The person calling identified themselves as calling from ATT.  I called them back and "Jamie" answered.  I ask if this number was ATT.  She replied that they were hired by ATT. I DON"T THINK SO!

This number called and "Oscar" stated our AT&T long distance service plan had ended and they were contacting us. I said ok.  He then stated how we would be saved money by the new plan but all the minimums were higher than we ever use.  He said these were the only choices and we had to pick one or our long distance rates would go way up.  I said I would call back.

I called AT&T long distance and they say that this company get people to sign up and then puts it on the AT&T bill.  Any ok or yes in the conversation is recorded by them as your agreement to the service.

Call your service provider immediately and lock your account if this happens to you

I called AT&T and they said this is a legit company hired by AT&T to update accounts and renew contracts and all calls are recorded per AT&T's request. When I called this number and asked, one of the reps also stated that they are contracted by Verizon as well.

"Fred Isaac" claiming to be FROM VERIZON called today, "noticing" that we had not yet paid our Verizon bill from last month, and was there a problem? We explained that there had been sudden illness in the household that resulted in this out-of-character lapse. We had received a call approx. 3 weeks earlier, someone from an un-remembered company, claiming that Verizon was about to raise our rates enormously (our Verizon contract runs till March) AND that we would begin receiving two bills per month, right away, and didn't we want to switch to their carrier?? We DID NOT commit, but said we'd investigate, as we were thinking of leaving Verizon anyway, for cost reasons. We got slammed effective 9/20/09! Sure enough, two bills DID arrive, one legit Verizon, and one for all our long distance calls, from this slamming USBI company, with THEM getting the early (Verizon!) cancel-the-contract fee (Extra gall there!) when we did NOT cancel.  Thank goodness we got sick and didn't pay either bill.

Today this Fred Isaac was so sympathetc and gave us another 888# to call, and press 2 on, so we could pay our (illegitimate USBI!) bill withouy late charges. Nice Fred. The number was 888-244-4440. I haven't looked that up yet, but it's all part of this elaborate scheme, layer upon layer.  Verizon has just taken me through the 35 minute procedure to freeze our account, undo these crap charges and have the investigation team do their thing. This is awful. I think that if we receive any call from ANYONE claiming to be with ANY phone/internet provider company, just say "give me your number, and I will call you back once I confirm that you really are with XYZ company". And DO IT.
Thank goodness for this site and others like it, so we can try to help each other.

Jamie claimed to be calling from verizon and she was going to be so kind as to renew my account in order to "lock in" my rate claiming that there was to be a substaintial increase.  I so eloquently responded that I had been through this "bu***hit" before in the past, that I did not believe that she was from Verizon and requested that she never call my number again.  Two minutes later, Tony an alleged manager of the, get this, "Retention Department" called to imform me that my lines will be getting a substanial increase if I don't go ahead and lock in the renewal.  I repeated my request to him and hung up. I then called the number back from my caller ID and Jamie answered "Jamie speaking".  Now we all know that when we call Verizon, that is the normal response we get, right!!

Here is the Verizon website that explains that they hire companies like One Source Telecom to take care of winback and retention accounts.

https://www22.verizon.com/onesourcesystem/unp ... dvzpartner.aspx

you can search for One Source and it is there!
We do not slam and have been in business for more than 15 years with an excellent track record for customer service.
I encourage anyone who questions our company to do their own research, there are more than 75 companies that do this for verizon.

9:58 AM on10/6/09  Fred Isaac claiming to be from Verizon, noticing ' that we had not yet paid our bill for last month, and oh so concerned about us -- was there a problem? My mother explained that there had been a sudden illness that resulted in the out-of-character lapse. We had had an odd call 3 weeks earlier, someone claiming that Verizon was about to raise our rates enormously and start sending two bills per month, and didn't we want to switch carriers? We did NOT commit, but said we'd investigate, were thinking about leaving Verizon for cost reasons anyway. Sure enough, two bills came, one legit Verizon and one these USBI slammers! thank goodness we both got sick and didn't pay either bill! Today this Fred Isaac was so sympathetic and gave us another 888# to call and press "2" to help us pay our bill (Our illegitimate, slammed bill!) The number he provided was 888-244-4440. I haven't looked that up yet, but it's all part of the same elaborate slamming. These folks are slick.  I am on the phone with Verizon Enterpirise Solutions (this is our home business) and they are fixing this and reporting these criminals, they have a whole USBI slamming investigation team. UGH! I think if someone "from" ANY phone company calls you, immediately say "give me your number and I will call you back after verifying that it's a legit number for XYZ company" and DO IT. I'm glad for this site, and other similar ones, so we can try to help and protect each other. Mandy,in Central PA.

I called AT&T to verify that this company was fraudulent and was told they are hired and contracted by AT&T to renew and update accounts. All services stay with AT&T.

This a business solutions provider company contracted by Verizon and AT&T to renew contracts and update accounts. Everything is legit and can be proven. This is in no way a scam. Our company is hired to handle these accounts under contract. All calls are recorded for Verizon and AT&T. Paperwork can be faxed or emailed for proof.

its called slamming.  Even if you say no - they change your long distance carrier anyway,  ITS ALSO ILLEGAL

16 Ways You Can be Phone Scammed

18 Nov 2008

"Slamming": Slamming occurs when customers have their telephone service switched to a new carrier without their permission. You may receive a call from a telemarketer asking you to switch your long distance provider. Although you say you are not interested in switching, your long distance provider is changed anyway.

How lame. They call me and I immediately hear "all of our representatives are busy right now, please wait for the next representative". This repeated every 4 secs until my msg machine's 90 sec space for a new msg was full. Does this sales ploy really work for them? I don't pick up the phone when I see "800 service" or "unknown".

Event Reminder
I was told that they are a company hired by verizon to renew contracts. I was unaware I even had a contract but sure enough about a month and a half after these guys called my bill went up 40 bucks!! I called directly in to Verizon and was told that my contract was expired and thats why my rates went up, I was then told by Paula at Verizon that someone should have contacted me from one of their companies to offer me a renewal. I dont know if these guys are legit or not but Verizon said that they do have companies that do this stuff.

Our business received a call from a Lance claiming to be from Verizon at 1-888-449-7566.  When asked if there is a problem he said yes, your contract is expiring.  Contract?

I believe they are trying to present themselves a Verizon to lift accounts.
