reason I am concerned over this message is because it sounded like he said my fathers name (which is who this phone is registered under due to employee discounts)

Obviously a total scam... funny thing is, they called my home phone and cell phone at the same time! Bizarre. After that, they sent a text message to my cell!! I have limited texts in my plan, so that needs to stop really soon...

I just wonder how they get a cell number. Is there a way to find out who sells this info? This is getting ridiculous.

Yep, obviously a scam.  The same guy leaves a voicemail stating that we'd talked last week about lowerin interest rates on my loans.  Yeah, I've never talked to the guy a day in my life..  To quote the entire message, "Hey Guy.. This is Brian Stevens here again. Hey, we uh spoke last week on the phone, uh, regarding possibly lowering your interest rates and, uh, reducing your monthly payments on your, uh, credit cards. Uh, I wanted to let you you know I did, uh, find a solution here. Umm, the program that we've got-uh, can lower those interest rates to as low as 1.5% and possibly cut your monthly payments in half. Umm, and since you were only making the minium payments, this'd just be a great opportunity here for ya...Umm, this will be the last courtesy call that I will make, so , uh, please give me a ring today. Uh, you can reach me here at 1-888-442-0881. Again, that is toll-free at 1-888-442-0881."

Looks like this guy is making the rounds!  I'm in Dallas

JUst got this call on my cell phone. I chose to call back on the 800 number. "Omar" answered and said Brian is unavailable. I asked him to remove my number from his list and give me the name of his company. All he would say is " We are a debt relief company", when I pressed for the name of the comapnay, he hung up.

It has to be a scam. They called on my Google phone number. That number is never published and it makes all my phones ring (You can program a google number to do that) I'm glad he called that number because with a Google phone number you can block any call for any number and have a recording that sounds like it is not a working number.

I got a voicemail from "Brian Stevens" who left a call back number of 888-442-0881.  The caller ID was (636) 225-4102, some unlisted number in Fenton MO.  He said we spoke last week about lowering interest rates on my (nonexistant) credit card.  I don't have a credit card.  I *67'd both numbers and the (636) number didn't exist and the 888 number had a message saying they were closed, but did not even identify the name of the company, although the voice on the voicemail sure sounded a lot like "Brian Stevens".

These "people" called my 13 year-old's cell while he was at school.  He came home thinking that we were in serious financial trouble.  He worried about it all day.  He has seen so many of his friend's families who have had trouble.  I explained that we have no credit card trouble and that all of our bills are paid on time.  I told him that it was a scam and that he needs to ignore calls from phone numbers he does not recognize.  I wish that this crap would stop.

Voice mail started like it was halfway through, and gave the impression that we had a conversation before: "...and I think I found a solution for you here...I can lower your interest rates to 1.5%, cutting your montly payment in half, and since you're making the minimum monthly payments I think this would be a great opportunity for you, blah blah blah." He said it would be the last courtesy call he would make.

I received a call earlier today from 888-442-0881.  I didn't answer and they left a message.  The beginning of the voicemail was cut off and began with, "I found another program that can help you get an interest rate as low as 1.5%", cutting my monthly payment in half since I'm "only making the minimum monthly payment". I too thought he might be calling about my student loans since I had spoke with someone last week about consolidation.

I'm wondering what he would have said had I answered.
